IND vs ENG 3rd Test: 'He needs to...' - Anil Kumble claims only one player can help India win the Lord's Test
India and England will take to the pitch at Lord's with a simple goal in mind. The hosts need to take six more wickets, while the visitors need 135 more runs to win. With Day 5 of the 3rd Test set to commence, India need their batters to deliver.
While India managed to end England's second innings impressively at 192, their batters also faced a roadblock.
Ben Stokes
' side's relentless attack with the ball saw India lose Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck, after which main man Shubman Gill and Karun Nair also departed cheaply. Nightwatchman Akash Deep lost his wicket to captain Ben Stokes, leaving KL Rahul at the crease.

Ahead of play on Day 5, former India star and captain
Anil Kumble
singled out a player who can steer India's hopes and lead them to victory.
'KL Rahul is going to be the main man (for India). If India are to go past this total tomorrow, he needs to be there till the end — not just give India a good start,' Kumble said on JioHotstar. 'This is going to be a very important knock. If India have to cross the line, KL Rahul will have to play a major role,' said the veteran.
Washington Sundar press conference: On Gautam Gambhir's support, last over drama, winning at Lord's
With Rahul at 33 from 47 balls and Rishabh Pant coming in, the partnership between the two will also play a huge role in whether India will gain the advantage heading into the penultimate Test.
Analysing the potential partnership, Kumble said, 'India had a great chance. They did really well to restrict England to 192 and then got to 41 for 1. I thought Yashasvi Jaiswal played a very poor shot early in his innings, but Karun Nair and KL Rahul batted well to get to that 41.
Then once Karun got out and Shubman Gill followed, it's now slightly tilted back in England's favour. India will need a massive partnership from KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant tomorrow.'
The veteran also ruled out the possibility of a draw, asserting that either India or England will prevail.
With the series balanced at 1-1 and the stakes higher than ever, Monday's action promises a fiery encounter. Ahead of the game, it was announced that Mohammed Siraj was fined 15% of his match fee and handed a demerit point for his aggressive celebration and making physical contact with Ben Duckett. Duckett, too, taunted Gill when he came on to bat, saying that scoring 600 is 'enough' for the captain in this series. Gill departed for just 6 from 9 balls — his lowest score yet in the series.

So near, yet so far; Test to be won: Cricket fraternity reacts to India's failed heist at Lord's
London [UK], July 15 (ANI): 'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar and several former cricketers hailed the troika of Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah for putting up a headstrong fight despite India enduring a 22-run heartbreak at Lord's on the final day of the third Test against England. After a dreadful batting collapse in the final hour of Day 4 and the opening phase of the final day, India fought till the last breath to keep hopes alive of salvaging a victory. In pursuit of a 193-run target on the Lord's surface that came alive in the final six sessions, India were reduced to 58/4 and then half buried in the ground, after tottering at 82/7. The chase appeared to be a lost cause, but Jadeja and Bumrah put on a stubborn stand to reignite India's hopes. The chants of 'India, India' echoed throughout the Lord's despite the overwhelming presence of English spectators. At the end, the visitors' resistance eventually gave out and surrendered to a 22-run heartbreak loss. 'So near, yet so far.... Jadeja, Bumrah, & Siraj fought all the way till the end. Well tried, Team India. England played well to keep the pressure on and produced the result they desired. Congratulations on a hard-fought win,' Sachin wrote on X. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who took off his jersey and waved it in the Lord's balcony, 23 years ago in the NatWest Series final against England, felt it was a Test to be won. 'What a test match .. India will leave Lords very disappointed .. they played so well all 3 test matches . But down 2-1 ..it was a test match to be won.. jadeja fought hard and showed 193 was not a big total ..@bcci @Teamindiacrick,' Ganguly wrote on X. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh sees the positive side of the result. He feels that even though India ended on the wrong side of the result, the five days of pulsating battle will be remembered for the fight that the team showed. 'Not the result we wanted, but this match will be remembered for the fight we showed. @imjadeja and @mdsirajofficial stood tall in a pressure cooker situation! A performance that demands respect - not just for the skill, but for the mindset! On to the next one boys,' Yuvraj wrote on X. Former India batter Wassim Jaffer was proud of the fight that India exhibited and wrote on X, 'Heartbreaking finish but proud of the fight. Take a bow @imjadeja, what determination, what patience. What a Test match we've had. Congratulations @benstokes38 lion hearted effort from him with the ball.' According to ex-India spinner Harbhajan Singh, it wasn't India's day and wrote on X, 'Showed great commitment @imjadeja @Jaspritbumrah93 & @mdsirajofficial wasn't our day #INDvsENG @BCCI.' Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan identified the turning point of the clash and wrote on X, 'Fight shown by India but England was able to siege the crucial movements.' The game was evenly poised after both teams returned on day three. India replied to England's 387 with the exact total. Many felt the contest was fated to end in a draw, but Lord's turf changed its nature, and the ramifications became much greater. India managed to bowl out England on 192, but captain Ben Stokes and tearaway Jofra Archer breathed fire to leave India threadbare. Jadeja faced 22 overs with Bumrah and then the next 13 overs with Siraj, but failed to turn his unbeaten 61 into a match-winning score, as India fell behind 2-1 in the series. (ANI)

Rahul's drop or Pant's runout? Karthik, Hussain identify match-turning moment of India's 22-run defeat at Lord's
London [UK], July 15 (ANI): Former India wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik and ex-England skipper Nasser Hussain handpicked their moments that played a defining role in dictating the outcome of a palpitating third Test at Lord's. Momentum oscillated in favour of both sides, but England stole away the key moments to bask in a 22-run triumph at Lord's. A stubborn India misfired in their attempts to gun down a 193-run target despite Ravindra Jadeja's late resistance act with tail-enders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Karthik doesn't feel that the entire Test should be judged on the events that unfolded on the final day. He dissected the first innings and emphasised India's 'mini-collapse' from 376/6 to being down and out on 387, the exact total that England posted. Apart from the batting blunder, KL Rahul misjudged a catch at the slips cordon and allowed Jamie Smith a second life by dropping him on five. The young prodigy tantalised India by adding 46 more runs before being dismissed by Siraj on 51. 'If you are going to judge the match based on what happened today, I think you are looking at the wrong side. You have got to look at 376-6 in the first innings to 387 all out. Again a bit of a mini-collapse. The catch that KL Rahul dropped, Jamie Smith on five,' Karthik said on Sky Sports. 'How much do those things matter to you? Those are the conversations you need to have. There were moments India could have gone ahead and couldn't for the third time this series,' he added. For Hussain, England captain Ben Stokes' precise throw to get India vice-captain Rishabh Pant run out on 74, moments before lunch on the third day, changed the complexion of the entire game. 'When you look back, that Rishabh Pant run out in India's first innings will be absolutely vital to this game. With the ball, in the field, with the bat, Stokes is never out of the game!' Hussain said. In the opening hour of the final day, Stokes and tearaway Jofra Archer reduced India to 82/7. Jadeja gave England a run for their money with his unbeaten 61, but his efforts went in vain after Shoaib Bashir's ball spun enough to rattle Siraj's stumps, leaving the experienced speedster heartbroken on his knees and being consoled by England players. 'This will be a tough one for India to take. If we had those pie charts up about who has won sessions in this series, they have won so many sessions. They have played so much good cricket. But they are 2-1 down because of the key moments - little collapses, dropped catches, Pant's run out here at Lord's. India need a break. If we had back-to-back Test matches, this would he hard for them,' Hussain added. (ANI)
