Shane Lowry set to go toe-to-toe with golfer that ''p*ssed me off"

Shane Lowry will go toe-to-toe with old rival Patrick Cantlay in the third round of the BMW Championship, having previously said how the American 'p*ssed me off' during their Ryder Cup singles match.
The pair met in the Covid-disrupted 2021 Ryder Cup, where Cantlay beat Lowry 4&2 en route to a record Team USA win.
Shortly after the tournament, Lowry voiced his frustration with Cantlay, saying, 'Patrick Cantlay p*ssed me off on the 8th hole if I'm honest. He was riling up the crowd whilst I was lining up my putt annoyed me quite a lot, and I didn't feel that it was good from him, but it is what it is."
Fast forward to 2023, and Lowry clashed with Cantlay's caddie Joe LaCava after he continued to wave his hat near Rory McIlroy as the Northern Irish golfer lined up a putt on the 18th hole of his fourball match with the putt for a half of the match.
"Hey Joe, get out of the way, you p****," Lowry told La Cava at the time while also telling him to 'f*** off'.
La Cava turned to Lowry and told him to "Shut the f*** up." The tense encounter led to wild scenes as an irate Rory McIlroy lost his cool in the car park afterwards. Shane Lowry and Joe LaCava in 2023
Lowry and Cantlay will tee it up at 5:01 p.m. as they look to make a surge on moving day. It is unlikely there will be any great drama between the pair today.
Even though the race to the FedEx Cup is among the most lucrative few paydays in golf, all attention turns to the Ryder Cup.
Scotland's Bob MacIntyre sits top at 14-under-par while world number one Scottie Scheffler is nine-under-par. Team Europe's Ludvig Aberg and Tommy Fleetwood are hitting good form at the right time, with both players in the top five.
After taking last week off, Rory McIlroy sits in the middle of the pack in 11th place with a late eagle boosting him up the leaderboard to sit at four-under-par, some 10 shots off the lead and five shots behind Scheffler.
Shane Lowry is on one under par and will likely feature in next week's Tour Championship, while a strong finish could earn him automatic qualification to Team Europe.

Rasmus Højgaard blows Ryder Cup opportunity as Marco Penge wins in Denmark

Rasmus Højgaard looked to be cruising to a place in the European Ryder Cup team and second win at the Danish Golf Championship in three years before he let a four-shot lead slip to Marco Penge. The 24-year-old would have got into the automatic qualification spots with a victory at Furesø Golfklub, but was left to rue errors and inspired play by Penge, who sealed his second DP World Tour win of the season. The Englishman shot a four-under-par 67 which included birdies on his final two holes to beat Højgaard by a shot on 16 under. Højgaard managed to get an impressive eagle on the par 5 18th to force Penge to hole a three-footer for victory, but it was too little too late for the Dane. Højgaard began the round with a one-shot lead over Penge and started his round in inspired form with an eagle on the par 5 third after an approach to three feet and followed it up with birdies at the fourth and sixth holes. Then the wheels came off with three bogeys and a double bogey at the par 3 ninth where he failed to make the green from a greenside bunker and took three more to get home. READ MORE Penge left the door ajar with his only bogey of the day at the 16th, but responded with a brilliant approach to two feet for birdie at the penultimate hole to restore his two-shot advantage heading into the 72nd hole. 'I've been playing so well this year,' Penge said. 'You know, coming back from my time off, to have won so soon [after that] and to achieve what I've achieved since I won. 'My main goal after I won was to not get complacent and drop off basically. My team have been a massive support for me, my family, everyone involved really. 'It's made me keep striving for more and this is amazing. And Rasmus, he's some player, to hit the shot he hit into the last and make eagle and basically make me have to win it was unbelievable.' Penge has moved up to 14th in Ryder Cup rankings after an impressive year on the DP World Tour which includes a win in China and a tied second-place finish at the Scottish Open. Another win next week at the British Masters, the final qualifying event, would give Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald something to think about. Højgaard will get another chance to make the team automatically at The Belfry.

Scheffler slams Irish golf fans for comments 'that were very far over the line'

Scottie Scheffler has hit out at Northern Irish golf supporters for overstepping the mark with remarks made during last month's Open Championship. The world No. 1 secured his second major of the season at Royal Portrush with a total of 17-under-par, despite facing a hostile crowd who were there to cheer on Rory McIlroy during his triumphant homecoming following his Career Grand Slam completion at the Masters in Augusta earlier this year. Whilst Scheffler maintained that the abuse he endured on hostile turf didn't affect his performance, he suggested some spectators went too far with their aggressive behaviour. Following the third round of the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club, the 29 year old remarked that the atmosphere was mild compared to what he experienced in Northern Ireland. He said: "I didn't see any of that. I played with Bob [MacIntyre] when we were in Scotland. I heard some fairly choice words when I was leading the tournament in Ireland," reports Belfast Live. "I think it's part of it. People have a tendency to say things that are dumb. I can think of a few things that were said to me in the final round in Ireland that were very far over the line. "If you're a fan, it's only going to fire the guy up more, and I think just do your best to behave out there. It can be a little bit silly sometimes." If Scheffler's performance in Portrush was anything to go by, then the remarks certainly sparked something within him that enabled him to raise his game considerably. That's considering he completed the tournament four strokes ahead of his nearest rival, Harris English. McIlroy was regrettably unable to secure back-to-back major championships in 2025 at the Open, finishing in a tie for seventh alongside Xander Schauffele and MacIntyre with a combined score of 10-under. This comes as Scottish rising star MacIntyre has expressed his frustration at some of the remarks he has encountered from American spectators at this week's BMW Championship in Maryland. The 29 year old was leading the field going into the fourth and final round of the competition at 16-under, four shots ahead of second-placed Scheffler. When asked about how a particularly loud spectator on the 14th impacted him, he responded: "Yeah, he was just jeering. He was just shouting I missed it, he's pushed it. Pushed it right in the middle of the hole, I guess." Furthermore, MacIntyre also revealed that supporters were making noise from the moment he approached the first tee-box, stating: "I mean, it started on the first tee. It probably started when I walked down to the range. "It ain't bothering me. It's there. As long as they don't do it within... if they do it outside the shot, it's fair game, but don't do it within the shot that's going to affect myself or Scottie." When questioned whether it motivates him to hear people criticising him around the greens and fairways, he added: "100 percent. It can go two ways. "But look, I grew up all my days amateur golf being the one on the outside looking in, faced not fitting, really fighting for it. What we say in the team, it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog, and I grew up fighting to be in this position."

Shane Lowry's worrying slump continues at BMW Championship as Bethpage Black Ryder Cup looms large

Irish ace slides out of automatic qualifying spots after string of poor finishes as outsiders push for shock call-up SHANE LOWRY'S recent slump in form has come at a concerning time for the Irishman. Lowry, who is currently in action at the FedEx Cup penultimate tournament at the BMW Championship hasn't found a top-40 finish in his last four events. 2 Shane Lowry has failed to crack a top 40 spot in his last 4 events prior to this week's BMW 2 Luke Donald could be concerned with the Irishman's slump in form Advertisement The world number 20 is currently T32 of 48 as he negotiates his final round at Caves Valley in Maryland. Clara native Lowry's dip has also seen him plummet ten places in the Official World Golf Ranking. Last week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Lowry's form took another nosedive - he slumped to 59th, dropping from fifth to seventh in the Ryder Cup rankings. His finish in Tennessee followed a T40 at The Open, T45 at the Travelers and a missed cut at the US Open. Advertisement And Ryder Cup skipper Luke Donald will be alarmed by the lack of form as the 2019 Open winner slipped out of the automatic qualifying places for the Bethpage Black showdown next month. 38-year-old Lowry will be expected by many to earn another captain's selection from the Englishman. But it many not be nailed on, as a number of European 'outsiders' have found form - especially Harry Hall - who Rory McIlroy hinted could be a shock inclusion. The English golfer has six top 20s in his last ten tournaments and showed real consistency since his maiden win on the PGA Tour at last year's ISCO Championship. Advertisement Lowry's stunning early season form will see him into next week's Tour Championship at East Lake - where only the top 30 will compete for the revamped end-of-season decider. Ireland's Lowry will be hoping for a better showing in Georgia as he targeted the Ryder Cup as his number one goal for the season. The top six players in the rankings after the Betfred British Masters, hosted by Nick Faldo on Sunday, 24 August, will secure automatic qualification, with three spots already locked in. Captain Luke Donald will then confirm his six wildcard selections for the Ryder Cup during the week beginning Monday, 1 September.
