Aldi selling new fruity bubble teas but shoppers startled by price

Two new bubble tea flavours from The Juice Company have been spotted on the shelves of Aldi – but shoppers have been left startled by the amount of sugar in them and the cost Bubble tea is a highly popular drink in the UK now. The tea-based beverage, often containing chewy tapioca balls, milk, and flavouring, originated in Taiwan in the early 1980s. However, it is now a staple on the UK high street and is even served by the likes of Costa Coffee. So it's no surprise that supermarket Aldi has jumped on the trend and is offering some new fruity bubble tea flavours in-store. Two new bubble tea flavours from The Juice Company were spotted on the shelves of Aldi by popular account NewFoodsUK, who shared their finding on their Facebook page. ‌ One of these ready-to-drink flavours was passion fruit and mango, while the other was wild berry and blueberry. ‌ However, although a lot of supermarket shoppers seemed excited about the drinks, with hundreds of people liking the post and tagging their friends in it, others were stunned by one detail – the amount of sugar in them. The packaging showed that the drinks each contained 40.1g of sugar each in them, which is nearly half (45%) of your daily sugar recommendation. One person exclaimed: "40g of sugar," followed by a shocked emoji as many others liked the post. Another Facebook user replied: "Think I will pass." Someone else meanwhile wrote: "Ridiculously high in sugar," while a third person also pointed out the sugar content. A fourth also sarcastically added: "Not a lot of sugar in them at all..." ‌ As well as the sugar content, some people also weren't impressed with the price, which many claim is £3.99. One shopper moaned: "£3.99 for them… daylight robbery," while another agreed: "£3.99 thought it was a bit overpriced." However, someone else argued: "Had one yesterday from one of my local Aldis in the area and £3.99 for it wasn't bad price to be fair." ‌ Despite the gripes, many people admitted they 'couldn't wait to try them', meanwhile someone else who'd already had a taste shared their view, writing: "Tried the passion fruit one yesterday it was nice." Aldi has been contacted for comment. The news comes after another Aldi drink that 'lowers cholesterol and blood sugar' has been hitting budget supermarket is now selling a kombucha drink, which is also known for its immune system and gut health-boosting properties. The nutritional drink is available in three flavours - including passionfruit, ginger and lemon and wild berry. ‌ Known for its health benefits, Kombucha contains live cultures that promote a healthy gut. According to Aldi, the drink combines "a tropical tang with bubbly refreshment." ‌ The retailer says The Juice Company Passionfruit Kombucha is "bursting with a sweet yet tart flavour", and the ginger and lemon flavour provides "a warming immune system boost along with a zesty kick of citrus to offer a refreshing pick-me-up." For shoppers looking for something sweet yet natural, The Juice Company Wild Berry Kombucha "brings a symphony of delicious berries," according to Aldi. The new kombuca drink follows Aldi's £2.29 Kefir Frozen Yoghurt, which comes in chocolate, mango and passionfruit, and strawberry, which is packed with calcium and protein to "boost gut health and wellbeing." Kombucha is a type of tea that has been fermented, which makes it a good source of probiotics, which have many health benefits. Aldi's The Juicy Company Kombucha drinks are available in stores now. How can kombucha can boost your health? Kombucha made from green tea may offer many of the same health benefits as green tea itself, such as weight loss and blood sugar management. According to Healthline, kombucha is also rich in tea polyphenols and acetic acid, which have both been shown to suppress the growth of undesirable bacteria and yeasts. It has been shown to improve LDL and HDL cholesterol levels in rats and protect against heart disease. Kombucha also improved several markers of diabetes in rats, including blood sugar levels. ‌ Kombucha is made by adding specific strains of bacteria, yeast, and sugar to black or green tea and then allowing it to ferment for a week or more. During this process, bacteria and yeast form a mushroom-like film on the surface of the liquid. This is why kombucha is also known as "mushroom tea." The fermentation process produces acetic acid (also found in vinegar) and several other acidic compounds, trace levels of alcohol, and gases that make it carbonated. A large number of bacteria also grow in the mixture. Kombucha contains several species of lactic acid bacteria that may have a probiotic function. ‌ Probiotics provide your gut with healthy bacteria. These bacteria may improve many aspects of health, including digestion, inflammation, and even weight loss. Kombucha made from green tea contains many of the same plant compounds and presumably boasts some of the same benefits. Studies show that drinking green tea regularly or taking supplements containing green tea extract can increase the number of calories you burn, reduce belly fat, improve cholesterol levels, help with blood sugar control, and more.
