SHAH ALAM: A total of 3,190 undocumented migrants were detained in 414 operations across Selangor over the past seven months. Selangor Immigration Department director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said statistics showed that the Petaling district recorded the highest number of arrests with 2,158 detainees, followed by Klang (617) and Hulu Langat (193). Within the same period, 941 undocumented migrants were successfully prosecuted in court. "The largest group comprised Indonesians, with 387 individuals, followed by Bangladeshis (245) and Indians (114). Most offences involved overstaying as well as not possessing any valid pass or permit," he said during a media engagement session here. Khairrul added that enforcement action was also taken against 22 employers for harbouring undocumented migrants under Section 56(1)(l) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. He said that 1,030 undocumented migrants of various nationalities were deported once documentation processes, including coordination with their respective embassies, were completed. "Statistics from Selangor Immigration also show that the majority of detainees at the Semenyih Immigration Depot were Myanmar nationals, with 655 individuals, followed by Bangladeshis (123), Indonesians (98), Indians (35), Pakistanis (20) and others (46)," he said. In a separate development, Khairrul said enforcement efforts would continue against foreigners in the state who breach the law. "In the case of foreign workers, there has been no new intake since May. Therefore, we have been conducting various operations, particularly targeting those who have violated their work permits," he said.

Bali police arrest Peruvian over drugs smuggled in sex toy
DENPASAR, Aug 19 — A Peruvian woman has been arrested in Indonesia's Bali after allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine into the resort island using a sex toy and hiding drugs in her underwear, police said today. The 42-year-old, identified only by her initials NS arrived at Bali's international airport from Qatar on August 12 when authorities became suspicious. 'The customs officers suspected her behaviour, and after consulting with the police, they did a further check on her,' Bali police narcotics unit director, Radiant, who like many Indonesians has one name, told a press conference. The officers found 1.4 kilograms of cocaine inside a sex toy hidden in her genitals and in her underwear. Police also accused her of smuggling dozens of ecstasy pills. The Peruvian woman told the police she was hired to transport the drugs to Indonesia by a man she met on the dark web in April in return for US$20,000 (RM84,470), said Radiant. The woman has been charged under Indonesia's harsh narcotics law and could face the death penalty if found guilty. Last month, a Bali court sentenced a 46-year-old Argentine to seven years in prison after she was found guilty of smuggling 244 grams of cocaine wrapped with a condom that she hid inside her genitals. Indonesia has some of the world's toughest drug laws. There are dozens of traffickers on death row in the country, including a cocaine-smuggling British grandmother. Indonesia last carried out executions in 2016, killing one Indonesian and three Nigerian drug convicts by firing squad. — AFP
