What Is Benne Dosa?
Benne dosa is a type of South Indian dosa that's popular in Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru. The name "benne" translates to "butter" in Kannada, and this dosa is indeed smothered in butter, which lends it a rich, crispy texture. Traditionally, it's made with a fermented batter of rice and lentils. However, this instant version uses rice flour and gram flour instead, making it easier to prepare.
What's The Texture Of Benne Dosa?
The texture of benne dosa is truly delightful! It boasts a crispy, golden-brown exterior that's slightly caramelised from the generous helping of butter, and a soft, fluffy interior that's just right. When you take a bite, the crunch of the outside gives way to the softness inside, creating a match made in heaven.
Is Benne Dosa Healthy?
Well, let's be real - benne dosa is not exactly a healthy food, thanks to all the butter and ghee involved! But, it's definitely a healthier option than some other fried or oily snacks out there. The dosa batter itself is made with fermented rice and lentils, which are good sources of protein and fibre.
What To Serve With Benne Dosa?
Benne dosa is super versatile, so you can serve it with all sorts of things. Some popular options include sambar, coconut chutney, tomato chutney, or even just plain old chutney powder. You could also try serving it with some spicy chutneys or pickles for a kick.

Once done, divide the batter into two parts.
Just before making the dosa, add a little baking soda to it and mix well.
Spread the dosa batter on a heated tawa and spread it evenly. Make sure it's not too thin.
Spread some ghee or benne (butter) over the dosa and let it cook.

International Friendship Day 2025: Date, History, Significance, Celebration And Gift Ideas

International Friendship Day Date 2025: The day promotes friendship, harmony, and mutual understanding across cultures, races, religions, and nations. International Friendship Day 2025 Date: Introduced by the United Nations (UN), International Friendship Day is observed every year on July 30. The day promotes friendship, harmony, and mutual understanding across cultures, races, religions, and nations. Though not a public holiday, people mark the occasion by exchanging warm messages, spending time with friends, and celebrating the spirit of unity. Friendship Day History And Significance The concept of a global friendship day was first proposed in 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade, a civil organisation based in Paraguay. Decades later, in 2011, the UN General Assembly officially designated July 30 as International Friendship Day. The goal: to inspire peace-building efforts and strengthen bonds between individuals and communities, regardless of their background. The UN particularly encourages the involvement of youth, believing young people can foster a culture of respect and diversity, paving the way for a more inclusive and peaceful world. Many nations have also adopted their own National Friendship Day. In India, Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August, while in the United States of America (USA), it is observed on February 15. Friendship Day Celebration Ideas In our increasingly busy lifestyles, it is getting harder to reunite with friends. But the International Friends Day is a fantastic opportunity to share an evening and spend time together with your school or college friends, whom we only occasionally meet these days. People celebrate International Friendship Day by calling, greeting their friends and organising fun activities, including parties, moving outings, night outs, vacations, hiking or even something as simple as a lunch or dinner taken together amidst a dose of old stories, jokes and nostalgia. Friendship Day Gift Ideas Friends also give each other gifts on International Friendship Day. Here are a few thoughtful gestures you can make for your friends: Traditionally, friends tie wristbands on each other in schools and colleges and established it as a mark of their connection. Friends also give each other colourful cards with friendship vows and messages, flowers and other gifts that convey how special our friends are to us. The colourful wristbands have given way to bracelets and jewellery these days for kids and adults that are available easily in the market. People also share handmade cards on International Friendship Day, expressing their true feelings for each other. You can also give your friends a pleasant surprise by creating an attractive and heartfelt post on your Instagram handle with your best pictures and memories together, bringing a smile to their faces. view comments First Published: July 30, 2025, 06:02 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Karnataka teachers criticise lesson-based assessment system, say promotes rote learning

Bengaluru: The school education department's lesson-based assessment kicked off in govt schools. However, teachers are not amused. Teachers across schools have called the system stifling, promoting rote learning and introducing excessive administrative work. As per the new system called lesson-based assessment (LBA), teachers are to conduct tests after every chapter. The tests will be out of 25 marks. After every test, the marks should be entered in the student achievement tracking system (SATS), and grades will be generated. This is applicable for classes 4-10 in Kannada medium and classes 1-10 in English medium classes. "This is a huge administrative task. For example, in social studies, there are around 30-40 chapters. Imagine the number of entries that need to be made by a teacher for a class of 30 students," said a teacher. Teachers also feel the system is stifling. "This is a rat race for teachers. They are just forced to teach one chapter after another, with no breathing space. The system is so rigid that you have to complete a fixed number of chapters within a given time in the same order given by the department. Where is the time and scope to step back and analyse results, create differentiation in classrooms to teach at the right level for different groups, bring engaging learning materials, leverage peer learning?" said another teacher from East Bengaluru. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Seniors Are Ditching Finger Pricks with This Breakthrough Monitor Thelifeh Undo You Can Also Check: Bengaluru AQI | Weather in Bengaluru | Bank Holidays in Bengaluru | Public Holidays in Bengaluru Educationists also point out that it is just promoting rote learning. "All that the department is now expecting from children is to learn the answers and score in the exams. There is no space for creative or critical thinking," said an educationist. "Repetitive, uniform tests result in assessment fatigue among students and teachers. The department should provide flexible guidelines, frameworks, and exemplar tools, not rigid prescriptions and formats. Teachers will be lost in marking scripts, making these entries as data entry operators. Teachers are not robots. They need time for lesson planning, process-oriented learning, engage in professional discussions and reflective practices," said a teacher trainer. "We have requested the department to reduce the number of questions for the assessments in the lower classes. The department has agreed and we hope to have an official order on this soon," said Chandrashekhar Nuggali, president, Karnataka State Primary School Teachers' Association. The department of school education and literacy said while the SATS website has been seeing some upgradation, the process of entering marks will be made smoother soon. "We have already provided them with a question bank with the questions for LBA. Further, with the Khan Academy's app, teachers will be able to use artificial intelligence to generate question papers. It will be easier for the teachers," said Rashmi Mahesh, principal secretary.

Viral: Chinese delivery worker cries over 10-hour shifts, says life punishes him with hunger

In an age where convenience is a tap away and food can reach our doorsteps in minutes, we often tend to forget the people behind these services, those who pedal through cities for hours in the sun, rain, or cold to ensure timely deliveries. Although the rise of gig economy jobs has created opportunities, it has also exposed workers to instability, mental stress, and a lack of basic security. Delivery riders, in particular, face long hours, unpredictable pay, and little protection. Recently, one such food delivery worker from China made headlines after his raw and emotional video surfaced online. The man candidly opened up about the weight of his daily struggles and his biggest regret. What did the Chinese delivery boy say in the video? A Chinese food delivery worker recently went viral on Instagram after posting an emotional video revealing the tough realities of his daily life. The man, who said he never went to university, broke down in tears while still wearing his work uniform. In the video, he opened up about the mental and physical exhaustion he faces working in the gig economy, and the regret that continues to haunt him for leaving school too early. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brigade™ Insignia. 3, 4 & 5 BHK Starting at ₹3.39 Cr* Brigade Group Learn More Undo According to the video caption shared on Instagram, the man said he delivers food for continuous hours during the day with no breaks and no long-term stability. "And now? I deliver food for over 10 hours a day, exhausted like a dog. I don't dare slack off even for a second, because the moment I do, life punishes me with an empty stomach. How could I not feel anxious?" he shared. The emotional confession revealed the harsh truth behind the gig economy many don't see. He said, 'Despite my teacher's warning me against dropping out of school,' he remembered, 'I did so and now I realise the importance of their advice.' He expressed frustration over not being able to support his aging parents or build a life of his own. 'I can't give my parents the life they deserve, I can't even live the life the way I want either. It breaks my heart. But who can I even talk to about it?' he added. Social media response The video touched many online. As reported on Instagram, one user commented, 'Oh brother, don't cry, even people who graduated struggle nowadays, don't worry.' Another said, 'Being born to parents who can give you opportunities is such a blessing many don't understand.' Another user said, 'Sir I have an education and am in the same situation as you.' Tragically, stories like this are not rare. In Hangzhou last year, a 55-year-old delivery worker reportedly died after falling asleep on his electric bike following an exhausting 18-hour shift.
