Former Gujarat captain Priyank Panchal announces retirement from all cricket

A prolific right-handed opener, Priyank scored 8856 First-Class runs with 29 centuries & 34 fifties, including a majestic 314*. He led Gujarat to its maiden Ranji Trophy title in 2016-17, also lifting the Vijay Hazare Trophy (2015-16) and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (2012-13 & 2013-14). He captained India A and Gujarat across all formats with grit and pride. We salute his dedication and legacy. Wishing him success ahead.'

The 35-year-old finishes as Gujarat's second-highest run-getter in first-class cricket, 19 short of Parthiv Patel's tally of 7011 runs. The 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season was his last, in which he made two centuries, with a best of 148 against Kerala in the semi-final, in what turned out to be his last innings.
Panchal leaves with 23 centuries, the most by a Gujarat player, during his first-class career, which spanned 127 matches and 8856 runs. He also featured in 97 List A games and 59 T20S.
Gujarati batter Panchal played his last first-class game in the Ranji Trophy last season against Kerala. Gujarat lost the match based on Kerala's first-inning lead. Panchal scored 148 runs in his last first-class match against Kerala.
He eaves with the distinction of being part of the winning squads of all domestic tournaments - Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (2014-15), Vijay Hazare Trophy (2015-16) and Ranji Trophy (2016-17). (ANI)

Agency: Last Updated: August 11, 2025, 21:15 IST Representational image (Image: News18) Tangerang [Indonesia], August 11 (ANI): The Indian Golf Union, the National Sports Federation (NSF) for golf recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), has sent a four-member team to Indonesia to compete in the first-ever Mid-Amateur Championship organized by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation in association with the Indonesia Golf by current IGU All-India Mid-Amateur champion Ranjit Singh, the Indian team comprising Arjun Singh, Simarjeet Singh and Col. Varoon Parmar will participate in the prestigious event at the Graham Marsh-designed Gading Raya Golf Club in Tangerang, Indonesia, from August 12-14. A total of 80 golfers from 20 countries will be battling it out for the coveted trophy, a release Varoon Parmar won gold at the World Military Games 2025 and finished runner-up in the IGU All-India Mid-Amateur Championship. Simarjeet, who won the IGU All-India Mid-Amateur Golf Championship in 2022 apart from clinching multiple national titles on previous occasions, is also in the team his excitement for competing in the event, Ranjit Singh said: 'I have represented India for many years and I am eternally grateful to the Indian Golf Union for sending me for this prestigious event. It is the first such Mid-Amateur Championship being organised by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, and I am happy to be part of the first such Indian team to be competing in it. The Gading Raya course is in pristine shape, but there is a likelihood of rain for the next three days, so adapting to the conditions becomes essential."IGU Director General Maj. Gen Bibhuti Bhushan (retd) said: 'The IGU has sent a strong team to Indonesia for the inaugural APGC Mid-Amateur Championship. The tournament serves our purpose of fostering camaraderie and the spirit of patriotism among the team members. Being contested among more than 20 countries, it also gives an opportunity to the Indian team to test their skills and play for the Tricolour."The Mid-Amateur Championship will be staged in four age divisions – Group A (ages 25 to 29), Group B (ages 30 to 37), Group C (ages 38 to 46) and Group D (aged 47 and above) – and is open to men who have Amateur Status in accordance with the R&A guidelines. The upcoming 50-over World Cup marks the return of a senior ICC Women's tournament to the sub-continent for the first time since 2016, when India hosted the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. India has previously staged the Women's World Cup in 1978, 1997 and 2013. The event also marked the official launch of the ICC Trophy Tour, beginning in Mumbai and travelling to all host cities of the tournament, as well as Delhi. As part of a wider school legacy programme, the Trophy Tour will visit several schools in each host city, with the BCCI and ICC partnering with stakeholders to give select schools the chance to attend matches of the World Cup. Prithvi Shaw's downfall Prithvi scored a century on his Test debut at just age 18 in the 2018-19 season against West Indies, months after he captained India to win the Under-19 World Cup. Interestingly, Shubman Gill was the vice-captain of the same team, and he is now the Test captain of India. Prithvi was picked for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia the same season but got ruled out after getting injured in one of the practice games in Sydney before the start of the first Test. He made a comeback later but couldn't perform well. Things changed after that and he lost his place in the team and has not played for India since 2021. The last few years have been tough for Shaw. He left Mumbai ahead of the new domestic season after being dropped midway in the previous Ranji Trophy due to poor form and some disciplinary problems. He played a few matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy but was not selected for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the 2025 IPL mega auction, he went unsold after Delhi Capitals released him.
