In QC, a new premium KBBQ spot opens
Sogeum by Soban is everything you love about Korean BBQ and more. Enter the place and the stylish interiors will immediately tell you you're in for something a little more sophisticated than your usual KBBQ spot experience. The restaurant has a private room that can seat up to 12 guests in case your party has a lot of chika and tsaa to go with your Korean food. And then there's all the premium meats Sogeuum by Soban has to offer. There's the Philippines' first-of-its-kind Mul Galbi, a hearty stew with US beef short ribs as the star. Together with flat glass noodles, rice cakes, and 11 types of vegetables, it's simmered in a collagen-rich broth made from bone marrow and boiled for over six hours making the Mul Galbi a must-order to be shared by the table. The Bo Ssam meanwhile is a Korean classic. The slow-simmered pork is tender, perfectly seasoned, and with just the right amount of fat to make it truly satisying. Wrap a slice in any of the array of greens it's served with, top it with kimchi, and use the house-made fermented baby shrimp dipping sauce, and you've got a total winner. The USDA High Choice Saeng Galbisal, the six distinct flavors of the Pork Samgyupsal, or the Dak Ganjeong are excellent choices, in case you don't want to think too much. But please don't miss out on the super hearty Rose Tteokbokki — rice cakes with a creamy twist and the right amount of kick. The savory seafood pancakes make for good starters, as the super addictive and easy-to-love crispy fried chicken glazed in a sweet, caramelized sauce. Sogeum means salt in Korean and at the newly opened restaurant, each table gets the signature trio of salts — thousand-day aged sea salt, the green tea salt, and Himalayan pink salt — signaling a lovely little lift to your usual Korean BBQ experience. The best part is how Sogeum's courteous and knowledgeable waitstaff will do the grilling for you, tying everything together for a truly premium experience. Sogeum by Soban is the latest concept from The Happyfoods Group of Restaurants, a Filipino-owned company behind some of the country's beloved Korean restaurants including Sariwon Korean Barbecue, Soban K-Town Grill, Samsam Chicken Korean Cafe + Kitchen, and Sibyulee Unlimited Korean BBQ. 2/F Opus Mall, Bridgetowne Destination Estate, Opus, Bridgetowne Blvd corner C-5, Quezon City. 0927 069 2957 — LA, GMA Integrated News

Mika Salamanca's viral "Sino Nga Ba Siya" clip has now reached Justin of SB19! On TikTok, the P-pop idol delivered a hilarious twist on the Kapuso star's viral video. After a dramatic walk, he comically collapsed onto the pavement, flawlessly lip-syncing to Mika's now-iconic audio, much to the delight of fans. "Real acting," he wrote in the caption. Aside from Justin, stars who have joined the "Sino Nga Ba Siya" trend were Mika's fellow "Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition" housemates Will Ashley, Charlie Fleming, Klarisse de Guzman, Brent Manalo, and Esnyr. Lola Amour says they don't let pressure of creating another hit dictate the music they make
Lola Amour has had a roster of hit songs throughout their career, like 'Fallen,' 'Dahan Dahan,' 'Pwede Ba,' and of course, 'Raining in Manila.' 'Raining in Manila' has been a massive hit since it came out in 2023, with the likes of National Artist Ricky Lee and K-Pop band Enhypen becoming fans of the song. Michael V. even made a spoof of the song titled 'Waiting Here sa Pila.' The song gave Lola Amour a larger fanbase in the Philippines and abroad, and it is safe to say that it still gets played today. But despite producing a megahit, Lola Amour has their feet planted on the ground, and is not letting any pressure get to them to release another one. In an interview with GMA News Online, vocalist Pio Dumayas said that there is always pressure to an extent when it comes to creating and releasing songs, 'but the point is, we don't let that pressure dictate what kind of music we make.' 'I don't want to put anyone down who's chasing hits, but I don't think that's something that works for us, because what has been working for Lola Amour for the longest time is to make whatever music we want to and then hope someone likes it,' he said. Pio added, 'You can see it from our discography na magkaiba talaga lahat ng kanta namin and walang nagbago. I guess it's just the way 'yung taste namin, the way we write music, but the why of why we make the music is it's always been the same.' Trumpet player Angelo Mesina said that they are not the type to follow trends with each release. 'Even way back then, we made songs to cater to what we felt was right for the song. We made the music to encapsulate what the lyricist made, what we felt during at that time, didn't necessarily dictate to what genre it could be.' Keyboardist David Yuhico said it best: 'As someone wise once said, it's about the art and not the charts.' Lola Amour is set to release their sophomore album 'Love on Loop' on August 15. This year, Lola Amour released the singles 'Maria,' 'Misbehave,' 'Dance with My Mistakes,' and 'The Moment.' Lola Amour released their self-titled debut album in April 2024, and celebrated with a grand album launch at the Circuit Makati Event Grounds, a sold-out show at Draft Punk in Cebu, and an album tour. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
