A 14-year-old boy was taken to the hospital over the weekend after he was robbed and attacked with a machete.
The incident began on Friday at 8:30 p.m. when the teen was shopping in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue. According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the victim was approached by three other teenagers, including one armed with a machete.
Police allege the victim was hit several times with the machete, causing him to fall to the ground. During the attack, the suspects also robbed him of his belongings before they ran from the scene.
When officers got to the scene, they found the 14-year-old boy with a significant hand injury. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Shortly after, police found and arrested three suspects at a restaurant in the 1400 block of St. Matthews Avenue. Three males—aged 13, 14, and 15—have been charged with robbery. None of the charges have been proven in court.
The 13-year-old and the 14-year-old were both detained in custody, while the 15-year-old was released on an undertaking.
The major crimes unit is investigating.

Toronto police said officers were called to the area of Bayview and Steeles avenues around 4:40 a.m. for a stabbing. One man was subsequently transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The suspect fled on foot. There was no immediate suspect description or any word about a possible motive. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them or call Crime Stoppers anonymously.
