Grief engulfs villages after West Bengal bus tragedy
Motihari: An air of grief and disbelief hangs over Sarsawa village, where six residents, including two women and a minor boy, were among those killed in Friday's bus accident in West Bengal's East Burdwan district. Since news of the tragedy broke, villagers have gathered at the homes of the bereaved, offering words of comfort and silent support. The wails of mourning echo through the narrow lanes. At the gate of his thatched home, Hari Paswan sat weeping inconsolably for his wife, Surpati Devi, who had died in the crash. "She promised me she would return safely in three days," he said. In another home, the mother of Paras Sah grieved with a group of women. She collapsed twice from shock and grief, having lost her young son. With his death, the family has been left without a breadwinner. Raju Sahani of Lalbegiya village, who worked as the manager of the ill-fated bus company, has been left devastated by the deaths of his wife, Mira Devi, and their 14-year-old son, Amarjit Kumar. "I have no desire to live on this earth," he said, his face etched with despair. "I have lost everything; life has no meaning now," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like A Teaspoon Before Bed Burns Body Fat - Fit Into Your Clothes Again! gofitlifeguide Click Here Undo For some, the tragedy has also left them in helpless uncertainty. Sumitra Devi recounted how her brother had travelled from Nepal, and, along with her mother-in-law and young daughter, joined the pilgrimage. All three were seriously injured and are now in hospital in Bardhaman. "I have no money to go and see them," she said quietly, her voice barely audible over the sobs around her. From Playfulness to Dharma: 10 Quotes by Sadhguru on Krishna
Sadhguru (Photo: Sadhguru via X) On Krishna Janmashtami, devotees across Bharat celebrate not just the birth of a historical figure, but the blossoming of a unique consciousness. Krishna was not merely a man of extraordinary charm and brilliance, he embodied Leela, the path of the playful, turning every act into a celebration. Unbound by the moral codes of his time, yet anchored in the essence of Dharma, he moved through life with grace, wit, and fearless clarity. Here are 10 quotes by Sadhguru that capture the profoundness and many dimensions of Krishna - his playfulness, his leadership, his love, and his uncompromising way of being. 1. If we want to be touched by the consciousness that we refer to as Krishna, we need Leela – the path of the playful. -Sadhguru 2. What we refer to as Krishna is not a man but a certain consciousness. -Sadhguru 3. From the day Krishna was born, people were trying to kill him. Though he went through many extreme situations, he romped through his life. This is what has made Krishna such an integral part of the cultural ethos of Bharat. -Sadhguru Sadhguru (Photo: Sadhguru via X) 4. The simplicity and gracefulness with which Krishna existed, the way he approached everything around him, his gait and the balance of his body and mind – people could not take their attention and eyes away from him. -Sadhguru 5. Even when he went to war, Krishna wore a peacock feather. He was not a vain man but absolutely committed to make every aspect of his life into a celebration. Whether it was his emotion, mind, action, or clothes – he always wanted to be at his best for everyone around him. This is love. -Sadhguru 6. During his lifetime and even now, many people called Krishna a charlatan, a fake, or a smiling rogue – because he did not follow the moral codes of the day; he just did whatever would produce the appropriate result in a situation. -Sadhguru 7. When Krishna wanted to do something, he would do it the way it had to be done, no matter what anyone else said. There were many such incidents in his life which made him a natural leader among the community. -Sadhguru Sadhguru (Photo: Sadhguru via X) 8. Krishna was very compassionate with some, and absolutely ruthless with others. He both killed and nurtured when he had to. He dealt with life whichever way it needed to be dealt with, because he had no policy of his own. He is just life. -Sadhguru 9. The essence of the early part of Krishna's life was that he turned a whole community blissfully mad about him. With his very enchanting looks, his inimitable smile, his flute, and the dance in his step, he drove people into a new kind of frenzy that they had never known before. -Sadhguru 10. Krishna was acknowledged as Dharmagopta, the emperor of Dharma and righteousness, but he never ruled any kingdom, though he had the power and capability to do so. -Sadhguru Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Happy Krishna Janmashtami Wishes, , messages , and quotes !

Historic town hall in Mysuru deteriorates due to neglect
MYSURU: The historic Town Hall, officially known as the Sri Rangacharlu Memorial Hall, is fast deteriorating, with visible cracks and structural damage threatening its survival. Built over 90 years ago in memory of C. Rangacharlu, the celebrated Dewan of the erstwhile Mysuru State, the single-storey structure stands prominently near Mysuru Palace, yet suffers from years of neglect. Commissioned by the then Maharaja of Mysuru to honour Rangacharlu's leadership in steering the state out of crisis, the hall was once a proud cultural landmark. Its stage area, now partially supported by canopies, was notably used by many celebrities, including Mahatma Gandhi , to address a public gathering. Despite being under the care of the Mysuru City Corporation, restoration efforts were minimal. In 2014, then women and child welfare minister Umashree , during a review of Dasara cultural events, expressed strong displeasure over the hall's condition and directed officials to create permanent facilities, but no substantial action followed. The surroundings of the Town Hall are also in a horrible condition, and it seems corporation authorities are not concerned with taking up cleaning work. The place has become a site for all sorts of illegal activities. 'It's disheartening to see the Town Hall in such a pathetic state,' said Prof. N.S. Rangaraju, retired Professor of Ancient History and Archaeology at the University of Mysore. 'We informed the Corporation Commissioner, who assured early repairs, but nothing was done. Such neglect of a major heritage building in the heart of the city is truly unfortunate.' Repeated appeals from heritage enthusiasts have gone unanswered, leaving the future of the Town Hall uncertain. Preservationists urge urgent restoration to safeguard this cultural landmark before its condition worsens beyond repair. Speaking to TOI, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif said, 'The tender process is underway, and the work will be taken up at the earliest. I too felt very bad about the situation, but the repair involves a significant cost.' Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
