Aldi selling new fruity bubble teas but shoppers startled by price

Daily Mirror13-06-2025
Two new bubble tea flavours from The Juice Company have been spotted on the shelves of Aldi – but shoppers have been left startled by the amount of sugar in them and the cost
Bubble tea is a highly popular drink in the UK now. The tea-based beverage, often containing chewy tapioca balls, milk, and flavouring, originated in Taiwan in the early 1980s.
However, it is now a staple on the UK high street and is even served by the likes of Costa Coffee. So it's no surprise that supermarket Aldi has jumped on the trend and is offering some new fruity bubble tea flavours in-store. Two new bubble tea flavours from The Juice Company were spotted on the shelves of Aldi by popular account NewFoodsUK, who shared their finding on their Facebook page.

One of these ready-to-drink flavours was passion fruit and mango, while the other was wild berry and blueberry.

However, although a lot of supermarket shoppers seemed excited about the drinks, with hundreds of people liking the post and tagging their friends in it, others were stunned by one detail – the amount of sugar in them.
The packaging showed that the drinks each contained 40.1g of sugar each in them, which is nearly half (45%) of your daily sugar recommendation.
One person exclaimed: "40g of sugar," followed by a shocked emoji as many others liked the post. Another Facebook user replied: "Think I will pass."
Someone else meanwhile wrote: "Ridiculously high in sugar," while a third person also pointed out the sugar content.
A fourth also sarcastically added: "Not a lot of sugar in them at all..."

As well as the sugar content, some people also weren't impressed with the price, which many claim is £3.99.
One shopper moaned: "£3.99 for them… daylight robbery," while another agreed: "£3.99 thought it was a bit overpriced."
However, someone else argued: "Had one yesterday from one of my local Aldis in the area and £3.99 for it wasn't bad price to be fair."

Despite the gripes, many people admitted they 'couldn't wait to try them', meanwhile someone else who'd already had a taste shared their view, writing: "Tried the passion fruit one yesterday it was nice."
Aldi has been contacted for comment.
The news comes after another Aldi drink that 'lowers cholesterol and blood sugar' has been hitting headlines. The budget supermarket is now selling a kombucha drink, which is also known for its immune system and gut health-boosting properties.
Being sold at £1.69, shoppers can buy a 330ml bottle of The Juice Company Kombucha in stores. The nutritional drink is available in three flavours - including passionfruit, ginger and lemon and wild berry.

Primark shopper shares 'hidden secret' to getting free items - all you need to do is ask

People were impressed to find out about this hidden Primark hack which you can ask about when checking out A clever shopper has discovered a brilliant method to expand your clothes hanger collection without breaking the bank. Since most people buy items online these days, they frequently end up with more garments than hangers. ‌ Buying coat hangers in large quantities doesn't come cheap. However, certain retailers do occasionally ask whether you'd like to retain a hanger when making in-store purchases, reports the Mirror. ‌ Whilst some customers might decline and simply leave, one resourceful bargain hunter revealed a trick that could land you loads of hangers absolutely free. ‌ Posting on the popular Facebook group, Extreme Couponing and Bargaining, the shopper said: "Just a tip for anyone desperately in need of coat hangers. Go to Primark and ask for some! "I went today and they asked if my mum wanted to keep the hangers and I said I will as I'm in need of some. [The staff] gave me a bag full and told me if I need anymore to go in and ask as they get charged to dispose of them!" Many people were delighted to learn this, with one fellow member commenting: "Better than going into landfill!" Another remarked: "I'm so glad I've just seen this, literally just been on amazon looking at coat hangers!" A third said: "This is a great idea. I don't understand this need for perfectly aesthetic clothes hangers that match - they're just there to do a job and hardly anyone is going to see them anyway!!" Someone else noted: "If there's nothing wrong with them then this is a great thing from Primark. Customer gets hangers for free and they don't have to deal with the waste." ‌ An individual claiming to be employed at Primark confirmed: "I work there! Just ask we will deffo give you them." Another shop assistant urged customers to "just ask" if they require a particular type of hanger. ‌ They explained: "Don't forget that they also have trousers hangers and the 'one peg' ones from the men shorts. [Nine times out of ten] they are buried but it's worth the ask." Several people noted that this practice isn't exclusive to Primark - with another shop worker stating: "We will give hangers in Poundland too!". Nevertheless, not every clothing retailer appears to follow this understanding that customers can take a hanger with their buy. In the post, one woman revealed her encounter at Next, stating: "I purchased from Next and asked to keep the hanger, they charged me 15p!" ‌ The Mirror previously reported in July 2024 that Next had begun implementing a 15p charge for hangers in a pilot scheme at four of its UK branches in an effort to reduce plastic usage. Customers would be charged the fee for the hanger if they wished to take it with their item. A Next spokesman told The Mirror at the time: "We are trying to reduce the amount of plastic being used to help protect the environment, therefore we retain the hangers and reuse them across the business. The small charge goes towards the production of more hangers."

Personal trainer dies after being hit by lightning riding bike on solo trip

Marco Zampilli, the owner of a popular cocktail bar in Rome, has tragically died after being hit by a bolt of lightning in southern Italy while riding his motorbike The owner of a popular cocktail bar has tragically died after being struck by lightning while riding his motorbike. ‌ Marco Zampilli was heading to the beach when a violent thunderstorm suddenly broke out and he was thrown from his BMW motorbike when he was struck by a lightning bolt causing an electric shock. He was found unresponsive on state road 275, between Nociglia and Surano, in Italy's Lecce province. People rushed to his aid and tried to resuscitate him while waiting for police and paramedics, but when responders arrived, there was nothing they could do. ‌ The tragedy happened on Sunday morning (August 17). Marco, 42, lived in Rome but had travelled to Italy's "heel" a few days earlier for a short holiday on his own. ‌ The accident happened near a memorial stone to another victim who had died in the same way years earlier. Marco co-owned a cocktail bar in Rome and was also a certified personal trainer. His bar had hundreds of positive reviews on Facebook and was recommended by 74% of visitors. "Top. Cocktails of the best quality. Thank you Marco for your professionalism and friendliness," wrote one person. Another said: "Very nice place, friendly staff, helpful and cordial! I booked the same day (Saturday) for 14 and they had no problem settling us in, despite the place being full. Such a great experience! Very delicious cocktails ! Recommended!" Affectionately known by his friends as Marcolino, he was passionate about motorbikes and Roma football club. He had lost his father - a pastry chef - around five months before his death, as reported by NeedToKnow. ‌ An online fundraiser has been launched to help Marco's family transport his body from Lecce to Rome, cover funeral costs, and close down his business. Denise wrote: "We met what feels like a lifetime ago - you with your cheeky grin and your big heart. You were always there for everyone. Your laugh was impossible to miss, and when you had something to say, nothing could stop you. That's how I'll remember you, my friend - strong as ever, with those eyes that could look straight into your soul. Goodbye, Boss." The GoFundMe page has raised more than £31,000 so far. It states: Hi everyone, this fundraiser has been organized to help Marco's family raise the necessary money to transport Marco's body home (from Lecce to Rome), for the funeral and for the business being closed (Rude Centocelle). Anyone who wants to contribute to support the cause can do so through this collection. Even a little help can go a long way, thanks in advance."
