Baby among 5 killed as family of 4 dies in KZN head-on collision
A devastating head-on collision claimed the lives of five people, including two young children, last night on the R66 near the Dokodweni Bridge in KwaGingindlovu, KZN.
According to The North Coast Courier, the crash between a light motor vehicle and a bakkie left seven others seriously injured.
Among the deceased are a family of four – a mother, father, their three-year-old child and a two-month-old baby – and a fifth passenger. They were travelling from Nongoma to Durban when their vehicle, a Hyundai i10, was involved in the crash.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Samantha Meyrick confirmed the occupants of the bakkie – two adults and two children – were also seriously injured.
'Advanced life support paramedics stabilised the critically injured before transporting them to nearby medical facilities for further treatment. Emergency services worked tirelessly to manage the scene,' said Meyrick.
She extended thanks to the uMlalazi and Mandeni Fire Departments, additional ambulance services and the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) in Gingindlovu for their co-ordinated efforts during the rescue operation.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
Meanwhile, Zululand Observer reports KZN MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma has expressed condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.

Not the first child: What happened to Tiffany Meek's newborn baby?
Tiffany Meek – the mother of Jayden-Lee Meek – lost her first child, a newborn baby boy, years before he was conceived. The circumstances of the infant's death have resurfaced amid her charges of murder, defeating the ends of justice and crimen injuria. Jayden-Lee's body was discovered just metres away from his doorstep on the morning of 14 May. He had suffered a blunt force head injury. In a TikTok video posted earlier this year, Tiffany Meek paid tribute to her firstborn son, Kaiyle Levi Dunn, who was born on 10 August 2012. Sadly, the baby boy died just two days later. [Videos] Roodepoort mother accused of killing son: Police describe chilling evidence
The bail application of Tiffany Nicole Meek (31), the mother accused of murdering her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee Meek, will continue tomorrow after a day of shocking evidence was presented in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court. Roodepoort Record reports that during today's court appearance, a state witness, a detective from the Florida police who is also the investigating officer in the case, took the stand and detailed the events from the time Jayden-Lee was reported missing to the arrest of his mother. According to his testimony, the deceased's school bag, shoes and red school jacket were found at Unit 13, where Meek resides. It was further revealed that Jayden-Lee's body was discovered shortly after Meek left the complex in the early hours of May 14 at about 05:00. 'When officers observed the deceased's body at Discovery Clinic, they noticed injuries to the forehead, chin and lips, which were bleeding. The deceased also had bruises on the neck, arms and right leg,' the detective testified. He added that a pillow found in Meek's unit contained blood droplets. These were sealed for forensic testing and later confirmed to match the deceased's blood. 'After the post-mortem, it was revealed that the cause of death was a blunt force injury to the head,' he said. Meek's affidavit, read by her defence attorney Noven Naidoo, claimed that police officers had refused to search her unit because they lacked a search warrant. However, the investigating officer disputed this. 'The accused kept diverting police officers to other locations and refused to let them near her unit. In a case as sensitive as this, police would have proceeded with a search even without a warrant,' he explained. 'It also doesn't make sense that the accused spent the night at her mother's house when she knew the child was missing and could have returned at any time.' Unlike previous appearances, proceedings were calmer, with no demonstrations outside the court. Meek remains in custody. Owen Meek, cousin of Jayden-Lee Meek's father, briefed the community on how they feel.
