Former Notre Dame wide receiver changes schools again Former Fighting Irish wide receiver Tobias Merriweather heads to Utah from Cal
Former Notre Dame wide receiver Tobias Merriweather has left Cal and will sign with Utah.
Merriweather has 26 career catches for 450 yards and four touchdowns with Cal and Notre Dame. He spent two seasons with the Fighting Irish.
The junior from Camas, Washington, will now be a member of the Utes.
Merriweather's most productive season at Notre Dame was 2023, when he had 14 catches for 284 yards, two touchdowns, and a long of 75 yards. He had 20.3 yards per catch that year.

Notre Dame offers 4-star 2027 Pennsylvania wide receiver Matthew Gregory When Ja'Juan Seider made the move from Penn State to Notre Dame as its running backs coach, it opened the doors to many players in the state of Pennsylvania. The connections helped the Irish, as on Wednesday, a new offer went out to a Keystone State prospect in 2027 wide receiver Matthew Gregory. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 170-pound prospect is currently listed as an athlete, but will most likely play on offense when he arrives on a college campus. Gregory is ranked as the No. 106 overall player by the 247Sports Composite in his class, making him one of the nation's best. He has a solid offer list at this early moment, as Notre Dame joined teams like Florida State, Missouri, Wisconsin and the Nittany Lions. He had an impressive sophomore season, accounting for 1,100 all-purpose yards with 16 total touchdowns. On defense Gregory picked off six passes as well, earning first-team all-league honors. Speed is a big part of his game, as he's been clocked at 4.35 when running a 40-yard dash. The hope is that this offer from the Irish get Gregory to make a visit to South Bend in the near future, and if that does happen, Notre Dame could be putting themselves in a great position to land the top prospect.

Still, according to 247Sports' Matt Zenitz, coach Mike Elko has reportedly snagged one of the top recruiters in the country, as former Miami staffer David "Pop" Cooney will join the Aggie staff ahead of the 2025 season in an unspecified recruiting role. This week, Texas A&M will host a highly talented list of 2026 prospects, including several five-star recruits, as the timing to hire a proven recruiter with an exceptional track record couldn't have been better. This isn't a surprise, given Elko's track record of making staff changes sporadically, which dates back to hiring Lyle Hemphill for the 2025 defensive staff early in the offseason. Concerning two elite prospects in the 2026 recruiting class, Cooney was one of the lead recruiters for five-star wide receiver. LSU commit Tristen Keys, who will take an official visit to Texas A&M over the next two months, while holding a strong relationship with current four-star wide receiver commit Aaron Gregory, who has been receiving strong interest from rival programs, including the Texas Longhorns. As Zenitz notes, Cooney served as Miami's recruiting director for three seasons, while also serving as the program's assistant wide receiver coach. This is a significant boost for Texas A&M's recruiting efforts, especially this week. Other names include former Miami wide receivers Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George, who are both currently on NFL rosters.
