The brand was a trailblazer for sustainable beauty, championing natural ingredients and formulas gentle enough for sensitive skin
Credit: REN Clean Skincare
East London's REN is best known for leading the pack with a stripped-back, no-nonsense approach to skincare.
Founded by Rob Calcraft and Antony Buck, it was ahead of the curve when it came to so-called "clean" beauty.
The brand was a trailblazer for sustainable beauty, championing natural ingredients and formulas gentle enough for sensitive skin.
Goodbye after 25 years
Named after the Swedish word for 'clean,' REN was born in 2000 when its founder's pregnant wife started reacting badly to her usual products.

From the beloved Evercalm balm to the barrier-boosting elixir, REN's lineup has always favoured planet-friendly bioactives — ditching parabens, synthetic fragrances, sulfates and petrochemicals way before it was trendy.
REN was acquired in 2015 by beauty giant Unilever, joining its Prestige Brands division.
Its eco-conscious ethos set the blueprint for every green beauty brand that came after.
REN's gentle, effective formulas have won fans across the board — from teens discovering skincare for the first time, to those battling eczema.
While the industry buzzes with greenwashing nonsense, REN has remained a rare trustworthy name in sustainable skincare for 25 years.
Official statement
But now, REN has revealed the last time consumers can buy products from its official website on Instagram.

Sharing the date and a heartfelt message alongside an image which said: "We have some news… News for our fRENds ♥︎ You can still shop with us over at renskincare.com until 31 July 2025.
'After 25 incredible years we will soon be closing our doors. Born in London in 2000, we have been proud to put 'clean' skin care on the agenda, creating positive change for our people and planet.
'We thank you, our community, for your support over the years'.
Fans flooded to the comment section devastated to see the British beauty brand go.

One wrote: "I appreciate all you've done for me! What an amazing journey.'
Another said: "Wow. The Glow tonic changed my entire life 😭'
A third penned: "You really cleared my skin so many times, I have the most sensitive skin ever!"
In May, the news broke that REN is set to close, leaving the beauty world gutted.
Unilever said the decision was 'difficult' and blamed a mix of 'internal factors' and 'market challenges' for REN's failure to stay profitable long-term.
They said: 'We're proud of everything REN's achieved in 25 years — putting clean skincare on the map and making a difference for people and planet."

Santander set to buy TSB for £2.65billion – here's how it may affect five million customers

TSB will be sold to Santander in a move that will affect millions of customers across the country. Santander revealed today it had agreed a deal to acquire the British bank from Sabadell for a whopping £2.65billion. 1 But the deal is not set in stone just yet Credit: Getty Snapping up TSB would be a big win for Santander, giving it the seventh-largest branch network in Britain and adding five million customers to its existing 14million. However, the deal isn't set in stone yet and is still subject to approval by shareholders. If agreed then it's likely to happen in the first three months of 2026. Nothing will change for customers immediately as very little is known about the deal. But customers will be given lots of warning about any changes. That would mean it very much will be business as usual for now. While there are no immediate changes for customers of either bank, they could be introduced in future as the TSB brand is phased out. TSB founded as the Trustee Savings Bank in 1810, merged with Lloyds Bank to create Lloyds TSB in 1995. They could decide to merge the brands or alternatively they could be kept separate. With other mergers we have seen customers being able to access banking services in rival branches and this could be a useful perk. However, these details are still being hammered out by banking bosses. Sabadell - which owns TSB- said it would submit the deal to a shareholders meeting on August 6 for its approval as it is subject to the BBVA offer. Sabadell's shareholders must approve the TSB sale, as it is tied to BBVA's ongoing €14 billion takeover bid. If approved, the deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. Santander beat British rival Barclays which also put in a formal bid for the retail bank. Mike Regnier, boss of Santander UK, said: "This is an excellent deal for customers combining two strong and complementary banks, creating one of the most substantial banks in the UK and materially enhancing the competitiveness of the industry." Marc Armengol, TSB CEO, said: 'TSB is a truly special bank, run by a first-class team that deliver trusted service and support for customers, day in and day out. "Today's announcement represents the next exciting chapter for this successful business, as part of Santander, a highly regarded banking group. "I believe this will prove to be an excellent fit for our loyal customers.'
