Market dips are a buy opportunity, not a concern: Varun Saboo

Give us your sense on what you are making of the market? Today clearly that uptick we had seen yesterday was very short-lived and that joy has already been wiped off the street. But what are you making of the trading session for the of the week and in the short term as well, any chances of an up move from here given that we have once again seen a little bit of a consolidation today?
Varun Saboo:
Honestly, I can only say that I see these corrections as an opportunity to buy. One thing is clear, if you see that, I mean you are seeing peak of negative noise being there. Iran-Israel peak of noise is there, still you are not seeing crude react beyond a point, also our markets for that matter. I think that any correction of this sort is just giving an opportunity to add into a country which is the fastest growing in the world. The consumption pattern if you see has not shifted at all. We are still seeing a discretionary spends being at peak. Auto sales going very strong. Across whatever parameters we see, the economy is doing very well.

Fortunately, infra spend has also picked up for the last six months, particularly the government spends which we saw. We have had the boost from RBI which came in in terms of a solid rate cut and then we saw a very good CRR cut also, which helps to infuse a lot of liquidity into the system.
So, from all perspectives India is looking like a solid place to invest into. I do not see any reason why we need to be worried over here. Any corrections I would strongly suggest that one should be a buyer into these markets.

Which sectors do you believe will participate the most and which sectors do you believe have that valuation comfort?
Varun Saboo:
See, one thing is clear that we are into a situation where consumption is going very strong, so your discretionary spend is where we are very bullish on. Secondly, we are very positive on any interest rate sensitive for that matter. We are clearly in a downward interest rate cycle. Despite everything inflation is remaining under control. I do not see any reason why we have to be worried on any front. The key ideas which I like currently would be one trend which is one of the best proxies to buy in terms of a strong spending pattern on the grassroot level.
I think rural is also picking up materially, so tier II, tier III is a place where you have to be in. Going to be very positive on DMart as well which has a solid asset base, the kind of stores that they have set up, the business model they have set up is brilliant, so that plays out to be very well as well. I have been speaking about Escorts being one of our key ideas. It is yet to play as in the theme, but I think Escorts is going to be the stock of the year in my view. So, these are key three picks which I would really vouch for over here.

Nepal's claim on Lipulekh neither justified nor based on historical facts: MEA
New Delhi: India on Wednesday categorically rejected Nepal's objection to a decision by New Delhi and Beijing to resume border trade through Lipulekh pass, saying Kathmandu's claims on the territory are not justified. India and China on Tuesday agreed to resume border trade through Lipulekh pass and two other trading points. The Nepalese foreign ministry on Wednesday objected to the move to resume border trade through Lipulekh pass saying the territory is an inseparable part of Nepal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like A Focus on Meeting Healthcare's Unique Needs SupplierGateway Learn More Undo In 2020, Nepal triggered a border row by issuing a political map that showed Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh as part of the country. India had strongly trashed the claims. External affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal rejected Nepal's territorial claims. Live Events "We have noted the comments of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal related to resumption of border trade between India and China through the Lipulekh pass," he said. "Our position in this regard has been consistent and clear. Border trade between India and China through Lipulekh pass had commenced in 1954 and has been going on for decades," he added. Jaiswal said the trade had been disrupted in recent years due to COVID-19 pandemic and other developments, and both sides have now agreed to resume it. "As regards territorial claims, our position remains that such claims are neither justified nor based on historical facts and evidence. Any unilateral artificial enlargement of territorial claims is untenable," he said. "India remains open to constructive interaction with Nepal on resolving agreed outstanding boundary issues through dialogue and diplomacy," he added.

Reforms, liquidity and GST cuts signal stronger second half for Indian markets: Sneha Poddar
Live Events (You can now subscribe to our (You can now subscribe to our ETMarkets WhatsApp channel "With the festive season beginning, consumption should pick up. The recent GST cut will further boost confidence, as it is expected to reduce retail prices of basic consumption items by around 5–7%. This will give a strong push to demand. From the second half of the year, we believe the markets should start improving meaningfully," says Sneha Poddar , as you rightly said, we are now entering a good phase for India. Over the last year we were in a consolidation phase where we underperformed compared to global markets. But with the reforms we've seen since the start of the year—by the RBI, by the government, and with the recent announcements—the stage is being set. In the near term, markets may continue to consolidate with a slight positive bias, though some uncertainty remains regarding US tariffs. From a medium- to long-term perspective, however, things are moving in the right direction. The overall macro environment is conducive: the monsoon has been well distributed, macro data points are positive, and the RBI has infused liquidity. With the festive season beginning, consumption should pick up. The recent GST cut will further boost confidence, as it is expected to reduce retail prices of basic consumption items by around 5–7%. This will give a strong push to demand. From the second half of the year, we believe the markets should start improving meaningfully. Electronic manufacturing is one such sector with strong compounding potential. It really came into focus post-Covid and has gained momentum over the last 2–3 years as the government has pushed the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat themes. Support has come in the form of PLI schemes and various programmes, such as the Semicon India initiative. With these reforms, the sector is receiving a big push, and companies are capitalising on the opportunity in a big way. Earnings of many companies in this space are growing between 30–50%, and this trend is likely to continue as the government remains serious about localisation. Companies engaged in consumer goods , automotive, defence, and industrial manufacturing are expected to benefit significantly. We believe electronic manufacturing is a big theme that could sustain 30–50% growth momentum over the next few terms of time correction, we might see more of it in the pharma space. There is still a lack of clarity regarding tariff announcements, and valuations are fairly high, especially for CDMO players that have already seen a good run-up. So, valuations are stretched, and combined with tariff uncertainties, we may see time correction here. However, from a long-term perspective, any correction or extended consolidation would provide opportunities to accumulate CDMO players like Laurus Labs, Biocon, and Divi's. These companies have strong pipelines and are benefiting from global CDMO opportunities. So, while current valuations are not attractive for entry, the long-term growth story remains GST cut announcement is a big boost for consumption. Within this space, FMCG will benefit the most since it caters to the mass and value segments where the slab change impact will be clearly visible. In discretionary items, the benefits will be selective. For instance, footwear priced below ₹1,000 and garments priced above ₹1,000 will see gains. On the other hand, liquor and cigarette companies, which fall in the higher tax slab, will face a negative impact. Overall, FMCG companies will benefit significantly. With a well-distributed monsoon, rural demand has already picked up, and urban demand, which was struggling, will also see a boost due to the GST cut. FMCG earnings, which were stagnant over the last two years, should revive in the second automobiles, the GST cut will benefit four-wheelers and three-wheelers the most. Two-wheelers will also gain, but the impact will be limited due to the ABS mandate. Entry-level cars and non-SUV segments, in particular, are likely to benefit in a big way.
