Oregon Football lands near the top of 247Sports post-spring top 25 poll
The Oregon Ducks' spring football season has come to a close, leaving a seemingly endless string of days before college football returns, but really, the start of the 2025 season is closer than it seems (to me, at least).
Oregon's roster has undergone major changes since the last time the Ducks took the field, but based on recruiting in the past few years and new transfer portal acquisitions, Oregon is positioned to enter 2025 without much dropoff—despite its new look. In some positions, the Ducks may not be what they were; in others, they are poised to improve.
On Monday, 247Sports published its "Post-Spring Top 25," compiling rankings by polling six of its writers. Based on that ranked-choice ballot, 247Sports ranked Oregon as the fifth-best team in college football, and the Ducks were unanimously voted as a top-five team at this stage of the game.
Around this time last year, most outlets ranked the Ducks at No. 3 or No. 4. Oregon went 13-1 last season and spent most of the year as the AP No. 1 team. A preseason projection of No. 5 in the following season leaves the Ducks with expectations for a strong follow-up to their 2024 campaign as they head into a daunting 2025 schedule.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are Ranked No. 2 on the list, just behind the Texas Longhorns at No. 1. The Ducks will play them on Sep. 27th in Happy Valley, Pennsylvania. Ohio State, the team that snapped Oregon's undefeated 2024 season with a slashing in the Rose Bowl, is ranked No. 3. Although the Buckeyes aren't on Oregon's regular-season schedule, there's a strong chance the two teams meet in the Big Ten Championship Game.
Illinois and Michigan are ranked adjacent at No. 14 and No. 15, respectively. The four Big Ten teams that received votes but didn't crack 247Sports' top 25 were Iowa, Indiana, USC, and Wisconsin. The Ducks will play all four in 2025, hosting the Hoosiers, Trojans, and Badgers and traveling to Iowa City to play the Hawkeyes.
These are high expectations for Oregon in 2025, and they exist in spite of several question marks on the Ducks' roster. Dante Moore is a new quarterback, which is bound to brew uncertainty, and he'll be throwing to a lot of inexperienced guys. The O-line is equally inexperienced (at least in Oregon jerseys), and Oregon's 2025 defense will be unrecognizable to many.
But this time last year, many of those positions held the same uncertainty, and while not all of the Ducks' new faces in 2024 were improvements, Oregon's roster changes boomed more than they busted from 2023 to 2024. Now, it's about doing the same in 2025. The Ducks' inexperience could limit them in 2025, but what's to say the new look Ducks can't outshine the old?

According to Nick Osen, a Badgers beat writer for 247Sports, the 6'1" safety will be in Madison June 12-14 on an official visit with the Wisconsin football team. Recently, Combay released his final five teams and a commitment date of July 9th. The Badgers made the final cut along with four SEC teams: Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, and Missouri. According to the 247Sports recruiting database, Combay is a 3-star prospect and holds offers from over 30 Division I teams, including offers from the previously mentioned top five, as well as teams like Alabama, Arizona State, Auburn, Florida, among many more. Advertisement Currently, there are no Crystal Ball predictions on 247Sports for the Georgia safety, but the On3 prediction machine gives Tennessee a 28% chance to land Jombay. Wisconsin is fourth at 13.2% behind the Volunteers, South Carolina (18.5%), and Missouri (15.9%). The 247Sports Composite has Combay listed as the 605th-overall prospect in the country and the 47th safety in the 2026 class. Iowa baseball reveals 2026 Big Ten schedule As Iowa baseball continues its long and winding offseason, the program announced its Big Ten schedule for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign, which includes some familiar foes and a few new opponents. Headlining next season's conference schedule are two consecutive road series to open up the slate of games, with the Hawkeyes traveling to State College, Penn., for a three-game series March 13-15 vs. Penn State and then visiting East Lansing, Mich., for another three-game set March 20-22, against Michigan State. Following the two road trips, Iowa returns to Duane Banks Field for two consecutive series, with the first being against 2025 College World Series-bound UCLA from March 27-29 and the second against Minnesota from April 3-5. For the Bruins, it will be the first time the storied program has traveled to Iowa City and the first three-game series between the two. Last season's Big Ten Tournament Semifinal between the Hawkeyes and Bruins was the first-ever meeting between both programs, with UCLA winning 9-3. After the Minnesota series, the Hawkeyes' Big Ten schedule alternates between home and away series for the remainder of the season. Iowa's remaining series on the road will be vs. USC (April 10-12), vs. Indiana (April 24-26), and Nebraska (May 8-10). Of note in those road series is the trip to Los Angeles, Calif., vs. USC, which will be the Hawkeyes' sixth-ever game against the Trojans (USC holds a 3-2 all-time series lead). Conversely, the remaining Hawkeyes' home series will be vs. Maryland (April 17-19), vs. Illinois (May 1-3), and vs. Purdue (May 14-16). While Iowa's conference strength of schedule is yet to be determined, seven of the ten opponents the Hawkeyes face next year made the 2025 Big Ten Tournament, and three qualified for the NCAA Tournament. They earned five commitments over their first official visit weekend, but have been searching for No. 6 for over a week. Advertisement Zachary Taylor, a defensive back out of Jordan High School in Fulshear, Texas, could be the next commitment for Luke Fickell and the Badgers. Evan Flood, a Badgers Insider for 247Sports, logged a Crystal Ball prediction for the Badgers to land the 3-star defensive back after his visit to Madison. Flood added a confidence level of '5' to his prediction, which is considered 'medium' confidence. On 247Sports, Taylor is listed as a cornerback, but he has also played some safety and is seen as a versatile player who could play cornerback or safety at the next level. Gabe Brooks, a scouting analyst for 247Sports, wrote the following scouting report on Taylor. Requisite size for varying secondary roles with elite combine testing data and track speed. Owns some impressive downfield coverage reps that highlight turn-and-run athleticism and ability to stay sticky in the vertical passing game. Experienced in all three phases with limited offensive and return game reps. Shows encouraging tackling, conviction, and production in that category. Knows how to crowd the catch window. Ideally would increase impact playmaking ability in regards to ball production on the stat sheet. Boasts significant snaps at corner and safety and could potentially serve as a chameleon in a college secondary. Projects to the high-major level and could possibly develop into a pro prospect. According to the 247Sports Composite, Taylor is a 3-star player and is the 38th-ranked cornerback and 494th-overall player in the 2026 class. Advertisement The versatile defensive back has over 20 offers from teams like Wisconsin, Houston, Texas Tech, TCU, Minnesota, and more. He is currently slated to visit Pitt (June 12) and Houston (June 19). A Crystal Ball prediction is by no means a lock for the Badgers to get Taylor, but Flood is very well-connected and generally has a good feel for what is going to happen. Adding Taylor would give the Badgers their second defensive back of the class, joining cornerback Carsen Eloms. His commitment would provide the Wisconsin football program its 12th commitment and also boost them from the No. 38 class to No. 33 in 247Sports' national team rankings.
