Raith Rovers confirm 5 departures and players who could be offered new deals
Raith Rovers have announced the departures of five out-of-contract players as they kick-start a summer rebuild under Barry Robson.
The Kirkcaldy club are also in discussions with a further six whose deals are expiring in the coming days.
Departing Stark's Park are cult hero keeper Kevin Dabrowski, popular winger Aidan Connolly, defender Euan Murray after a second spell at the club, youngster Jake Nicholson and former Dundee United full-back Kieran Freeman.
They are joined by loan players George Gitau, Aiden Marsh, Finlay Pollock and St Johnstone's Josh Rae returning to their parent clubs.
There remains uncertainty over the futures of a number of others, with vice-captain Ross Matthews, striker Jamie Gullan, defenders Liam Dick and Callum Hannah, and back-up keeper Andy McNeil in discussions over fresh terms.
Striker Callum Smith, currently recovering from major knee surgery, is also in talks after being reassured he would be 'looked after' during his rehabilitation.
A statement read: 'With the 2024/25 season now concluded, we can confirm our full retained and released squad list.
'Five players have been released following the expiration of their contracts.
'We'd like to place on record our sincere thanks to all five for their efforts and contributions during their time with us, and wish each of them the very best for their futures.'
The business comes at the end of a season in which Raith have had three differing managers following the sacking of Ian Murray last August and the exit of Neill Collins for Sacramento Republic in late December.
Robson will aim to put his own stamp on the squad he inherited and the quintet departing will create space in the numbers and the budget for next term.
This time last year, the prospect of Dabrowski leaving would have been unthinkable for many, with the former Hibernian custodian building a strong reputation with some eye-catching displays.
He was the hero in the Premiership play-off semi-final win against Partick Thistle and something of a fans' favourite.
However, with shortcomings in his game, he lost his place in the team to Rae following the appointment of Robson and has been linked with a move south of the border.
Connolly is another who will have his supporters after more than 150 appearances since joining for a second stint in 2021.
But, again, he has struggled for a starting berth under Robson and his exit – with another Championship club expected to make a move – is perhaps no surprise.
Murray dropped out of Robson's plans towards the end of the season but was a solid and committed performer after returning to the club two years ago, whilst Freeman saw out the season on loan at Montrose and 20-year-old Nicholson has been deemed unlikely to make the grade with Rovers.

Lions squad headache for Andy Farrell as 16 players unavailable for first camp
The British and Irish Lions training camp was always going to clash with the two domestic finals and it means Andy Farrell's absentee list runs into double digits with Leinster and Bath among the finalists The British and Irish Lions will embark on their first training camp before heading to Australia without a staggering 16 members of their 38-man squad. Andy Farrell 's men will head to Portugal for some warm weather training before they play their tour opener against Argentina in Dublin on June 20. Rugby's calendar meant he was always going to be without certain individuals due to a clash with the Premiership and URC finals, which take place the weekend before. After the weekend's semi-finals Leinster, Bath and Leicester Tigers have all booked themselves finals berths. The Irish side provide the bulk of the squad - 12 members to be exact. Bath have two, including fly-half Finn Russell whilst Leicester provide one. The French calendar also means that the only Top 14 player - Toulouse fullback Blair Kinghorn - will still be playing for his club and another big name absentee. This is not the first time the scenario has arose - four years ago Gatland was missing 12 players from his 37-man squad that went to Jersey before their first game against Japan at Murrayfield. Farrell knew this was a possibility and has been making contingency plans. It is understood that several players will be on standby to come into Farrell's squad, but will not stay with the team when they fly to Australia. The Lions boss will call up those players who are already at the top of his standby list so that they are somewhat integrated in the squad should they receive a call-up to head Down Under as injury cover later down the line. The Lions want to avoid a repeat of the controversy from the 2017 tour to New Zealand - which became known as 'geography six'. Then head coach Warren Gatland called up six players based on their geographical proximity to the Lions, rather than the best man for the job, as he was accused of devaluing the jersey. The Times has already reported that Jamie George will join Lions training in Portugal next week as cover for Dan Sheehan and Ronan Kelleher. Farrell will be missing two of this three hookers due to Leinster playing in the final with Luke Cowan-Dickie the only original member of the squad available. He will also be without three of his second row options in James Ryan, Joe McCarthy and Ollie Chessum. The two men tipped to battle for the 15 shirt - Kinghorn and Hugo Keenan - are also absent. The two Smiths - Fin and Marcus - will eye the fly-half berth when the Lions face Argentina as they look to stake their claim. Russell has been tipped as the man to wear the 10 shirt but Fin Smith has made himself the starter for England and is seen as perhaps favouring Farrell's gameplan more. Lions players missing due to final involvement Ronan Kelleher (Leinster) Dan Sheehan (Leinster) Andrew Porter (Leinster) Tadhg Furlong (Leinster) Will Stuart (Bath) Ollie Chessum (Leicester) Joe McCarthy (Leinster) James Ryan (Leinster) Jack Conan (Leinster) Josh van der Flier (Leinster) Jamison Gibson-Park (Leinster) Finn Russell (Bath) Garry Ringrose (Leinster) Hugo Keenan (Leinster) Blair Kinghorn (Toulouse) James Lowe (Leinster) Despite the initial frustrations for the Lions coaching group, they may see positives in knowing that a number of the squad could head into camp off the back of winning trophies. Leinster's contingent want to end their lengthy period without a title and could be galvanised by such success. That said, a loss to the Bulls, who they'll play at Croke Park next weekend, would be a huge blow for a group who have continued to come up short. Russell can lead Bath to Premiership glory for the first time in nearly two decades and put to bed any doubts over the lack of silverware on his CV.

A former Hibs midfielder is reportedly close to snubbing a contract offer from one Premiership rival to join English League One club Wigan Athletic. Fraser Murray came through the youth ranks at Hibs and made his mark early with a goal in a 3-0 Scottish Challenge Cup win against Highland League side Turriff United in September 2016, before making his league debut against Raith Rovers later in the same season. Murray's progress was rewarded with a new deal in October 2018 as he racked up 17 senior appearances - but his first consistent experience of first-team football came during a loan spell with Championship club Dunfermline Athletic during the 2020/21 campaign. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Murray joined Kilmarnock on a permanent deal a the end of the same season and the former Scotland youth international has gone on to make over 120 appearances for the Rugby Park club over the last five years. After scoring four goals and providing three assists in 39 games in all competitions last season, Murray has attracted attention from clubs in both England and Scotland after his current contract with Killie comes to a close. Wigan Today have reported the Latics are set to see off competition from a number of their League One rivals plus Scottish clubs like Kilmarnock, who hoped to get him on a new contract. The likes of Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers and Stockport County were all said to be keen on a deal for Murray. Head coach Ryan Lowe was reportedly at Kilmarnock's penultimate game of the season as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at Motherwell and appears to have seen enough from Murray during an 89-minute display to convince him to make the 26-year-old his first signing of the summer. The report also claims Wigan are looking to complete a second swoop on the Premiership and are keen on a deal for Ross County forward Ronan Hale - but will reportedly face competition from clubs in England and Scotland. Philippe Clement pinpoints Rangers breaking point as flop boss admits board 'listened to fans too much'
Philippe Clement has pinpointed the moment he felt his Rangers breaking point had arrived. The Belgian boss was given the boot at Ibrox last season with rivals Celtic running away at the top of the Premiership and no chance of silverware after a Premier Sports Cup Final defeat and a major Scottish Cup upset at Ibrox from Queen's Park. Despite winning plaudits for his results and performances in the Europa League, his side couldn't replicate it week to week in the domestic bread and butter and ultimately it proved costly to the 51-year-old after he was axed. It is all change at Ibrox now with 49ers Enterprises completing their takeover at the club and Russell Martin now in as manager. But former boss Clement believes THAT Hampden defeat to Brendan Rodgers was the 'vital game' as he admitted the board 'maybe listened too much to some fans' as he looked back on his time in Govan. He told BBC Sport Scotland: "I had a feeling, a bad feeling, after the League Cup final. I think it was a vital game. "If we had won, there would have been more patience with the fans also and the board could have stayed much calmer. "It's a pity that the story stopped, that the board didn't have the patience, or maybe listened too much to some fans. "There are other clubs where there is a difficult moment and everybody sticks together because everybody knows the story, how the work is done inside the building, and they continue and they are successful afterwards. "In three or four windows, we could have closed the gap [to Celtic] with a good development of players, but the decision is made and you need to accept it." It is set to be a busy summer at Rangers with a host of names already linked with joining the new Martin revolution. But Clement reckons FIVE players at the club now have real sell on value and teams would pay good money for their services. Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande have both been linked with summer exits - the latter with Everton. But there are also others who the Belgian reckons could net a tidy windfall. He continued: "Nicolas Raskin made a really good evolution. A lot of clubs are interested in him. "But you also have Jefte, Hamza Igamane, Clinton Nsiala, who will have a better value. Mohamed Diomande is also one of those guys. "The club has worked well the past year in that way. "There are now four or five players with the value to sell and several teams would pay good amounts of money.
