Mahendra Singh Dhoni, known as "Captain Cool," is celebrating his 44th birthday on Monday, July 7. After leading India to three ICC titles - ODI World Cup, the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy, Dhoni retired from international cricket nearly five years ago but his presence in the sport remains as influential as ever. The five-times IPL winning captain recently featured in the cash rich-league for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the 2025 season.
At his 44th birthday, let's take a look at seven remarkable records of MS Dhoni that may never be broken: https://zeenews.india.com/photos/sports/7-special-records-of-ms-dhoni-that-may-never-be-broken-check-in-pics-2928095 Updated:Jul 07, 2025, 07:29 PM IST 1. Only Captain to Win All Three Major ICC Trophies
1 / 7
MS Dhoni is the only captain in cricket history to win all three major ICC titles - the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2011 ODI Cricket World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. This monumental achievement is unlikely to be replicated by any other captain in the future. 2. Most International Matches As Captain
2 / 7
MS Dhoni holds the world record for captaining a team in most international matches. He led India in 332 international matches across all formats (60 Tests, 200 ODIs, 72 T20Is). With his longevity and consistency, Dhoni surpassed Ricky Ponting's record of captaining in 324 matches. Given his current trend of shorter captaincy tenures, this record of Dhoni is nearly untouchable. 3. Captain To Win Most IPL Matches
3 / 7
MD Dhoni holds the record for winning the most number of matches as a captain in IPL history. He has won 136 out of 235 matches in IPL. Close to Dhoni on the list comes Rohit Sharma with 87 wins. Since, Rohit doesn't captain in IPL now, it is very difficult for anyone to break this record of Dhoni in the cash-rich league. 4. Oldest Captain To Win An IPL Trophy
4 / 7
At 42 years and 325 days, MS Dhoni became the oldest captain to win an IPL trophy in history after CSK beat Gujarat Titans in a last-ball thriller in the final of the 2023 season. It's almost impossible for any other captain to win an IPL trophy at that old age. 5. Most Matches As Captain In IPL History
5 / 7
MS Dhoni has played as captain in the IPL for a record 235 times, the highest for any cricketer so far. His record of most matches as captain looks safe as the next player with most matches as skipper in the IPL is Rohit Sharma (158), who is no longer a captain of any team. 6. Most Stumpings In International Cricket
6 / 7
MS Dhoni's lightning-fast wicket-keeping skills helped him create a record of 195 stumpings across all international formats (123 in ODIs, 38 in Tests, 34 in T20Is). The rarity of wicket-keepers playing all formats extensively in the current era makes this record extremely difficult to break. 7. Most Runs In ODIs At Number 6 Or Lower
7 / 7
Notably, MS Dhoni is the only player to score over 10,000 runs in ODIs while batting at number 6 or lower, amassing 10,268 runs. His ability to rebuild innings and accelerate in the lower order was a benchmark that is unlikely to be surpassed by any modern lower-order batter.

He Hasnt Closed The Door, So...: Keshav Maharaj Opens Up On His Chances For 2026 Men's T20 World Cup

South Africa veteran left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj said he remains determined to stake for a spot in the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup after being overlooked for the recent T20I series against Australia. Maharaj is one of five changes to South Africa's ODI squad that will face Australia at the Cazalys Stadium from Tuesday, alongside skipper Temba Bavuma, Wiaan Mulder, Matthew Breetzke and Tony de Zorzi. He missed South Africa's recent Test series win against Zimbabwe with a groin strain, but confirmed the injury had no bearing on his omission from the T20I series, which the visitors' lost 2-1. "Yeah, I'm available. I think 'Shuks' (coach Shukri Conrad) wants to try some things. He hasn't closed the door, so I'm hoping that I will get an opportunity to show him what I can do," Maharaj told reporters in Cairns on Sunday. Maharaj was a key figure in South Africa's run to the Men's T20 World Cup final last year, where they were beaten by India in Barbados. He played all 10 matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India as well, taking 15 wickets at an economy rate of just 4.15 in another campaign that ended in semi-final defeat to eventual champions Australia. With 16 T20Is scheduled before the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup takes place in India and Sri Lanka, Maharaj said he had no plans to cut back his commitments. "Not at all. Not yet. The T20 World Cup in 2026 is a huge one for me. For now, I'm happy to play three formats. I still love bowling and until that passion falls away then I want to play all three formats for my country and be a match winner," he added.

I tried taking more responsibility and got the results, says Prabhsimran

Prabhsimran Singh played a key role in Punjab Kings' run to the final in the IPL this year, leading the run charts for his side. The 25-year-old opener had his best season and set a new record for the most runs by an uncapped player in the competition with 549 runs. The opener credited head coach Ricky Ponting for his incredible run in the IPL. 'I feel most of the credit goes to Ricky Ponting. He gave me clarity. 'Ahead of the season, when a youngster has that clarity, he can focus completely on enhancing his game,' said Prabhsimran, who is in Chennai with the Punjab team to take part in the Buchi Babu tournament that starts on Monday. 'This year, I felt my consistency was better. In the previous years, I would play well, but would get out for 30 or 35. I worked a lot on that this year. This time, I tried to take up more responsibility, and I got the results.' The wicketkeeper-batter also formed an effective partnership alongside Priyansh Arya and said the duo worked together ahead of the tournament to understand each other. 'Before the season, we heard everyone saying that both are young uncapped openers and questioned it. The captain and coach gave us clarity at the start of the tournament itself that we would be opening. We would train in nets and in practice games, and from there we just matched,' said Prabhsimran. Looking ahead to the next edition, the Punjab opener is hoping to build on his IPL exploits. 'Every player, when he starts playing cricket, it's his dream to play for India. 'For now, let's see, I'm just waiting. I don't think a lot about all that, I'm just focusing on my game, and if I continue to do well, then hopefully god will give me an opportunity soon.'
