Left questions U.S., Israel justification that Iran is developing nuclear weapons
In a strongly worded statement, the district units of the CPI(M), the CPI and the SUCI(C) in Kalaburagi criticised the move as an act of imperialist aggression aimed at destabilising West Asia and asserting Western dominance over the region's strategic resources.
The statement, released by CPI(M) district secretary K. Neela, CPI district secretary Mahesh Rathod K.R. and SUCI-C district secretary Veerabhadrappa, noted that the United States and Israel have justified the strike on the grounds of Iran developing nuclear weapons.
However, it pointed out that Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi clearly stated on June 19 that there is no evidence of Iran making any systematic attempt to build nuclear weapons. And, even the U.S. intelligence agencies have admitted to lacking concrete proof, it added.
Despite Iran being a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the U.S., having withdrawn from the agreement, continues to escalate tensions, the Left leaders said.
They added that the June 12 Israeli airstrike on Iran was deliberately aimed at derailing any possible diplomatic talks between the two nations. While U.S. President Donald Trump earlier proposed a two-week window for dialogue, the joint attack reveals what they called a clear intention to provoke conflict in the region.
The Left said that the actual aim behind such military action is to establish imperialist control over West Asia, destroy Iran's autonomy and secure access to vital resources.
The leaders further said that the strike serves the interests of the global military-industrial complex and international capitalist forces which are struggling to recover from a prolonged crisis.
The statement compared the current situation to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, also based on unverified claims, which was later proven baseless. The use of B-2 stealth bombers in the recent Iran attack mirrors the previous aggressive actions and shows a dangerous disregard for diplomacy, they said.
Calling the U.S. position hypocritical, the Left leaders pointed out that it remains the only country to have used nuclear weapons, despite lecturing others about nuclear threats. The airstrike, they said, can severely intensify the conflict, threaten global peace and have disastrous consequences for ordinary people, particularly in countries like India, which are heavily dependent on oil imports and West Asian employment.
The Left parties urged the Union government to immediately abandon its pro-U.S. and pro-Israel foreign policy stance and instead, join global efforts to halt the conflict. They announced that protest actions will be organised and appealed to peace-loving citizens of India to stand in solidarity with them denouncing imperialist aggression.

Microsoft reviewing Israeli army's use of its tech amid worker protests
Worker-led protests erupted at Microsoft headquarters this week as the tech company promises an 'urgent' review of the Israeli military's use of its technology during the ongoing war in Gaza. A "Stop Starving Gaza" sign during a protest at the Microsoft Campus in Redmond, Washington as employees rallied at the company to increase pressure on the software maker to stop doing business with Israel.(Bloomberg) A second day of protests at the Microsoft campus on Wednesday called for the tech giant to immediately cut its business ties with Israel. A spokesperson for the Redmond Police Department confirmed that several protesters have been arrested. Microsoft late last week said it was tapping a law firm to investigate allegations reported by British newspaper The Guardian that the Israeli Defense Forces used Microsoft's Azure cloud computing platform to store phone call data obtained through the mass surveillance of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. 'Microsoft's standard terms of service prohibit this type of usage," the company said in a statement posted Friday, adding that the report raises 'precise allegations that merit a full and urgent review.' The company said it will share the findings after law firm Covington & Burling completes its review. The promised review was insufficient for the employee-led No Azure for Apartheid group, which for months has protested Microsoft's supplying the Israeli military with technology used for its war against Hamas in Gaza. In February, The Associated Press revealed previously unreported details about the American tech giant's close partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Defense, with military use of commercial AI products skyrocketing by nearly 200 times after the deadly Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack. The AP reported that the Israeli military uses Azure to transcribe, translate and process intelligence gathered through mass surveillance, which can then be cross-checked with Israel's in-house AI-enabled targeting systems. Following The AP's report, Microsoft acknowledged the military applications but said a review it commissioned found no evidence that its Azure platform and artificial intelligence technologies were used to target or harm people in Gaza. Microsoft did not share a copy of that review or say who conducted it. Microsoft in May fired an employee who interrupted a speech by CEO Satya Nadella to protest the contracts, and in April, fired two others who interrupted the company's 50th anniversary celebration.

Russia says resolving Ukraine security issues without Moscow is 'road to nowhere'
Russia dismissed attempts to solve Ukraine's security issues without Moscow's participation as a "road to nowhere," sending a sharp warning to Western countries as talks intensify over Kyiv's future Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday singled out European leaders who met US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on Monday to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine aimed at ending the three-and-a-half-year cannot agree with the fact that now it is proposed to resolve questions of security, collective security, without the Russian Federation. This will not work," Lavrov said during a joint news conference following talks with the foreign minister of Jordan. "I am sure that in the West and above all in the United States they understand perfectly well that seriously discussing security issues without the Russian Federation is a utopia, it's a road to nowhere," he FOR UKRAINE SECURITYAccording to news agency Reuters, American and European military planners have begun exploring post-conflict security guarantees for Ukraine. Kyiv's European partners are planning to establish a force to reinforce any peace deal, with around 30 countries -- including European states, Japan, and Australia -- pledging their support for the effort. Lavrov dismissed these talks without Moscow's involvement as meaningless, stressing that any lasting security framework would require Russia's remarks came as tensions escalated along Nato's eastern flank. Polish authorities said an object that crashed in a cornfield in eastern Poland overnight was likely a Russian drone. Poland accused Moscow of deliberately provoking Nato countries at a critical moment in peace negotiations."Once again, we are dealing with a provocation by the Russian Federation, with a Russian drone. We are dealing in a crucial moment, when discussions about peace (in Ukraine) are underway," Polish Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz NATO TROOPS IN UKRAINELavrov reiterated Moscow's rejection of any scenarios involving the deployment of Nato troops in Ukraine. Russia has been demanding that Western governments engage directly with it on security matters affecting Ukraine and also lashed out at European leaders for their role in the White House meeting, calling their actions "a fairly aggressive escalation of the situation, rather clumsy and, in general, unethical attempts to change the position of the Trump administration and the president of the United States personally." Lavrov added, "We did not hear any constructive ideas from the Europeans there."On Monday, Trump said that the United States would help guarantee Ukraine's security in any deal to end the war. He later clarified that US troops would not be sent on the ground in Ukraine, although air support could be part of an agreement to halt Nato military leaders held a video conference on Wednesday to review the outcomes of recent talks on Ukraine. Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chair of the alliance's military committee, described the session as "a great, candid discussion," emphasising that the priority remained "a just, credible and durable peace."PUTIN'S 2022 'PEACE PROPOSAL'Lavrov proposed that truly reliable security guarantees for Ukraine could be modelled on a draft accord discussed in Istanbul in 2022 during the early weeks of the that proposal, Ukraine would have received security assurances from countries including the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- China, Russia, the United States, Britain, and the time, Kyiv rejected the draft on the grounds that Moscow would effectively hold veto power over any military response, raising concerns over the effectiveness of the guarantees.- EndsWith inputs from agenciesMust Watch
