The New York Giants went into the 2025 NFL draft with a major decision to make. Would they go with a quarterback or a pass rusher with the No. 3 overall pick?
Abdul Carter was the pick at No. 3 overall. They simply could not pass on the elite skill set and potential that he brought to the field. However, they did not give up on their dream of landing a potential franchise quarterback as well.
Later in the first round at pick No. 25, Joe Schoen made the aggressive move to trade back into the first round.

Jaxson Dart was the player that head coach Brian Daboll wanted, and he got his wish.

Dart had a great interview process before the draft with New York. He impressed the Giants' coaching staff and front office. That led to the team feeling comfortable enough with him to make an aggressive trade to get him.
Looking ahead to the 2025 NFL season, Russell Wilson is expected to be New York's starting quarterback to begin the year. One former NFL quarterback doesn't necessarily think that is locked in at this point in time.
During an appearance on the "Up & Adams" show, Chris Simms spoke out with a very strong take about Dart. He thinks the young signal caller could find his way onto the field early on in his rookie year.
"Gosh, I would not be shocked if it started off right away. I wouldn't be shocked," he said. "I don't expect the Giants to be a super team here, right? I'm not picking the Giants to go to the playoffs. The amount of money they're paying Russell Wilson does not guarantee him the starting quarterback job."

Simms continued on, revealing more about what it would take for Dart to win the starting job.
"Those are things I look at to go, if Jaxson Dart is phenomenal through training camp and OTAs and has a really good preseason, and Russell Wilson's just okay and doesn't look all that sharp, I don't think they'll be scared to start Jaxson Dart here," Simms said.
During the 2024 college football season with the Ole Miss Rebels, Dart completed 69.3 percent of his pass attempts for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also showed off his athleticism to the tune of 495 yards and three more touchdowns on the ground.
Only time will tell, but Dart has a chance to get on the field quickly. The Giants believe in him being the long-term face of the franchise and he might be able to prove them right sooner rather than later.

Bears dubbed likely worst-to-first team in 2025

The Chicago Bears have been one of the biggest offseason winners as they've improved their team across the board, starting with the hiring of Ben Johnson as head coach. The Bears already have a young, rising star in quarterback Caleb Williams, and they've prioritized his development with the addition of Johnson, as well as the overhauling of the entire interior offensive line and some new weapons added to the mix. Chicago also added defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo, along with a potential impact draft class. Advertisement But the question remains: Is this finally the year where the NFL's offseason champions finally see the product translate on the field during the regular season? ESPN's Aaron Schatz ranked the NFL's most likely worst-to-first teams for the 2025 season. And not only did the Bears make the list, but they were second only to the San Francisco 49ers. The Bears finished 22nd in FPI last season, but they're seen as above-average entering the 2025 season. That's because Caleb Williams should improve in his second year under center, and the Bears added a lot of talent on the offensive line to give him better protection. There's also a lot of optimism about new coach Ben Johnson, but it's important to remember that teams with new coaches and coordinators tend to take a small step back in the first season. We may not notice this because new coaching staffs are usually brought in after particularly bad seasons, making a slight improvement a simple regression toward the mean. The biggest issue holding the Bears back this season is that they have the second-hardest schedule in the NFL, per my DVOA rankings (more on the hardest schedule later). All three other NFC North teams (Vikings, Lions and Packers) made the postseason in 2024, and only Minnesota is expected to decline in 2025. We've seen this film before. The Bears have an impactful offseason with high-flying expectations only the crap the bed when the season begins. But this year feels different with Johnson's arrival, and his impact is already being felt by the players inside the locker room. Sure, the Bears have the second-most difficult schedule in the NFL. Yes, they play in a tough NFC North division. But they also have the leader and the roster talent to make waves. And if Johnson can unlock Williams early in Year 1, the sky's the limit. Seth Rollins on why Caleb Williams will have better Year 2 than Jayden Daniels

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will be compared for the duration of their NFL careers. The first and second overall picks, respectively, have all of the talent and potential to thrive and be the face of the league for the long term. But while Daniels had an easy-going rookie season -- en route to Offensive Rookie of the Year honors -- Williams dealt with adversity and still faces plenty of criticism after just one year. Advertisement During a recent appearance on the "Up & Adams" show, WWE superstar (and noted Bears fan) Seth Rollins explained why he believes Williams will have a better 2025 season than Daniels. "I think Caleb Williams is going to have a better year," Rollins said. "I think last year was an aberration. I think you're going to see a little bit of a sophomore slump. I think people are going to be able to gameplan for (Jayden) better. ... I just think the second year is going to be more difficult. You look at C.J. had a great year, but compared to the rookie year, not quite as good. I think you're going to look at it and see a situation like that whereas expectations are going to be a little bit lower for Caleb, and I think he's going to be able to exceed those. Plus, he's playing in a system with Ben Johnson that's going to be curated better to him than what he was doing with Shane Waldron." While it's easy to deem Rollins a "superfan" defending "his" quarterback, he brings up a good point. A sophomore slump could potentially be in play for Daniels, who had a lights-out rookie season. Also, we haven't even glimpsed Williams' ceiling after his chaotic rookie season that featured incompetent coaching. Now with Ben Johnson in place, we should get a taste of what Williams can really bring to the field. There's no reason Williams and Daniels can't both be great -- and we could very well be witnessing the beginning of that -- but people love to compare and declare who's better. That's a question that wouldn't even be answered for several years. But with both Williams and Daniels in the NFC, they'll be seeing a lot of each other throughout their careers -- especially if their respective teams become perennial playoff teams. Advertisement Williams and Daniels will square off again for the second time in as many seasons when the Commanders host the Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 6. While Williams nearly won the first match -- before Tyrique Stevenson's blunder on a Hail Mary -- he'll have a chance to redeem himself and even the series with Daniels on Oct. 13. Colts announce Jim Irsay succession plan for late owner's three daughters

The Colts have three new owners. The NFL franchise announced the official transition of ownership to the late Jim Irsay's three daughters on Monday. The triumvirate of Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson will all have leadership roles for the team, which continued the Irsay family's 50-plus year ownership. The Colts Isray-Gordon, 44, will assume the mantle of CEO and principal owner, while Foyt will act as executive vice president and Jackson will serve as chief brand officer and president of the Colts Foundation. 'When you talk football with her, she gets it,' coach Shane Steichen said of Irsay-Gordon, per the Indy Star. 'She goes over the defensive stuff, the offensive stuff, she's been involved since I've been here. From day one, very hands-on, and she's been tremendous. I think she's going to do a phenomenal job.' Advertisement All three have been with the team for a while: Foyt joined the Colts in 2007, Isray-Gordon in 2008, and Jackson in 2010. They previously served as Colts vice chair/owner since 2012, with their new roles 'pursuant to longstanding plans set forth by Jim Irsay,' per the team. 'Being around Carlie and Kalen so much, the passion they have for this town, this city and the generosity, doing everything they can to help those players and this team be successful, is awesome,' Steichen said. Twelve years later, Robert Irsay decided to relocate the franchise to its current home in Indianapolis. Jim Irsay took control of the franchise in 1997 after his father's passing, with the team winning 10 division championships, two AFC Championships, and its fourth Super Bowl in 2007.
