Have you signed the updated locker agreement with your bank? If not, you are at the risk of losing your locker. Customers who have bank lockers face the risk of losing access if they fail to sign a revised rental agreement with their banks.
Approximately 20% of locker renters could be denied access for not meeting regulatory timelines.
The revised locker agreement now includes provisions allowing customers to seek legal remedies if banks fail to safeguard their locker contents.
Banks are considering measures against non-compliant customers as the Reserve Bank of India (
RBI
) monitors compliance levels. Sources told ET that banks have approached both the regulator and government officials seeking authorisation to dispatch final notices and potentially seal lockers.
These actions aim to ensure adherence to regulations whilst protecting banks from supervisory concerns.

Currently, banks limit their actions to sending reminder notices to customers about agreement renewals. A government representative confirmed that they are reviewing the appeal from public sector banks.
The RBI's updated guidelines for locker agreements required complete implementation by March 2024.
In August 2021, RBI instructed banks to implement revised agreements with existing locker holders by January 1, 2023, considering technological advancements, customer complaints and feedback.
Subsequently, RBI extended the implementation deadline to December 2023, followed by a further extension to March 2024.

"There are customers who, despite reminders, have not turned up.... Then there are some genuine cases due to legal issues between parties involved," said a bank executive.
During discussions with the RBI, banks have requested permission to suspend locker operations and issue notices when customers fail to comply, according to another banking official.
"Meanwhile, we have requested that the compliance date of March 2024 should be extended, including the time given to the customer for compliance, which can be four months," said the banker cited immediately above. The banker suggested December 2025 as the new deadline for banks to achieve full compliance with RBI regulations.

No more spam calls from banks for loans, credit cards: TRAI, RBI join forces to provide relief to customers

Academy Empower your mind, elevate your skills The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Reserve Bank of India have joined hands to implement measures aimed at reducing unwanted spam calls and messages related to loans and credit cards. A lot of people have expressed their dissatisfaction about receiving spam calls from companies with which they previously made purchases. However, these companies often claim that they have the consumer's permission to send these an effort to curb the prevalence of spam calls, TRAI has launched a pilot project focused on digital consent management , collaborating with RBI and certain banks. On June 13, 2025, TRAI directed all telecom service providers (TSPs) to engage in this pilot project with a release dated June 16, the Ministry of Communications highlighted that the banking sector will be the initial focus due to the sensitivity of financial transactions and the associated risk of fraud stemming from spam calls. "Given the sensitivity of banking transactions and cases of financial fraud through spam calls, the banking sector has been prioritised for the first phase of implementation. This pilot, running under a regulatory sandbox framework, will validate the operational, technical, and regulatory aspects of the enhanced consent registration function (CRF) and lay the foundation for sector-wise scaling of the digital consent ecosystem," the ministry new regulations require companies to get consent digitally and register it in a secure system managed by telecom service providers (TSPs). This system will allow easy verification of consent before any commercial communication is sent. "However, for successful operation of this consent registration framework, onboarding of entities sending commercial communications is a necessary requirement," TRAI recent years, TRAI has introduced measures like allowing consumers to complain about unregistered telemarketers, even if they haven't registered for Do Not Disturb (DND), to curb spam calls. The telecom regulator has also disconnected telecom resources misused for spam. However, verifying if a consumer truly gave consent for commercial communication, especially offline, remains January, RBI asked banks to use only the '1600xx' phone numbering series to call customers for transactional purposes with a view to preventing financial fraud. It further said that for promotional purposes, banks and other regulated entities (REs) should use only the '140xx' numbering series for the prevention of financial fraud perpetrated using voice calls and SMS. State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest lender, in June issued a public advisory regarding the authenticity of calls originating from numbers beginning with +91-1600, aiming to strengthen consumer safety in the digital banking ecosystem. The bank has made clear that consumers can safely interact with these numbers without worrying about fraud; these numbers are used only for transactional and service-related calls.

Sebi proposes widening accreditation scope for KRAs, allows AIFs to provisionally onboard investors, public consultation sought till July 8

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Wednesday proposed two key regulatory reforms aimed at expanding the investor accreditation framework and accelerating onboarding processes for Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs). The regulator has invited public feedback on these proposals by July 8. Under the suggested changes, all KYC Registration Agencies (KRAs) would become eligible to function as accreditation agencies, reversing the current restriction that limits the role to subsidiaries of stock exchanges and depositories, PTI reported. Sebi noted that only two accreditation agencies—CDSL Ventures Ltd and NSDL Data Management Ltd—are currently operational, both of which are KRAs. Expanding eligibility 'would not disrupt the existing accreditation ecosystem' and could bring in more players, boosting competition and reducing costs, the market watchdog said in its consultation paper. The regulator pointed out that five KRAs are already registered, and broadening their role would inject efficiency and choice into the accreditation process. The proposal also empowers AIF managers to provisionally onboard investors as accredited clients, based on first-level due diligence, subject to issuance of a formal accreditation certificate. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo To ensure compliance, Sebi stipulated that investment funds cannot be accepted from these provisionally onboarded investors until a valid accreditation certificate is obtained. Additionally, any capital commitment made before certification will not count towards the scheme corpus. For close-ended AIF schemes, the paper mandates that if accreditation is not secured before the final close, AIFs must void the contribution agreement and not accept any funds from the investor. Currently, the onboarding process requires investors to obtain a certificate before being recognised as accredited, and their capital commitment is only included post-accreditation.
