The Los Angeles Dodgers' recent swoon has been as fascinating as it's been completely unpredictable.
Though they have the best roster in Major League Baseball on paper, the Dodgers have been mediocre at best, and bordering on awful. They entered Wednesday 12-20 since July 4, which is the fifth-worst record in the game over that stretch.
A 7-6 walk-off loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night represented a low point of sorts. The Dodgers have lost all five games of the Freeway Series this year, and more importantly, they've lost their lead in the division.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MAY 14: Manager Dave Roberts #30 of the Los Angeles Dodgers during a 9-3 win over the Athletics at Dodger Stadium on May 14, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. Thanks to the San Diego Padres' win over the San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers shared first place with the Friars at 68-52 entering Wednesday. It's the first time since 2010 that San Diego has had at least a share of first place after the All-Star break.
The message is clear for the Dodgers right now: Start winning games, or we won't be tied with these surging Padres for very long.
"Now it's a new season," Roberts said, per Dennis Lin of The Athletic. "You look at the standings, and we just got to play better baseball and find ways to win games."
Tuesday night's game was a roller coaster, as Shohei Ohtani hit into an inning-ending triple play, then responded with a go-ahead home run in his next at-bat. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, Alex Vesia gave up the lead on three walks and a sacrifice fly.
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman is hoping to quickly turn the page.
"It's just how you weather it," Freeman said, per Sonja Chen of MLB.com. "How you respond and come back the next day. ... See how we respond (Wednesday). Shohei on the mound -- so see if he can throw nine innings and hit seven home runs."
That series finale against the Angels will begin Wednesday at 6:38 p.m. PT from Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

Swindon Town issue update after fan disorder at Walsall

Swindon Town have issued an update on their investigation into an incident of fan disorder during their opening day match at Walsall. Towards the end of their 2-1 defeat at the Pallet Track Bescot Stadium, a chair was allegedly thrown at Saddler's goalkeeper Myles Roberts, abuse was directed at stewards, staff, players and match officials, and there was use of pyrotechnics. Swindon Town issued a statement condemning the incident and said that they would conduct a 'full and thorough investigation', working closely with Walsall and West Midlands Police to identify those responsible. On August 13, Swindon Town issued a further statement to update supporters on the progress of their investigation. The statement said: 'As of yesterday, Wiltshire Police are awaiting details from West Midlands Police. We are also expecting to receive a number of images from the match, which will assist us in the process of identifying the individuals involved — who, it appears, are currently unknown to the police. 'Our stance remains clear: anyone found to have engaged in such behaviour will face the strictest possible sanctions, including banning orders and, where appropriate, legal action. 'We continue to work closely with Walsall Football Club, both police forces, and other relevant authorities to ensure those responsible are held to account. 'Once again, we thank the overwhelming majority of Swindon Town supporters who continue to follow the team with passion, respect, and in the right way. We urge everyone to play their part in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment at all fixtures, home and away.' Ian Holloway was equally outraged by the incident when he spoke to the press after the match. He said: 'I am here to represent my wonderful football club in a way that is courteous in defeat, tenacious as well, I want to fight for things, but you don't rip out a seat and throw it at someone. 'I wouldn't want Walsall thinking that about all of us, so anyone who stood next to them, I want them dobbed in because that's not right. 'These people creep into football, and no one does anything about it. I am standing up for Swindon Town, a magnificent club, and we don't want anything to do with this. 'Whoever you are, you should be ashamed of yourself. I am going to hunt you down and find you.'
