Johnny Depp offered 'trust and love' as a director says lead actor of Modigliani
The film, Modigliani – Three Days On The Wing Of Madness, is described as a "72-hour whirlwind" in the life of the bohemian artist, who is played by Italian actor and film producer Riccardo Scamarcio.
Speaking on the red carpet of the movie's UK premiere, Scamarcio told the PA news agency: "It (shooting the film) was incredible because Johnny is … I felt a lot of trust from him and love.
"And this is all you need if you have to play a character of this kind.
"But anyway, if you have to be an actor in a film, from your director you need trust and love, and I felt that very much."
Modigliani was an Italian painter and sculptor during the late half of the 19th century and early 20th century who was known for creating portraits and nudes in a modern style that were seen as controversial for the time period.
Scamarcio told PA: "He was an incredible character. He was an incredible painter, and, (he had) some anarchy, I have to say, and a lot of talent.
"But, you know, he's been recognised too late. What a shame."
The film also stars Adolescence actor Stephen Graham as art dealer Leopold Zborowski, and veteran actor Al Pacino as American collector Maurice Gangnat.
Among the stars who attended the UK premiere was Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and his wife Sally, Sons Of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, and a number of actors from the movie.
Last year, Scamarcio presented Depp with a lifetime achievement award at the Rome Film Festival in recognition of his "extraordinary journey as a performer".
Depp has made a steady return to the spotlight in recent years following the conclusion of a high-profile defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
The 62-year-old has starred in a host of films over the years but gained worldwide stardom for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.
Modigliani – Three Days On The Wing of Madness is in cinemas from 11 July.

Meghan Markle 'burst into tears' after brutal statement from Prince William
Following the breakdown of their parents' marriage and the devastating loss of their mother, Princes William and Harry seemed inseparable, supporting one another through their grief. Yet today, the feuding brothers find themselves embroiled in a bitter rift as they pursue entirely different paths across the Atlantic divide. The catalyst for their fractured relationship emerged after Harry wed Meghan Markle - with the couple finding it difficult to settle into Royal duties. During the Sussexes' explosive Netflix series, Harry and Meghan, the pair targeted William whilst recounting a pivotal moment that Harry claims left him seething and reduced his wife to tears. The controversy erupted when Harry refused to authorise a joint palace statement refuting bullying allegations - a decision he maintains created an irreparable rift between the siblings, reports the Mirror. This development follows claims that Harry and Meghan's recent efforts to "build bridges and move on" have spectacularly misfired, according to a prominent Royal commentator. The couple in their Netflix series (Image: Netflix) Harry and Meghan with Prince William and Kate (Image: PA) Reflecting on footage of the brothers enjoying themselves in an old fire engine alongside newspaper coverage of their ongoing animosity in episode five, Harry revealed in the programme: "I mean, the saddest part of it was this wedge created between me and my brother so that he's now on the institution's side. "And I get, part of that I get. I understand right? That's his inheritance, so to some extent it's already ingrained in him that part of his responsibility is the survivability and the continuation of this institution. "That day, a story came out that part of the reason why Meghan and I were leaving was because William had bullied us out. And once I got in the car after the meeting, I was told about a joint statement that had been put out in my name and my brother's name squashing the story about him bullying us out of the family. "I couldn't believe it. No one had asked me permission to put my name to a statement like that. And I rang M and I told her and she burst into floods of tears because within four hours they were happy to lie to protect my brother and yet for three years, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us." This emerges as King Charles and Harry's top advisers reportedly conducted a clandestine reconciliation meeting in London last month, understood to be the first significant move in a 'rapprochement process' aimed at mending fractured relationships. The Mail on Sunday disclosed that Meredith Maines, the Duke of Sussex's chief communications officer, dramatically jetted in from LA to meet Tobyn Andreae, the King's communications secretary, at the exclusive Royal Over-Seas League club mere yards from Clarence House, the monarch's London base. Prince Harry's leading UK PR strategist, Liam Maguire, was also in attendance. An insider revealed to the publication: "There's a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in year. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about." Although Prince William's representatives were apparently excluded from the surprise meeting, Royal experts have disclosed the behind-the-scenes influence he would have wielded as the monarchy's heir apparent. They suggest that whilst William shows little enthusiasm for mending fences with his alienated sibling, with whom he's allegedly had no contact for years, the discussions would never have taken place without his 'backing and consent'. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Mail Online: "The King would never have made these moves without William's support and understanding. William and Catherine are the future of the monarchy. "He has undoubtedly been furious at the way the Sussexes have behaved and undoubtedly regards Harry's behaviour as treason of a sort. They reportedly have not spoken in over two years.'". Meanwhile, Royal author Phil Dampier remarked: "The King is more anxious to patch things up than William, who I believe will never be close to his brother again." Harry is expected to return to the UK in September for the yearly WellChild ceremonies, presenting a chance for him to reconnect with his father for the first time in 18 months. However, William appears to have no intention of meeting his brother, regardless of the diplomatic efforts. Katie Taylor GWOAT rival splashes $90,000 on bracelet
Katie Taylor's boxing rival Claressa Shields has flashed her new $90,000 watch on social media. Following her heavyweight victory over Lani Daniels, Shields has treated herself to an expensive timepiece. The American, 30, showed off a stunning $90,000 Bvlgari watch, one of only two ever made, calling it her "first big girl purchase". She later wrote: 'I didn't ask for nobody approval! This is a gift to me! I love it! Also it's my money, my hard work." Shields, along with Taylor, is widely regarded as one of the best female boxers of all time. The Michigan native won two gold medals at consecutive Olympic Games (2012 and 2016) before turning professional. And she is now unbeaten in 17 professional bouts and is the only boxer in history, female or male, to hold all four major world titles in boxing, WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO, in three weight classes. It comes as Taylor has officially been ordered to fight Chantelle Cameron by the WBC. The score is currently 1-1 between the pair after Taylor avenged her May 2023 defeat, her only loss as a professional, to Cameron six months later to become a two-weight undisputed world champion. Northampton native Cameron has been calling for a rematch ever since and has accused Taylor and her team of avoiding her. 'Il Capo' is the WBC interim world super-lightweight champion, a belt she has held since last July, and now the WBC have ordered Taylor to fight her. As undisputed champion, Taylor currently holds the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring belts. However, the 2012 Olympic champion's fighting future remains unclear and she may opt to retire following last month's victory over Amanda Serrano, with Cameron also beating Jessica Camara on the same card at Madison Square Garden. Following her win, Taylor took aim at Cameron and insisted the English fighter didn't deserve to face her for a third time. "I think Chantelle has to see if she can sell out a 1,000-seater arena first. I don't think she can sell out any stadium at all," she said. "I think I made her more money than she really deserves, to be quite honest." Cameron has since hit back at those comments, labelling Taylor 'trashy' over making them. She told Sky Sports: "Usually she's quite respectful and she's a massive role model for the younger generation. "To put someone down and discredit another boxer, when you're a huge role model, she didn't really carry herself well in that press conference. "I was quite shocked at her comments. We're trying to grow the sport, instead of talking and behaving like that. "You're just discrediting the sport and it's not really a good image for the next generation coming through." She added: "Women's boxing, it's a hard enough sport without talking about money and purses and who's getting paid what and 'I'm going to give you this payday'. "You don't have to like each other, not at all. "But to make women's boxing grow and get more people following and watching it and also the younger generation to behave in a certain way without being trashy, then we should all be supporting each other. "Again, you don't have to like each other, but you don't have to put others down." Even if Taylor does opt to continue fighting, she could decide to vacate the WBC belt and take on someone else, rather than face Cameron for a third time.
