The new airline launching in one of Asia's set-to-be-big holiday destinations – and could start flights to the UK
Plus, read more about South Korea from one Sun Writer who went there last year ON THE UP ON THE UP The new airline launching in one of Asia's set-to-be-big holiday destinations – and could start flights to the UK Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A NEW airline is launching its first flight in one of the top trending Asian destinations this year. Parata Air is a South Korean low-cost airline that has plans to operate between Gimpo, Jeju, and Yangyang starting later this month - and has revealed plans for flights to Europe too. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 Parata Air has its first plane in Gimpo International Airport Credit: Parata Airlines 5 Seoul is the capital of South Korea - a country that's becoming popular with Brits Credit: Alamy In early August, 2025, Parata Airlines introduced the first plane through Gimpo International Airport in western Seoul. The airline's first aircraft is an A330-200 model which has the potential to fly long-distance routes to the likes of Europe and North America. Currently, Parata Airlines has lease agreements for a total of four aircraft. These are two Airbus A330-200s and two Airbus A320-200s - its aim is to operate short-haul, as well as medium-to-long-haul flights from Seoul. Along with its domestic routes, Parata Air aims to launch international routes from Incheon to Japan and Vietnam. Talking to Maeil Business Newspaper, Yoon Chul-min, CEO of Parata Airlines, said, "Based on our top priority, safety first, we will create differentiated values with punctuality and service that we have devoted our heart to. "We need to become an airline that makes us expect excitement and pleasure and become a new challenger in the aviation market." Parata Air was formerly known as Fly Gangwon which ceased operations in May 2023 after financial difficulty. Prior to that, Fly Gangwon flew to Tokyo, Clark in the Philippines as well as locations in Taiwan and Vietnam. While they haven't officially confirmed UK flights, Europe could be one of the long haul destinations, especially as Korean culture becomes more popularised. I went to the unusual holiday destination to be big in 2024 with direct flights, scrapped visas and cheap booze South Korea is becoming a bucket list destination for Brits. The capital, Seoul, was crowned the world's best solo travel destination by Tripadvisor in its Travellers' Choice Awards. Brits are enjoying the culture more too with the rise of K-pop, kimchee and makeup trends like 'glass skin'. The good news for UK citizens is that you can enter South Korea without a visa for up to 90 days. Previously, Brits had to pay for the K-ETA, a visa waiver, but this has been scrapped until December 31, 2025. Even then the price of the waiver is just 10,000 KRW which equates to £5.43. 5 Inside looks bright and airy with beige and blue seats Credit: Parata 5 South Korea has blossom season and is known for certain trends Credit: Alamy It will also be easier for Brits to get to Virgin Atlantic which will launch daily flights to Seoul from March 29, 2026. The overnight London Heathrow-Seoul flights will take off at 9:45am, landing at 6:05am the following day. The return flight will take off at 8:35am and land at 3:05pm the same day. The expansion to the Asian country will also allow connecting routes to destination like Japan, Vietnam and China. If you don't want to go as far as South Korea - here's a London suburb that's been compared to it with restaurants and karaoke bars. And more on the world's best airline, Korean Air that has new onboard suites and a unique 'honeymoon mode'. One Sun Travel Writer visited South Korea last year and here's what she found... Deputy Travel Editor Kara Godfrey visited South Korea last year where she visited the capital city as well as Gyeongbokgung Palace. The country's capital city lies just 35 miles from the border with North Korea. Start early and visit Gyeongbokgung Palace - we were there by 9am in time for the 10am changing of the guard performance, a 20-minute event that recreates the original ceremony. A bottle of local beer can be found for just a few pounds - and we made sure to add some soju, a local rice wine, to your beer too. And a visit to Korea is nothing without a K-pop dance class, where we danced to New Jeans at Frzm Studio, before partying into the early morning at a karaoke booth, also known as noraebang. The second largest city in South Korea is Busan, found on the south coast. Yet is is easy to get to, with a day trip from Seoul simple thanks to a high speed train taking between 2-3 hours. And Instagrammers can rejoice thanks to the Gamcheon Culture Village, dubbed the Machu Picchu of Korea due to the many multicoloured, photogenic houses lining the cliff side.

Normal-looking bungalow hits market for £200,000 – but buyers are baffled by bizarre kitchen feature
Secret passageway behind a bookcase adds even more mystery to the home MUM'S THE WORD Normal-looking bungalow hits market for £200,000 – but buyers are baffled by bizarre kitchen feature Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A NORMAL-looking bungalow has gone viral after baffled house-hunters spotted one very unexpected detail lurking inside. The home, located in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, was originally listed for £200,000—but it wasn't the price that had people doing double takes. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 6 Despite the eccentric interior, the home eventually sold for £145,000 Credit: TikTok/housinghorrors2.0/Burchell Edwards 6 A third chimed in: 'The most shocking part is the house's price' Credit: TikTok/housinghorrors2.0/Burchell Edwards The property, located just minutes from Kings Mill Hospital and close to shops, schools, and transport links, features two double bedrooms, one bathroom, a spacious lounge with bay window, kitchen, utility area, conservatory, and solid oak flooring throughout. TikToker @ellesehome shared a clip of the quirky property, captioning it: 'Whose Nan's house is this and why has she got Tutankhamuns tomb in the kitchen???' Images from the listing showed golden statues, hieroglyphs, ancient-style murals and even a sarcophagus-style cabinet that had people flooding the comments section in disbelief. One user wrote: 'When I start playing Animal Crossing and put the random gifts my villagers give me in my house to fill space.' Another questioned: 'Better question where's the fridge?' A third chimed in: 'The most shocking part is the house's price.' Someone else cheekily defended the design: 'God forbid a woman likes a bit of archaeology.' Despite the eccentric interior, the home eventually sold for £145,000. But this isn't the only property recently to leave Brits scratching their heads. In Rhyl, a perfectly normal-looking terraced house turned heads with an unexpected interior twist, featuring secret design elements that left even estate agents stunned. Meanwhile in West Lothian, a home dubbed 'Britain's darkest house' hit the market for £195,000. The entire property — walls, floors, ceilings, doors, decking and even the shed — was painted black, both inside and out. Then there's the skinny slice of living in west London, one of the UK's narrowest homes, squeezed between a clinic and salon. The five-storey property was recently listed for rent at £2,950 a month, despite only being just over six feet wide in places. Over in Hastings, a Victorian house gave house-hunters the creeps with its gothic interior. Priced at nearly £900,000, it featured eerie green walls, faun statues lifting children carved into fireplaces, and thunderbox toilets. And if you fancy going completely off the grid, you could head to Kinver Edge in Staffordshire, where homes are literally carved into sandstone cliffs. These cave dwellings, once fully inhabited, are now a National Trust attraction — though they're a reminder that the UK has long had a love affair with unusual homes. 6 A sarcophagus-style cabinet especially stunned viewers, sparking disbelief in the comments Credit: TikTok/housinghorrors2.0/Burchell Edwards 6 Golden statues, hieroglyphs, and ancient-style murals gave the home a museum-like feel Credit: TikTok/housinghorrors2.0/Burchell Edwards 6 But this isn't the only property recently to leave Brits scratching their heads Credit: TikTok/housinghorrors2.0/Burchell Edwards 6 This Stoke-on-Trent home was listed for £200,000 Credit: Google maps

Jet2 and Ryanair issue stark warning to passengers due to fly this week
The Met Office has issued two weather warnings for Monday, August 4, as the UK is battered by Storm Floris, with Jet2 and Ryanair issuing warnings for passengers due to fly today Jet2 and Ryanair have issued alerts for travellers scheduled to depart today as Storm Floris pounds the UK with fierce winds. The Met Office has put two weather warnings in place for Monday, August 4, with the ferocious wind and rain threatening to put a dampener on school holiday getaways. An amber wind warning has been issued, with it running for 13 hours from 10am today across northern and central Scotland. Gusts are due to reach 50 or 60mph. A yellow alert has also been declared for Northern England, Northern Ireland, North Wales and Scotland with winds of 40 to 50mph predicted, while exposed coastal regions and elevated areas could see gusts hitting 70mph. The warning took effect at 6am today and runs until midnight. The alert has been issued as Brits are warned to keep their windows closed today. Have you had your travel plans impacted by the weather? Email webtravel@ The Met Office cautions that transport, including air travel, may be disrupted by the conditions, "with longer journey times and cancellations possible." Jet2 has confirmed that services should run as planned, but urged customers to allow extra time for airport arrival. In a statement posted online, Jet2 warned: "The Met Office has advised that Storm Floris is expected to bring adverse weather conditions, including strong winds to Northern parts of the UK. "All flights are expected to operate as scheduled, so please ensure you leave plenty of time to arrive at your departure airport. Our check-in opens 2 hours before this time and will close 40 minutes prior to departure time. "If your flight is affected, we will have the later updates here and also via SMS, email and the Jet2 app. You can log into Manage my Booking to ensure your details are correct. We look forward to welcoming you on board." Ryanair has stated that it is "monitoring potential disruptions to flights" and will notify any passengers who may be affected. In a notice posted on its website, Ryanair advised: "Please be advised that we are monitoring potential disruptions to flights to/from the UK on Monday August 4 due to storm Floris. Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from the UK on Monday August 4 should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight. "We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by these weather conditions, which are outside of Ryanair's control and affect all airlines operating to/from the UK on Monday, August 4." If you are unsure if your flight will be delayed or cancelled, check with your airline. For those travelling within the UK today, or taking a train to the airport, there may be disruptions on the rails. Several train operators have issued 'do not travel' notices because of the risk of disruption caused by debris on the line, fallen trees and flooding. Hundreds of trains have been cancelled so fast today, including all services north of Edinburgh and Glasgow from midday. Dozens of ferries have also been cancelled. In Scotland, where the storms are expected to be the strongest, a nationwide speed limit of 50mph has been imposed, which will extend journey times and cause cancellations.
