India Today3 days ago
A controversy has broken out in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur after an alleged audio clip of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislator Daggupati Venkateswara Prasad surfaced online. In the recording, the MLA is purportedly heard insulting actor Jr NTR and calling for a boycott of his latest film War 2.The audio clip, which has gone viral on social media, allegedly captures the MLA speaking to a fan during the release of the film. In the clip, a voice said to be Prasad's can be heard stating, 'The cinema won't run. Without my word, the cinema won't run. I am Anantapur MLA.' When the caller responded, 'What you're talking like that, Anna.... What should I tell?', the MLA allegedly reiterated, 'The cinema won't run. The cinema won't run, that's all.'advertisementThe clip prompted anger among Jr NTR's fans, who staged a protest outside the legislator's residence. Demonstrators raised slogans, tore down his flex boards and demanded a public apology from the MLA.
Responding to the controversy, Prasad released a video statement denying the allegations. He said, 'From the beginning, I have been an admirer of the Nandamuri family. I have always loved watching Balakrishna and NTR's movies. But now, fake audio calls have been created as if I abused Jr NTR. That call is fake; there is no truth in it.'The MLA further claimed that the audio clip was part of a political conspiracy to discredit him. He added that though the voice in the recording was not his, he wished to convey regret to the actor's supporters. 'Though it was not my voice, if Jr NTR fans are hurt, I apologise to them,' Prasad said.- Ends

'Coolie' box office collection Day 7: Rajinikanth starrer secures win over 'War 2'; ends week 1 with Rs 222.5 crore haul

Rajinikanth's 'Coolie' has wrapped up its first week at the box office on a strong note, collecting an estimated Rs 222.5 crore net in India. Despite facing weekday dips, the film has reaffirmed the superstar's dominance at the ticket window. Blockbuster box office opening Released on August 14, 'Coolie' stormed into cinemas with an impressive Rs 65 crore opening day haul, driven by Rajinikanth's unmatched fan frenzy. According to a report on Sacnilk, by the end of Friday, just two days into release, the film had already crossed the Rs 100 crore mark, notching up a total of Rs 119.75 crore. Weekend dip in collections The extended Independence Day weekend added fuel to the film's momentum. On Saturday, the film collected an estimated Rs 39.5 crore, followed by Rs 35.25 crore on Sunday, pushing its four-day total to Rs 194.5 crore. By its first Monday, the film surged past the Rs 200 crore milestone, though with a noticeable slowdown, earning Rs 12 crore. Weekday decline in ticket sales Post-Monday, the film's collections saw sharp drops. On Tuesday, it managed to rake in just around Rs 9.5 crore, and by Wednesday, the earnings dipped further to Rs 6.5 crore, bringing its Week 1 net total to Rs 222.5 crore. Rajinikanth's biggest box office hits With this, 'Coolie' is now Rajinikanth's third-biggest grosser in India. His sci-fi epic 2.0 remains untouchable at the top with Rs 407.05 crore net, followed by Jailer with Rs 348.55 crore. Worldwide collections According to trade reports on IMDB, the film's all-India gross stands at Rs 260.6 crore, while its overseas business has brought in Rs 162.2 crore. This takes Coolie's worldwide total to a massive Rs 422.8 crore within its first week. Made on a budget of Rs 350 crore, the film has already recovered costs and is now in clear profit territory. Clash with War 2 What makes this feat more remarkable is that Coolie has managed to achieve it despite a direct clash with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2. While Coolie surged past the Rs 220 crore mark, War 2 is estimated to have ended the week slightly lower at around Rs 199 crore, highlighting Rajinikanth's box office dominance.
