‘A mere apology is not enough': PAS sec-gen admits fault, says party will accept firm action over flawed Jalur Gemilang
KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — PAS is facing mounting criticism for offering nothing more than a cursory apology after a promotional poster for its Himpunan Teguh Memimpin Terengganu (TMT 1.0) 2025 event featured an inaccurate depiction of the Jalur Gemilang.
While the party has since corrected the poster and taken internal disciplinary action, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan conceded that such a serious oversight demands more than just a perfunctory apology.
'A mere apology should not be accepted as a standard solution for such errors without firmer measures being taken,' he said in a statement today.He added that PAS supports transparent, fair, and firm action by the authorities to prevent similar instances of insensitivity or negligence.'As citizens, PAS believes that everyone must uphold the highest level of respect and pride for national symbols at all times, as a reflection of our national identity and patriotism,' he said.The controversial poster, circulated last week ahead of a gathering in Terengganu, depicted the national flag with only an 11-pointed star and 12 stripes instead of the correct 14 each.

Immigration Department denies issuing viral statement on Qurban meat distribution
KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has denied issuing any statement regarding guidelines for the distribution of 'Qurban' (sacrificial) meat at mosques in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration. JIM Deputy Director-General (Management) Ismail Mokhtar said the department was aware of the statement, dated June 5, 2025, that had gone viral. 'For the record, the statement is false and has never been issued by JIM,' he said in a statement here today. He also advised the public to always refer to the department's official channels for accurate and authentic information. 'JIM takes the dissemination of false information seriously, especially when it can lead to public confusion. Any unauthorised use of the department's official emblem and name is an offence and may be subject to legal action,' he added. The fake statement, dated June 5, 2025, that went viral, used the name of Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban. Among the things claimed in the statement was that only foreign nationals with valid work permits and visas, or those with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards, were allowed to receive Qurban meat at mosques. (File pic) PETALING JAYA : The human resources ministry has dismissed claims that the government blocked the participation of labour representatives to the now-concluded 2025 International Labour Conference (ILC). The ministry said the non-representation of workers at the conference held in Geneva was caused by the absence of legitimate leadership in the Malaysian Trade Unions Congress (MTUC), the country's largest trade union umbrella organisation. 'In February, the Court of Appeal ordered MTUC to conduct a re-election of its leadership within 90 days under the watch of a joint special committee,' it said in a statement today. 'This election was later postponed to August, leaving MTUC without a legitimate leadership to represent workers in any official platform.' The ministry stressed that the selection of the Malaysian delegation to the ILC was made transparently under the guidelines of the International Labour Organization, after seeking advice from the Attorney-General's Chambers. It also urged MTUC to expedite its re-election to restore stability to the trade union movement and ensure Malaysia's full participation in the ILC next year. On June 4, Malaysiakini reported that the joint special committee's chairman, J Solomon, denied knowledge of needing to hold an election within three months of the committee's formation. He had earlier criticised the government for failing to register labour delegates for the ILC.
