Top 10 Highest Kollywood Opening Day In Andhra States: Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie takes 2nd biggest start despite clash with War 2

Pink Villa2 days ago
Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, and starring Rajinikanth, took the second biggest opening among Tamil releases in Andhra states. It grossed Rs 17.75 crore and is just under Rajinikanth's own 2.0. The difference here is that Coolie managed Rs 17.75 crore, despite locking horns with War 2, featuring the Tollywood superstar Jr NTR. If not for the clash, the movie could have hit Rs 30 crore. A Rs 30 crore start would mean a new Kollywood record, and that too by a margin of an absurd 65-70 percent.
Coolie Takes 2nd Biggest Kollywood Opening In Andhra States; Would Have Topped List With Solo Release
Rajinikanth has a total of 5 movies in the list of top 10 highest opening Kollywood movies in Andhra states, and that's the highest for any actor. Apart from 2.0 and Coolie that occupy the top 2 spots, Kabali, Jailer and Darbar also make the cut. Audiences in the Andhra states have always treated Rajinikanth as their own star. For Coolie to give War 2 a run for its money in Andhra states speaks volumes. Infact, Coolie's day 2 is likely higher than War 2.
Other movies part of the list are Thalapathy Vijay's Leo, Master and Beast, Vikram's I and Kamal Haasan's Indian 2. To note, S Shankar is the biggest Kollywood director in Andhra states. He has 3 films in the list, and then there are also other blockbuster films of his that were earlier part of this list. Lokesh is also catching up to S Shankar's greatness in the twin states, with Coolie becoming his third film to enter the list after Leo and Master.

Saif Ali Khan was dropped from THIS Shah Rukh Khan's blockbuster, later it broke all records, film was…

Saif Ali Khan was dropped from THIS Shah Rukh Khan's blockbuster, later it broke all records, film was… In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, we often witness the on-screen chemistry and story of a film. However, what happens behind the surface when the curtain falls is a lot more than what meets the eye. One such behind-the-scenes tale is of a film whose off-screen story was more dramatic than the film itself. The film that we are talking about is none other than Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus, Devdas . Released in the year 2002, this film created history at the box office. It was acclaimed both commercially and critically. This film featured Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, and Jackie Shroff. It was not just a film; it was a visual masterpiece. But not many know that it was Saif Ali Khan who was originally considered for the role of Chunnilal , and Kareena Kapoor, too, had a bitter fallout with Bhansali during this period. Why did Saif Ali Khan drop out of Devdas? Initially, filmmaker Bhansali had Shah Rukh in mind as Devdas and Saif Ali Khan for the supporting role of Chunnilal . But due to some creative and financial misunderstanding, Saif was dropped. Years after its release, in 2001, Saif Ali Khan revealed in an interview that it wasn't him who rejected the role, rather the confusion over payments that led him out of the film. According to him, he didn't even consider himself a perfect fit for Chunnilal , believing his personality did not align with the character. Eventually, the role went to Jackie Shroff, who won appreciation for his portrayal. Kareena Kapoor's clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali Speaking of Kareena Kapoor, she also had a clash with Sanjay. She once revealed that she was called for a screen test for Paro's role and even received an advance payment. But later, Bhansali chose Aishwarya Rai instead. At that time, Kareena had just ventured into the world of acting, and this incident really hurt her deeply. She decided never to work with Bhansali again, claiming that he had caused her emotional pain. Bhansali, however, defended himself by saying that a screen test does not guarantee a role, as casting decisions often change after multiple evaluations. This disagreement marked the beginning of a sour relationship between the two, which continues to this day. However, despite all the ups and downs, the casting changes, and the controversies, Devdas turned out to be one of the most expensive films of its time, with a budget of around INR 44 crore. The film collected Rs 99.87 crore at the box office. From its extravagant production, soulful music, and impeccable performance of actors, this film became a cultural phenomenon that resonates even today, two decades after its release.

'Getting success is easy, keeping it is tough': Aslam Inamdar reflects on his rise from tea stall to kabaddi glory

Mumbai: For Puneri Paltan star Aslam Inamdar, kabaddi has been more than just a sport — it has been a lifeline. From humble beginnings helping his mother make ends meet by washing tea glasses at a stall, to lifting the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) trophy in Season 10, Aslam's story is one of grit, resilience, and self-belief. "My childhood was very hard. Our only goal was that nobody in the family should go hungry. I worked in hotels, on farms, anywhere I could — but I never let go of my passion for kabaddi," recalls Aslam on 'The Chill Hour' podcast with Deepak Pareek. That passion found an outlet thanks to his brother Wasim and local coach Rahul Balkar. Despite years of obscurity — "For 10 years, I was just a kabaddi player with no money or fame" — Aslam's big breakthrough came in 2019. By 2021, he was making his Pro Kabaddi League debut with Puneri Paltan, soon establishing himself as a fearless raider. The economics of PKL, he believes, have transformed not only players' lives but also the perception of the sport. "If a PKL player gets Rs 2 crores continuously over three-four seasons, it means he earns at least INR 8 crores… This changes a person's life and the way the sport is being viewed," Aslam says. But success came with setbacks. After captaining Puneri to their maiden PKL title in Season 10 and being named Most Valuable Player, he suffered a major injury in Season 11. Doubts about his comeback swirled. "People said I won't be able to play at that level again. But I don't pay attention to negativity. I believe in myself more than anything else," he says. It is this mindset — equal parts calm and determined — that defines Aslam. "I don't take life too seriously. I live in the present. Whatever you do, do it openly, enjoy every moment," he says with a smile. Consistency, he believes, is the real test of a sportsperson. "Getting success is easy. Keeping it is the hardest thing. Many players shine for a year and disappear. For me, it's about hard work plus smart work. That's what keeps you at the top." He credits much of his growth to Puneri Paltan's ecosystem and his mentor Ashok Shinde. "Every player hears advice from hundreds of people. But in life, you must listen to one person you trust completely. For me, that's Ashok sir. He always told me — I'll make you a big player. And I trusted him." Today, Aslam Inamdar is not just a kabaddi champion but an inspiration for youngsters chasing big dreams from small towns. His journey is proof that hunger, discipline, and self-belief can carry you from the sidelines of a tea stall to the center stage of world sport.

Now, as per OTT play report, the film will be released on Amazon Prime Video on September 5. Kannappa is expected to find a broader audience on OTT. However, we are still waiting for the official confirmation. The narrative of Kannappa follows the dramatic spiritual transformation of Thinnadu, a fierce and rebellious tribal hunter. Initially indifferent to religious beliefs, Thinnadu's life takes a profound turn as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery and devotion, ultimately becoming a staunch follower of Lord Shiva. The film attempts to bring this mythological tale to life with grandeur, emotion, and visual spectacle. Kannappa features a star-studded ensemble, including Akshay Kumar portrays Lord Shiva, Prabhas takes on the role of Rudra, Mohanlal plays Kirata, and Kajal Aggarwal stars as Goddess Parvati. The cast also includes Preity Mukhundhan (Nemali), R. Sarathkumar (Nathanathudu), and Madhoo (Pannaga) in key roles. More about Kannappa The film's cinematography is helmed by Sheldon Chau, who captures the spiritual and mythological landscape with a visually immersive style. The elaborate sets, stylised action sequences, and divine depictions are tailored to show how the film is rooted in ancient Indian lore. Made on a massive budget of Rs 200 crore, Kannappa aimed for pan-Indian reach. Alongside the original Telugu version, the film was simultaneously released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. However, despite the scale of production and the star power involved, the theatrical performance fell short of expectations. The film earned only Rs 32 crore at the box office in India. The film's runtime of 182 minutes makes it one of the more expansive mythological dramas released in recent times.
