Minister launches Season-2 of Uraan innovation hub
The event marked a renewed national commitment to advancing innovation, creativity, and collaboration as essential tools for economic and social transformation.
In his opening remarks, the minister reflected on the success of URAAN Pakistan Innovation Hub Season 1, calling it a flagship initiative, and his personal brainchild born from a strong belief in the ingenuity of the Pakistani people.

He highlighted the achievements of the Pakistan Innovation Fund, which has already disbursed Rs147 million to 39 awardees across the country. These initiatives span key sectors such as agriculture, health, education, and technology, contributing to tangible socio-economic progress.
The minister linked the launch to the global observance of World Creativity and Innovation Day, emphasising that creativity and innovation are no longer just buzzwords but are central to national competitiveness in the modern economy. He noted that we live in an age of rapid technological advancement— what once took decades to achieve can now unfold within years, underscoring the urgency for Pakistan to accelerate its pace of innovation and reform.
Looking ahead to the centenary of Pakistan's independence in 2047, the minister called for a renewed focus on performance and progress. 'In the next two decades, we don't just need to catch up; we need to sprint,' he said, stressing that Pakistan must push its limits and pursue innovation-led growth to not only stay relevant but to lead in the global arena.
While recognising the brilliance, creativity, and resilience of Pakistani minds worldwide, the minister candidly addressed the challenge of inconsistent policy execution in the past. He pointed out that national plans like Vision 2010 and Vision 2025 were well-conceived but fell short in implementation. 'That era must end now,' he asserted, framing URAAN Pakistan not merely as a program but as a movement aimed at propelling the country forward.
A special focus of the initiative is on youth empowerment, with 60 per cent of the population under the age of 30. The Innovation Fund was established to provide seed capital to young professionals and change makers, enabling them to turn ideas into scalable ventures with real-world impact.
The minister emphasised that innovation must also serve economic priorities—particularly export growth. He outlined a vision to increase Pakistan's exports from $32 billion to $100 billion over the next decade, arguing that economic independence hinges on earning foreign exchange through globally competitive products and services.
'True success is not launching products locally, but competing globally,' he said, noting that transformation does not happen overnight but is the result of consistent, incremental progress across all sectors. He referenced the experiences of countries such as China, Korea, and Malaysia, whose economic 'miracles' were the outcome of decades of small revolutions driven by their citizens.
Highlighting the potential of Pakistan's creative industries— including music, art, design, gaming, and culture— Minister Iqbal announced that these sectors will be brought under the umbrella of URAAN Pakistan. A national workshop will be held in the coming weeks to chart a strategic roadmap for developing the country's creative economy, which he identified as a key driver of future growth.
The minister also reiterated the government's commitment to the 5Es National Economic Transformation Plan—Exports, E-Pakistan, Environment and Climate Change, Energy and Infrastructure, and Equity and Empowerment. Through the National Economic Transformation Unit, the plan ensures that every policy and investment is aligned with measurable outcomes and national growth objectives.
In conclusion, he reaffirmed that Pakistan's true identity lies not in challenges but in its creativity, resilience, and excellence. He called on all sectors of society—especially the youth—to take part in this movement of transformation, declaring that URAAN Pakistan is the nation's flight toward a brighter, more innovative future.

DG ISPR dismisses reports of Field Marshal Munir's 'apology' remarks
Military spokesperson Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Thursday refuted media reports attributing apology remarks to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir. Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, the DG ISPR said that journalist Sohail Warraich's article was based on an event held in Brussels, where hundreds of people took pictures with the field marshal but no interview was given by the Army Chief. He clarified that there was no mention of PTI or any apology at the event, adding that it was the journalist's own work for personal gain and publicity. DG ISPR further said the senior journalist had shown irresponsibility for personal gain and a publicity stunt, as the field marshal gave no interview during his Brussels visit. However, he reiterated that the perpetrators of the May 9 riots would have to face the law. To a question of a legal action against the media organization for relaying misleading reports, the DG ISPR noted, "We have said it explicitly that the institutions should show responsibility and avoid reporting inappropriate information." Pakistan is a country that has a potential to change the fate of the region, which is why it is attacked frequently, the ISPR DG asserted, adding the youth should understand the legacy and history of their ideological state. Ahmed Chaudhry said that the Indian designs of discrediting Pak Army through terrorist proxies and other facilitators have been foiled by Pak Army's befitting response. They were wrong in believing that they could defeat Pakistan through their multi-billion military might. On the ground, Pakistan defeated both India and its proxies - Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan -simultaneously. The DG ISPR further highlighted that the decision taken by all political parties in 2014 to stamp out terrorism from Pakistan has not been fully implemented till date. He pointed out that whenever illegal Afghans involved in crimes were expelled, some political and criminal elements within the country start creating fuss. He termed implementation on 14 points of the National Action Plan pivotal. The military spokesperson said the army, police and law enforcement agencies are bridging the governance gap with their blood on a daily basis, adding, "Pakistani youth are our asset."

China eyes agricultural, mining cooperation with Pakistan, foreign minister says
BEIJING: China is willing to cooperate with Pakistan in industry, agriculture and mining, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Thursday, according to a readout of the meeting released by Wang's ministry. Beijing would continue to support Pakistan in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and combating terrorism, Wang told Dar, adding that China would continue to give priority to Pakistan in its regional diplomacy. Both countries should join hands to safeguard the multilateral trading system and oppose unilateral bullying, and upgrade the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, he said. Wang, on a five-day tour of South Asia, has visited India and Afghanistan, mending and consolidating ties with China's neighbours to the south days before a leaders' summit in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a 10-nation Eurasian security and political grouping whose members include China, Russia, India, Pakistan, and Iran. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to China - his first visit in seven years - to attend the summit. At a press briefing on Thursday, Wang also welcomed Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to attend both the summit and activities to mark the formal surrender of Japan at the end of World War Two, which will feature a massive military parade in Beijing. Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to attend the parade in the Chinese capital on September 3. During Thursday's meeting with Dar, Wang again urged Pakistan to 'effectively safeguard the safety of Chinese personnel, projects and organisations in Pakistan'. Over the years China has poured billions of dollars into infrastructure projects in Pakistan under the Belt and Road Initiative. But security concerns have mounted, with Chinese workers repeatedly targeted in what Beijing has called terrorist attacks in the South Asian nation. 'China appreciates Pakistan's unremitting efforts and great sacrifices made in combating terrorism,' Wang said, according to a Chinese ministry statement.

Poland agrees to boost employment opportunities for Pakistani workers
The governments of Pakistan and Poland have agreed to strengthen cooperation to create employment opportunities for Pakistani workers and expand labour mobility between the two countries. The development came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Polish Ambassador to Pakistan, Maciej Pisarski. The discussion focused on bilateral relations and proposals to provide employment opportunities for Pakistanis in Poland, read a statement on Thursday. During the meeting, Salik stated that over the past year, Pakistan exported products worth $450 million to Poland in the sectors of textiles, leather, and sports. The Polish envoy expressed condolences for the loss of life and property due to recent floods in various areas of Pakistan. 'He also indicated that there are employment opportunities for Pakistanis in Poland, and that stringent measures have been taken to curb illegal immigration,' he said. It was learnt that Poland's Foreign Minister will visit Pakistan in October, during which several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed. Salik Hussain noted that in one year, 742,000 Pakistanis went abroad for employment, and that Pakistan ranks fourth worldwide in exporting its workforce. He informed the Polish envoy that strong actions have been taken to prevent illegal immigration. Pilot projects with Korea and Japan to employ Pakistanis are progressing successfully. During the meeting, both sides agreed to enhance cooperation to provide employment opportunities for Pakistanis in Poland. The Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment (BE&OE) and the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) registered 727,381 workers for overseas employment in 2024, according to The Economic Survey 2024-25. According to BE&OE, more than 62% (452,562) of Pakistani workers moved to Saudi Arabia for employment, followed by Oman (11%), to earn a living. UAE employed 64,130 Pakistani workers (9%) while Qatar offered jobs to 40,818 individuals (6%). Bahrain and Malaysia hosted 25,198 workers (3%) and 5,790 workers (1%), respectively.
