2026 4-star WR and Notre Dame commit sends glowing message to Texas A&M's coaching staff

USA Today11 hours ago
Nothing is shocking in the new age of college football recruiting after the new NIL rules took effect, providing every Power Four program a shot at landing elite prospects, including last week's surprising decision from 2026 five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo, who committed to Texas Tech over the Texas Longhorns, who were the favorites throughout his recruiting process.
Again, as shocking as Ojo's choice was, the monetary benefits the Red Raiders provided were too much to turn down in today's landscape, and no one, outside of some angry Texas fans, is blaming the young man for taking the more lucrative route.
On Friday, Texas A&M, Texas, and several blue-blood programs missed out on landing 2026 four-star wide receiver Kaydon Finley, the son of former Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley, who committed to Notre Dame.
Notre Dame had been the favorite for quite some time, but what stood out was Finley's social media post two days after his announcement, thanking the coaching staffs from Texas, Arizona State, and Texas A&M for their support during his recruitment journey. After his official visit to College Station on June 6, Finley recognized coach Mike Elko, OC Collin Klein, and WR coach Holmon Wiggins for their leadership throughout the process.
"It was tough stepping into enemy territory, being born in a Longhorn family" Finley stated. "But Coach Elko, Coach Klein and Coach Wiggins did everything they could to make me feel welcome. Coach Wiggins is serious when it comes to film breakdown and player development. One of the best I've seen. Through his recruitment, I've learned just how special a place A&M truly is."
This is just another example of a wide receiver prospect heaping praise on Holmon Wiggins, who will enter his second season coaching the Aggie wideouts. This group should improve with the influx of talent this offseason.
During his 2024 junior season, Finley hauled in 81 receptions for 1,432 yards and 21 touchdowns at Aledo HS (TX).

DALLAS — The Dallas Wings will try again showcasing a Caitlin Clark-Paige Bueckers matchup at the home of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks. The Wings said Monday the club is moving the Aug. 1 game against Clark and the Indiana Fever to American Airlines Center. Luke Kornet's Boston Celtics exit is now official

It's official: Luke Kornet has signed with the San Antonio Spurs. The franchise released the information regarding his deal on Monday, July 7, marking his arrival with the Texas-based franchise. According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, Kornet's deal is structured to decline in value throughout the four years. His initial season will pay $11 million, followed by $10.45 million, $9.9 million (with $2.55 million non-guaranteed) and finally $9.35 million non-guaranteed. Kornet's contract with San Antonio marks a significant pay rise for the 2024 championship-winning center. Over the past two years, he's proven to be one of the best backup bigs in the NBA. By moving to the Spurs, he will provide genuine support for Victor Wembanyama while also ensuring the Spurs front line has considerable size across the board. Kornet played in 73 games for the Boston Celtics last season. He averaged six points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 66.8% from the field. However, most of his impact came outside of the boxscore, with his screening, short-roll creation and rim-protection all creating a positive contribution. With Al Horford yet to make a decision regarding his free agency, Kornet's departure, and Kristaps Porzingis' trade to the Atlanta Hawks, the Celtics frontcourt is looking rather thin. Brad Stevens still has enough time to make some further moves, if he deems necessary, though. Watch the "Taylor Talks Celtics" podcast on: YouTube: Website:

Wings move another potential Clark-Bueckers matchup to the home of the Mavericks

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Wings will try again showcasing a Caitlin Clark-Paige Bueckers matchup at the home of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks. The Wings said Monday the club is moving the Aug. 1 game against Clark and the Indiana Fever to American Airlines Center. What was supposed to be the first matchup of the past two No. 1 picks in the WNBA draft was held at the AAC on June 27. Clark missed the Fever's 94-86 victory with a groin injury. Bueckers scored 27 points, the second-highest total of her rookie season. If Clark returns this week from the groin injury that has sidelined her the past five games, the first meeting with Bueckers could come Sunday at Indianapolis. Despite Clark's absence last month, the Wings' first game at the home of the Mavs drew 20,409 fans. It was the eighth regular-season game in WNBA history to draw at least 20,000. Included in the crowd were nine-time NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving of the Mavericks, star Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons and Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft by the Mavericks last month. The Wings normally play at the 7,000-seat College Park Center on the Texas-Arlington campus, about 20 miles from downtown Dallas. The Wings, who relocated from Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2016, are planning to move into a renovated arena at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas in the next year or two. ___ AP WNBA:
