"Wipe Off Your Makeup": Woman Fails Facial Recognition At China Airport

NDTV29-05-2025
A passenger departing Shanghai was asked to remove her makeup after the facial scanner failed to identify her at the immigration counter.
A short video of the young woman being disciplined by an airport employee surfaced on social media. In the clip, she is seen wiping and scrubbing her face while the airport staff instructs her in an irritated tone.
The employee insisted, "Wipe everything off until you look like your passport photo."
"Why would you do your makeup like that? You are asking for trouble," she was heard saying in the video.
The video was taken at the Shanghai Airport in September 2024 and initially shared on Chinese social media, per Oddity Central.
It remained unknown if she eventually cleared the airport's facial recognition test.

The clip sparked hilarious responses on social media.
One commented, "It's not like she was able to walk around with a filter on in real life, right?"
"This is cosplay. Not just regular makeup," a second comment read.
Others sympathised with the young lady, saying she appeared uncomfortable enough and that the airport official had no right to harass her over her makeup.
"Poor girl should not be laughed at. The guard hurt her feelings. Not nice and not funny," one said.
Others questioned whether makeup should be a problem for modern facial recognition technology.
"No matter how thick the makeup is, the face shouldn't be unrecognisable, right? Isn't it time to upgrade the equipment?" another asked.
Not long ago, model influencer Janaina Prazeres was also held for 40 minutes by immigration officials who couldn't identify her surgically altered face.
Ms Prazeres, who Playboy Norway referred to as the "perfect woman," has spent about one million dollars on 20 cosmetic surgeries, including nose jobs, body lifts, and complete face "harmonisation," per The Post.

Parag Tyagi Gets Wife Shefali Jariwala's Face Tattooed On His Chest: "My Gift To Pari On Our 15th Anniversary"

New Delhi: Parag Tyagi has found a special way to keep his wife, Shefali Jariwala, close forever. The actor, who lost his wife on June 27, recently got a tattoo of her face inked on his chest. Shefali, remembered fondly for the iconic Kaanta Laga music video, died after a sudden cardiac arrest at her Mumbai home. She was 42. Her untimely demise left friends, family and fans in shock. Pavithra Menon's video mocking Param Sundari trailer, Janhvi Kapoor's accent removed by Instagram; singer responds: ‘Happy Independence Day'

Besides clocking over 43 million views on YouTube, the official trailer of director Tushar Jalota's Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles, has also attracted a flood of memes and ridicule, particularly aimed at its caricatured portrayal of Kerala and its culture. Soon after the promo video was unveiled, many took to social media to critique the movie, which appeared marred by stereotypes rooted in a purported apathy towards the state and the lives of its natives. Among those who criticised Param Sundari was Malayalam singer Pavithra Menon, who vehemently expressed her disapproval in a video analysing the various aspects of the film, particularly Janhvi's accent and attire as a Malayali woman. Now, Pavithra has revealed that Instagram removed her video after receiving a copyright strike from 'a third party'. The singer also shared a screenshot of the notice she received from the social media platform, which stated, 'We removed the following content you posted on Instagram because we received a notice from a third party that it infringes their copyright.' Taking a dig at this, she wrote in the caption, 'Happy Independence Day to everyone who has a voice.' In her video, Pavithra also criticised the makers for not casting a Malayalam actor in the lead role. The clip featured a few seconds of footage from the movie's trailer alongside Pavithra's reaction, where she asked, 'What's the problem in hiring a proper Malayali actor? Hum kam talented hote hain kya (Are we less talented)?' She continued, 'We have done such things in Malayalam films of the 90s when we had to show Punjabis (does an exaggerated balle balle). But now it's 2025. I think everybody knows how a Malayali talks, and how they are as normal as anybody else. We don't just wear jasmine flowers and do Mohiniyattam everywhere.' After Pavithra shared the notice on Instagram, many users rallied in support of her in the comments section. 'That means it reached the right ears. We'll done,' one netizen noted, while another person commented, 'They're scared of this also? Happy Independence Day ig.' An angry Instagrammer wrote, 'All Malayalis should submit a copyright infringement report against them for misrepresenting an entire state and its culture – they could have at least watched a few Malayalam movies for reference.' Pavithra later reuploaded her video on Instagram after removing footage from the movie's trailer. A post shared by PAVITHRA MENON (@pavithramenon) Besides Janhvi's accent and attire, as well as the many stereotypical images presented in the trailer, her character's name, Thekkupetta Sundari Damodaran Pillai, also attracted significant trolling, with many Malayalees pointing out that no Keralite has ever had a name even closely resembling that. Many native speakers also ridiculed the trailer, claiming they were unable to follow even a single word of the supposed Malayalam that Janhvi spoke. Also starring Renji Panicker, Siddhartha Shankar, Manjot Singh, Sanjay Kapoor and Inayat Verma, Param Sundari is bankrolled by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films. The movie will hit the screens on August 29.

In an emotional Instagram post shared on her 27th birthday, the June Baby star revealed how trauma had haunted her for eight years, resurfacing after a recent assault unlocked buried memories. Born without part of her right arm, Canal described her alleged abuser as a decades-older family man with a respected public image, yet privately controlling, threatening, and exploitative. She claims he touched her, took non-consensual photos, and isolated her by warning that her career would be destroyed, even admitting later that his manipulation was premeditated.
