11 Summer Denim Trends to Shop for 2025
Whether you're trying to go for a standout bottom and top combo, you're trying to make it allll about the top, or you're letting your shorts speak for themselves, there's no shortage of ways to play around with your look this season.
Here, I rounded up 11 trends that have been popping up on my IG feed... though some of these pop up every summer, which proves that they've moved past the trend cycle and cemented themselves as certified classics. From tried-and-true straight-leg and light-wash styles to the ever-divisive jorts and low-rise designs, I guarantee there's a trend or two here you can vibe with. Keep scrolling below for all the inspo.
A white tank and lighter jeans will never do you wrong in the hot temps. Bonus points if your pants are high rise and extra baggy in the legs to catch the breeze.
Super detailed white tops that have a vintage look to them really stand out against darker denim. Features like lace trim and ties make it dainty, and you can contrast it with more edgy accessories like a baseball cap and chunky jewelry.
Jeans and loafers are always a great pair, especially when the jeans are a great-fitting straight-leg style. For summer nights that get a bit chilly, throw them on with a knit or layer a tank under a sweater like Emma Chamberlain here.
A structured top with medium-wash jeans and pretty flats is a surefire way to turn heads this summer. If you're looking for a summer date-night look that seems like you tried without being too dressed up, this is a definite win.
Channel a Y2K-inspired ensemble with a cropped tube top and shorts. You can pare it down with minimal accessories or pile on beaded jewelry for that "just-got-back-from-summer-camp" kind of look.
How low can you go? Though not everyone is into these dad-like jorts, there's no doubt that they're eye-catching. The exaggerated silhouette looks best with a more fitted top and fun accessories.
If you're near the ocean this summer, it can be quite breezy. Looser jeans paired with lightweight knits in a summery hue will keep you a tad warmer while still looking v cool.
The sneakers this year have gotten only gotten slimmer. Low-profile shoes like the Adidas Taekwondos and Puma Speedcats have been making waves and are only gaining popularity this summer. Wear yours with loose-fitting jeans to contrast the shapes and make your shoes the focal point.
Okay, yes a long-sleeve shirt might seem absurd in summer temperatures, but there are chambray styles that have a thinner fabric and you can replicate this look with a short-sleeve or sleeveless denim top. For a night out on the town when the air cools down, this is a statement look with a pair of comfy black heels.
Go sports! Jersey-inspired tops have been gaining steam and they look even better with low-rise jeans to counterbalance the oversized top. Add a belly chain and/or wide belt to give it a summer spin.
Why not wear your bikini as a top? Whether you're heading to the beach or not, layering a bikini under shorts is a combo I've seen time and time again these past couple of months. Add a floral hair clip and a straw bag to keep the effortless vacation vibes going.
I'm Cosmopolitan's Associate Fashion Editor and write about any and all trends, major celeb fashion moments, and why wide-leg jeans are basically the best. I originally moved to New York City to audition for RENT, only to find out that the play closed 10 years ago.

‘ReAnimator' Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary With a Re-Release and Glowing Green Merch
Somehow it's been 40 years since Stuart Gordon's H.G. Lovecraft-inspired Re-Animator hit theaters, boasting an instant-classic performance by Jeffrey Combs as Dr. Herbert West, Miskatonic University's most unhinged medical student turned mad scientist. There's splatter, there's gore, there's body horror, and there's the most distressing severed head scene in the history of cinema. To mark the monumental anniversary of one of the most beloved cult classics ever, Re-Animator is returning to theaters, with a bonus. Presented by the American Genre Film Archive and Mutant, these special screenings will showcase the Ignite Film and Eagle Rock Pictures' 4K restoration of Gordon's film, ensuring that every gross moment and Combs facial expression will look better than it ever has before. And even fans who are like, 'I've seen it already 50 times' (you know who you are) will want to take note, because attending a screening will be the only way to get your mitts on Mutant's limited-edition screenprinted poster by Phantom City Creative—or Rucking Fotton's glow-in-the-dark commemorative t-shirt. ‘Embarrassed and insecure' Gen Z hates this millennial fashion staple: ‘It's body dysmorphia'
It's Z fitness fashion faux pas of the day. After reigning as choice activewear for more than 20-something years, 20-somethings online have officially declared workout leggings 'dead.' RIP to the grip. Advertisement Rather than breaking a sweat in the skintight togs, gym rat Gen Zers now prefer loose-fitting, baggy sweatpants or shorts while exercising, according to a recent report by Edited, a retail analysis group. 4 Gen Z gym buffs are ditching fitted leggings for baggy, loose-fitting sweats and shorts. BullRun – But the youngsters' sudden aversion to leggings — a millennial fashion fav — is less about style, and more about their self-image issues. Advertisement 'I'm so embarrassed and insecure about wearing leggings,' confessed a body-conscious belle in a trending clip. 'I hate how they fit me, how they're so tight on me and you can see, like, the structure of my legs.' 4 Online, young women claim that their hate for leggings in rooted in body-image issues. opolja – Those groans were echoed by a sea of Gen Zs who agreed, commenting, 'Leggings are so uncomfortable,' 'I f- -king hate leggings,' and 'It's body dysmorphia.' And their beef with the bottoms isn't just idle internet chatter — it's evident in sales and web searches, too. Advertisement Researchers for Edited found that consumer interest in leggings has plummeted from 46.9% to 38.7% since 2022. Due to the drop in demand, top athletic brands such as Nike and adidas have 'scaled back leggings investment' this year. (Lululemon fans can breathe easy as the Canadian imprint is still investing in the snug head-turners, per the findings). Athleisure lovers, namely fashionistas under age 27, are instead reaching for billowing, 'boxy' garb, according to Pinterest data featured in the study. 4 New data reveals that young adults are buying 'boxy,' oversized workout wear for comfort. pressmaster – Advertisement Investigators noted that, '58% of searches are from the 18 to 24 year-old demographic with popular pins showing oversized sweatpants and boxy T-shirts.' The experts attribute the rising fondness for lightweight, looser-fitting pants to Gen Z's preference for comfort over compression, as well as the influence of baggy clothes icons Billie Eilish and Zendaya. But team Z's loathing of leggings is nothing new. 4 Tastemakers like Billie Eilish and Zendaya have been hailed de facto leaders in the loose-fit over leggings charge. Ulia Koltyrina – The whiney whippersnappers have attempted to 'cancel' the Y2K-wardrobe staple for years, deeming them 'cringe' and 'cheugy' in viral vids. They've tried exalting yoga pants or 'flared leggings' to the original look's former glory. But, thus far, no bottoms have truly unseated the tried-and-true legging. But now, some Gen Zs are hoping workout shorts will finally give the clinging gear a run for their money. Advertisement 'As a gym girlie, one thing about me is, I'm a shorts girlie until the end of time,' vowed Danica, a TikTok fit-influencer. 'B—ch, I promise you, once you put on a good pair of shorts, you are never going to touch your leggings again.' Em, a dietician and trainer, separately voiced similar sentiments, saying, 'I feel so cute, sexy, hot, confident when I wear shorts to the gym.' 'But leggings, I hate.'
