Watch: Young fan takes casual catch in the stands during Yorkshire vs Sussex, day after James Wharton took cracker!
It has now been two days of sensational catch-taking in Yorkshire's contest against Sussex in the County Championship. A day after James Wharton took arguably the catch of the season, a young fan took a nonchalant catch while sitting in the stands.
The moment came on Wednesday when Finlay Bean, who scored 21, whipped a Danny Lamb delivery off the pads and sent it sailing over mid-wicket for a six. If the casual shot and its rewards of a maximum were not awe-worthy enough, fact that a youngster - sitting front row on wooden benches - catching it smoothly made it doubly special.
Moment after taking the catch, he lobbed it back towards the ground, plucked his bat and gave a high-five to the man next to him as the crowd applauded his effort.
It was maybe in the air at Scarborough with

a day prior for Yorkshire against Sussex.
On Day 1 of the match, Tom Haines tried to play a Jack White ball over mid-wicket, only to sky a top-edge.
Wharton, stationed at shortish mid-wicket, ran across towards deep square-leg and leaped full length, holding onto the ball mid-air for Sussex's first wicket of the match.
'I completely agree with that statement, yeah,' said Wharton, when told that the competition's social media account had labelled it, 'possibly the greatest catch of all time.'

'Tom Haines hit the shot, it went up in the air and I started running thinking, 'I'm not going to get anywhere near it'. But it was like the ball just sort of stopped in the air for a while as I was running. So, I was like, 'Oh, bloody hell, I might have a chance here'.
'It's one of those where you just hope it hits your hand and sticks, and obviously it did.
'I wouldn't have stuck a dive in if I didn't think I could reach it.
'My only concern was I didn't actually look where the rope was or where people were.
'I was obviously lucky that I wasn't anywhere near the rope.'

Chandigarh's ‘Swayam' self-defence academy shut down, training now limited to schools
1 2 Chandigarh: In a concerning development for women's safety initiatives in the city, Chandigarh Police's renowned 'Swayam' self-defence academy, which empowered thousands of young girls and women over the past seven years, has remained shut since Aug 2024. The closure marks a significant shift in how self-defence training is now being imparted across Chandigarh. Launched in 2017 with the aim of equipping girls with physical and mental tools to defend themselves, 'Swayam' quickly became a symbol of empowerment in the city. Through martial arts, Wushu, and other practical self-defence techniques, the programme reached every corner of the city, from economically weaker sections to schools, colleges, and the IT sector. Between 2017 and 2024, a total of 978 self-defence programmes were conducted, training 1,33,471 girls and women. Alongside this, 739 awareness programmes were held, reaching 92,560 participants. In total, the initiative reached 1,717 groups with a combined 2,26,031 attendees, making it one of the most expansive public safety training efforts in the region. Under the 'Swayam' banner, participants didn't just learn to protect themselves, many went on to excel in sports and competitions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Moose Approaches Girl At Bus Stop In Yaroslavskaya Oblast - Watch What Happens Happy in Shape Undo From 2018 to 2024, girls trained through the program brought home 917 medals, including 319 gold, 298 silver, and 300 bronze, even clinching 3 gold and 1 silver medal at international levels. However, since the academy's closure in Aug 2024, the format of the programme has been scaled down. Now, training is being conducted only in schools by police personnel, raising concerns about accessibility and outreach, especially for those outside the formal education system. SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said, "Around 1,500 girls have been trained under this programme so far this year." While the commitment of the police force to continue the training is evident, the absence of a dedicated academy limits the programme's scale and impact. Players have expressed disappointment over the academy's closure, calling for its revival. Many fear that without a centralised hub for structured training, the consistency and quality of the programme could suffer. As Chandigarh continues to promote safety and empowerment for women, the future of 'Swayam' now hangs in the balance, a once-celebrated initiative now functioning only in fragments.

Amari Cooper fooled the internet as fake retirement post sends fans into chaos (Image via Getty) A viral post on X (formerly Twitter) recently claimed that Amari Cooper had retired from football. The post rapidly caught internet attention. One parody account purporting to be ESPN reporter Adam Schefter shared it. The message had been viewed over 250,000 times in a few hours, which puzzled supporters. Amari Cooper has not declared his retirement despite the excitement. He is still a free agent and hopes for the ideal squad to contact. Here is what started the gossip and where things stand today. Amari Cooper shuts down rumors of retirement Born on June 17, 1994, Amari Cooper of Alabama was picked fourth overall in the Raiders' 2015 NFL Draft. He collected seven 1,000-yard seasons and five Pro Bowl nods with the Raiders, Cowboys, and Browns. In October 2024, he was moved from Cleveland to the Buffalo Bills. In eight games for Buffalo, he concluded the 2024 season with two touchdowns, 20 catches for 297 yards. Teams in need of veteran depth at wide receiver are reportedly interested. The Dallas Cowboys have been linked to a possible reunion, as they did not draft any receivers in 2025 and could use experience behind CeeDee Lamb. The Buffalo Bills may also look into Cooper's comeback following the 2025 draft, which would reduce their receiving depth. Writers and experts, meanwhile, note his potential match with teams like the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos, which would gain from his red zone presence and leadership. Sources say Cooper is still training and open to offers before or during training camp. He hasn't ruled out playing again even as teams make rookie moves and depth charts shift. Amari Cooper did not retire. He continues to be a free agent, still looking for possibilities in the NFL. Though a fake post started the internet rumor, facts prove he still trains and looks for the perfect team to call. Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors in trade talks for Jonathan Kuminga amid ongoing contract standoff
Sacramento Kings is showing interest in Jonathan Kuminga (Image via Getty Images) There is still no end in sight to the Jonathan Kuminga drama. However, he is now receiving some intriguing offers from the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings. Devin Carter, Dario Saric, and second-round choices were the initial reported offer from the Sacramento Kings, but it was not going to be enough. According to reports, Sacramento Kings now want the player for Malik Monk and a first-round pick. Sacramento Kings reportedly push for Jonathan Kuminga with new trade offer The initial offers for a Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade have not impressed the Golden State Warriors . However, the most fascinating offer so far has reportedly been made. The Sacramento Kings, on the other hand, are looking to add some young players to their squad. Now, he is the target of their attention. By giving the NBA player a big role and the opportunity to thrive in ways the Golden State Warriors haven't been able to, they think they can maximize his potential. Hence, the Sacramento Kings have made a fresh offer for Jonathan Kuminga's trade, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic. He recently said: 'The Kings have offered Malik Monk and a lottery-protected 2030 first-round pick to the Warriors for Jonathan Kuminga. Unlike the Suns' four-year, $90 million proposal, Sacramento is only offering Kuminga a three-year contract.' He continued: 'As for the Kings, which last spoke with the Warriors earlier this week, team sources say they've offered a three-year, $63 million deal for Kuminga in a proposal that would send veteran guard Malik Monk and their 2030 first-round pick (lottery protected) to the Warriors…' Jonathan Kuminga is being desired by many teams (Image via Instagram / @jonathan_kuminga) He then concluded: 'If that pick didn't convey, then the Warriors would get the least favorable of the Kings or San Antonio's first-round pick in 2031. Those protections have been the primary sticking point, team sources said, as the Warriors have insisted that the first-rounder be unprotected. Thus, the stalemate…' This is a substantial offer. When the Sacramento Kings first tried to trade for Jonathan Kuminga, they offered a far lesser package. The Golden State Warriors might be interested in this one.
