6 summer outfits to wear with espadrilles, the Royal-approved sandal that's a seasonal staple
Plus, sitting on a stacked woven wedge heel, they're undeniably comfortable. No wonder the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Alexa Chung, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are all fans.
All in all, they're the most inoffensive sandal trend around (yes, 'ugly shoe' trend, I'm referring to you). But while I appreciate an espadrille's reliability and simplicity, some members of the Cosmo Fashion Team find them predictable, shunning them for these exact same reasons.
Well, I'm here to tell you the humble espadrille wedge has had a makeover in 2025. Featuring pretty embroidery, velvet straps in contrasting hues and sculptural silhouettes, they're shaking off their boring connotations and emerging as our go-to shoe this summer for all the events on our calendar. From pub drinks with friends to providing the finishing touch to our summer wedding guest dresses, the 2025 espadrille is cooler, more stylish – but (crucially) just as comfy as the classics.
As for what summer outfits we'll be wearing with our espadrille wedges, keep reading for styling inspiration and a sneak peek at the sandals that have caught my eye and earned a spot on my wishlist.
What shoes do you wear with a bright tangerine summer dress? Black is too heavy, white is too dated, any other colour could aggressively clash, but an equally zesty orange hue – paired with the neutral woven sole so as not to overwhelm – is just right.
Espadrilles are perhaps the ultimate wedding guest shoe – formal enough to go with your dress, but comfy enough to have you on the dance floor all night long. We love the idea of pairing a floral dress with espadrilles featuring floral embroidery. Don't worry about matching the flower motifs perfectly as long as your dress and shoes have shared colours in their designs.
Wide-leg jeans sometimes require a little height to help balance out the proportions of extra fabric and ensure the most flattering of fits, but who wants to wear heels out and about? Enter: the espadrille wedge, ideal for weekends spent standing in pub gardens.
Not a lover of colour? No shade, some of us just prefer to stick to a wardrobe of minimal black, white and neutral colourways. But, if you do want to add just a little colour pop to an outfit, a bright, statement pair of shoes is an easy way to do so. We love these Penelope Chilvers wedges that feature velvet ribbons woven through the shoe in a slightly different shade of pink for even more colour, while still feeling subtle.
Falling into the same category as linen trousers, Bermuda shorts are the fashion set's favourite summer shorts thanks to their versatility and comfort. Fitting, then, that they pair perfectly with espadrilles. Add this look to your summer workwear rotation and prepare to be crowned best-dressed employee. I *love* how Castañer have toughened up the shoe with a black leather upper. So cool.
AKA Kate Middleton's tried and tested go-to outfit formula. You know what they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Well, if it's good enough for the Princess of Wales all these years later, we're taking that as a green light to wear this look in 2025.

9 Pairs of Bermuda Shorts And The Sandals To Pair Them With
Despite being in the throes of summer 2025, the SS26 shows have already begun, with Copenhagen Fashion Week being one of the first on the calendar. It's also the perfect chance to get a hit of street style before fashion month begins in earnest, next month. So what are Copenhagen's coolest girls wearing? There were dresses over jeans, there were bonnets, and most ubiquitously, there were Bermuda shorts – teamed with summer's best sandals. The trend has been bubbling up for a while now and it's likely you already own a pair of denim jorts. Now's the time to expand your collection to include Bermuda shorts, which come in a variety of guises, from sporty (see Dior's SS25 show) to utility-inspired (at Burberry). Traditionally, the Bermuda was neat and tailored, offering a weather-appropriate alternative to suit trousers in the Bermudan heat in the early 1900s. Today, we're applying the term more loosely to a short that hits either just above, on or below the knee. Importantly, they are the perfect partner to some of our favourite summer sandals, from 1990s-inspired mules and 1970s-tinged clogs, to colourful jelly shoes and platform clogs. In short (pun intended), the Bermuda-short-and-sandal pairing is a no-brainer, especially when it's too hot to think. Below, see our favourite ways to style them – with a little help from nine stylish women. Lean into the season's sporty mood with a pair of Bermudas in nylon or tech fabric and utilitarian rope sandals. We love this showgoer's surfer-esque shorts from the Miu Miu men's collection. Sometimes, simplicity is key. Cream denim Bermuda shorts look great as part of a neutral outfit, and perfectly complement leather flip flops from the likes of Toteme, Massimo Dutti or The Row. The Bermuda short first gained popularity in the early 20th century as part of an abbreviated trouser suit better adapted to warmer climes. These days, we love how it looks with mesh flats and a fresh white T-shirt. When it comes to chunky slides, none are chicer than Hermès' Chypre sandals, a more heavy-duty alternative to the iconic Oran. Quiet luxury may now be a hackneyed term, but it very much describes what happens when you pair such a sandal with a tailored Bermuda short. Bermuda shorts can work well into autumn; simply choose a pair in suede or leather, like this Copenhagen Fashion Week showgoer. Teamed with minimal sandals in an earthy hue, it feels purposeful and effortless in equal measure. Linen Bermuda shorts are a boon in a heatwave and this Mango pair will form the basis of so many looks. In high temperatures, style them with a simple vest and statement accessories, like a silk scarf and, our favourite, a pair of pop-bright jelly shoes. Ancient Greek Sandals' Iro model is our go-to. Stay true to the Bermuda short's history with a neatly tailored pair in white or black, styling them as part of a clean, tonal look – complete with a pair of this season's cage sandals, either with small heels or without. The mule continues its reign this spring/summer. A kitten heel pair lends a girlish touch to crisp, indigo-rinse denim shorts and an oversized tee or knit. Consider an anklet and/or toe ring to finish the look. When one thinks of platform clogs, one thinks of Chloé and all of those beautiful, billowing boho dresses. Teaming them instead with slim-fit Bermuda shorts feels wonderfully unexpected. We also love the additions of the bandana and beads.

Heeled flip flops aren't going anywhere! 7 outfits to wear now with the trending sandal
Love 'em or hate 'em, heeled flip flops have proven to be the shoe of the summer. The surprisingly divisive sandal has been spotted adorning the feet of the most stylish of fashion girlies since early June, and more recently, completing every look amongst the street style set at Copenhagen Fashion Week last week. Luckily, there's still plenty of time left in the szn to get maximum wear out of yours. And, if you have yet to invest, it's not too late as we guarantee you'll be wearing these well into September. We promise we're not trying to wish away summer, but when autumn does eventually roll around, simply swap your summer dress for tailored trousers and jeans – with the humble heeled flip flop elevating your ensemble in more ways than one. Whether you're heading to work, out on date night, or catching up with your girls over brunch, trust us when we say this shoe is versatile. Below, find all the inspo you need on outfits to wear your heeled flip flops with right now and in the weeks to come. A leather jacket is a wardrobe essential year-round, but especially come autumn. Add a Y2K twist with a pair of on-trend capri pants. Nothing says effortless chic like an oversized t-shirt paired with a midi skirt. The key to pulling off this look is to keep your tee untucked. Don't worry, the minimal silhouette of your heeled flip flops keeps this 'fit from veering into sloppy territory. Leg warmers, optional. Denim, linen, cargo, camel – we've been wearing knee-length (or Bermuda) shorts on repeat this summer and we plan to for weeks to come. The extra few inches provide a surprising amount of warmth, especially with a cosy knit jumper worn on your top half. Take your heeled flip flops to work when worn with a sharp blazer and a maxi skirt. We have no issue with open-toes at work, and the kitten heel keeps things feeling smart rather than beach-y. If the weather turns, don't worry about changing your footwear. Just add a trench coat to your look to keep things feeling seasonal. Trousers look and feel autumnal, but the silky satin fabric keeps things from being too heavy. We'll be recreating this outfit for late summer evenings. You don't have to hide your legs, though. If a mini is your go-to, counteract bare legs and heeled flip flops with a fluffy jumper. Follow Alex on Instagram. Alexandria Dale is the Digital Fashion Writer at Cosmopolitan UK.
