DGP holds half-yearly crime review meet
In the meeting, DGP directed all unit officers to take proactive steps to focus on economic offences organized crime, enhance visible policing, and ensure public safety. Special emphasis was laid on women and children's safety, and performance of She Teams, AHTUs and Bharosa centres.
The meeting was conducted by CID under ADG Charu Sinha, and joined by ADG LO Mahesh Bhagwat, ADG Anil Kumar, IG P& L M. Ramesh, SPs across the state, MZ IG Chandrashekhar Reddy and range DIG Tafseer Iqbal, as well as Cyberabad CPs Avinash Mohanty and Rachakonda G Sudheer Babu. The last presentation for the day was made by TGCSB Director Shikha Goel. During the review, the DGP examined crime trends, law and order situations, progress in investigation of major cases, and enforcement actions related to bodily offences, property offences, and crimes against women and children, presented by ADG CID.
The key focus areas included the performance of each districts in all crimes, crime rate analysis, enhancing conviction rates, timely filing of charge sheets, and strengthening inter-departmental coordination.
The DGP emphasized upon the use of data driven policing for crime mapping and effective crime control. He called upon all field officers to improve accountability, transparency, and service delivery at the police station level, to foster greater trust between the police and the public.

HC orders Punjab to promote inspector who fought terrorist in Dinanagar as DSP
Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana high court has directed the Punjab govt to promote an inspector with the special operations cell of Punjab Police, , who suffered bullet injuries during the 2015 terrorist attack at Dinanagar police station in Gurdaspur district, to the rank of DSP. There was a conscious decision to grant promotion which was never withdrawn or modified…This court is of the considered opinion that the petitioner was also entitled to promotion from the rank of Inspector to DSP," observed the HC while directing the state to promote Balbir Singh. In its detailed order released on Friday, the HC also observed that by giving an out-of-turn promotion as DSP to another cop, Bikramjit Singh Brar, the state has considered that an inspector may be promoted out of turn. "The appointment and promotion to the post of DSP is governed by 1959 Rules. Rule 14 empowers govt to relax any provision for the reasons to be recorded in writing," the HC has held. The HC passed these orders while allowing the plea filed by Balbir Singh, who joined Punjab Police in 1992 as an ASI and was promoted to inspector in 2011. During the Dinanagar operation, he played a key role in saving the Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police (SSP) and suffered two gunshot injuries fired from AK-47 rifles by the terrorists. He was admitted to a private hospital in Amritsar where he underwent surgery. On Aug 3, the state govt condemned the Dinanagar terrorist attack and announced a job for the next of kin of martyr cops. It was also announced to promote the injured cops to the next rank. The DGP also awarded him Prakaram Padak and Rs 50,000 monetary help on account of sustaining injuries during the encounter. Later, the state govt promoted all the cops but denied him promotion to the rank of DSP on the grounds that since he was awarded the President's Police Medal for Gallantry, he could not be promoted. On this, Balbir Singh contended that during the pendency of the petition, the state appointed another inspector, Bikramjit Singh Brar, as DSP, who was also awarded the President's Police Gallantry Award. He encountered notorious gangster Vicky Goundar on Jan 25, 2018. He was promoted by the decision of the cabinet. If the similarly situated inspector can be promoted, there is no reason to deny the benefit of promotion to the petitioner, his counsel submitted. After hearing all the parties, the HC observed that the appointment of Bikramjit Singh Brar was not as per the procedure contemplated by the 1959 Rules, whereas it was because of the decision of the council of ministers. While asking the state to promote Balbir Singh to DSP, the HC, however, made it clear that he shall not be entitled to any financial benefits for the period he was not holding the rank of DSP.

Filed breach of privilege complaint against Jharkhand officials: Nishikant Dubey after FIR against him
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Saturday (August 9, 2025) said he has filed a complaint with the Lok Sabha Speaker, alleging breach of privilege by Jharkhand officials, including the chief secretary and the DGP, after an FIR was registered against him for "hurting religious sentiments". The Jharkhand Police on Friday (August 8, 2025) said it has registered an FIR against BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey, Manoj Tiwari and others for "forcibly" entering the sanctum sanctorum of the Baba Baidyanath Temple in Deoghar on August 2 and hurting religious sentiments. "Fifty-one cases lodged against me. I have filed a case of privilege under Article 105 of the Constitution against the chief secretary, director general of police, Deoghar deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Jharkhand," Mr. Dubey posted on X. The FIR was lodged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as per a complaint by temple priest Kartik Nath Thakur for 'forcibly entering the inner shrine on August 2 between 8.45 p.m. and 9 p.m.' despite a restriction on VIP or VVIP entry during the holy month of 'Shravan' in view of a large number of devotees. "I am the trustee of Baba Baidyanath Dham as a member of Parliament, as per the law. I am in a higher position than the priest. On what basis was the FIR lodged?" he asked while speaking to reporters in Deoghar. Dubey claimed that he went to Baba Baidyanath Dham Police Station so that the police personnel could arrest him, but they refused to do so.

'I'm temple trustee, and son of Deoghar': Nishikant Dubey on 'forcible entry' row; files privilege case against 4 senior officials
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey NEW DELHI: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Saturday said he has filed a privilege case under Article 105 of the Constitution against four senior Jharkhand officials — the chief secretary, DGP, Deoghar deputy commissioner, and superintendent of police. The move comes a day after Dubey and five others, including fellow BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, were booked for allegedly forcing their way into the sanctum sanctorum of Deoghar's Baba Baidyanath Dham Temple on August 2, despite a ban on VIP entry during the holy 'Shravan' month. 'I am a trustee of the temple, born in Deoghar, and a son of the soil. It should be investigated how those who complained against me were allowed inside the sanctum sanctorum,' the Godda MP posted on X, adding that the latest FIR is one among 51 cases lodged against him. Nishikant Dubey X post Dubey stated he went to the police station to court arrest but was refused. He told reporters that as a Member of Parliament, he is 'a step ahead of the priest' in temple hierarchy. The FIR, based on a complaint by temple priest Kartik Nath Thakur, alleges that the MPs and their group entered the sanctum between 8:45 pm and 9 pm on August 2.
