Shutdown near IKEA on Thane-Belapur Road, Navi Mumbai traffic police announce diversions
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is undertaking the work as part of its ongoing infrastructure development projects.
As part of the works the three lane Belapur bound stretch will be completely shut. Traffic on the three lanes of the Thane bound stretch will however remain open.
To control traffic and prevent large-scale jams during the shutdown, the city traffic police have implemented diversions. For vehicles coming from Thane that are heading to Belapur the stretch between Savita Chemical and Turbhe railway station will be closed off for all vehicles until the work is completed.
Traffic officials have already mapped out the diversion routes. Light vehicles coming from Thane, as per the official announcement, will be routed away from the Fire Brigade signal at Mahape, through Sector 26 of APMC Market and onto Palm Beach Road to head towards their destinations.
For the heavy vehicles coming from Thane side, two different diversion routes have been earmarked. The first route includes taking a left turn from the Fire Brigade Signal at Mahape and traversing the Turbhe MIDC locality. The second route demands the left turn from below the Savita Chemical Bridge and once more directs traffic via Turbhe MIDC.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Tirupati Kakade issued the official directive based on a report filed by the senior police inspector of the Turbhe traffic division. The action falls within the Motor Vehicles Act and applicable state government guidelines.
'The measure is a move to ensure a smooth and lasting improvement of roads. We call upon all drivers to adhere to the diversion boards, cooperate with traffic officials, and schedule travel to avoid being inconvenienced,' said a Navi Mumbai traffic department official.
The traffic department has vowed to ensure a smooth traffic flow and reduce inconvenience to commuters during this much-needed road improvement.

Prayagraj plans dedicated e-rickshaw routes to ease traffic chaos
In an effort to decongest city roads and reduce persistent traffic snarls, especially during peak hours, the traffic department—along with officials from the district administration and the regional transport office (RTO)—is set to introduce designated routes for e-rickshaws within city limits. E-rickshaws on city roads remain a major cause of traffic bottlenecks (Anil Kumar Maurya/HT) Traffic authorities have identified the uncontrolled surge in the number of e-rickshaws as a key contributor to bottlenecks across major city intersections. Compounding the problem is the lack of designated parking spaces, operating zones, or integration of e-rickshaws into the city's formal traffic management system. According to traffic inspector Amit Kumar, unregulated parking and haphazard movement of e-rickshaws are severely disrupting the smooth flow of traffic. 'Every major city crossing, which already witnesses heavy vehicular movement, is cluttered with stationary e-rickshaws waiting for passengers along the roadside. This leads to significant traffic congestion. Unlike earlier, e-rickshaws are now covered under the Motor Vehicles Act. On average, 2,000 challans are issued each month—for wrong parking, signal jumping, road accidents, or rash driving, often involving underage drivers,' he said. Following a directive from district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma, a committee will be formed to examine traffic congestion caused by the rising number of e-rickshaws. The committee will also finalise 8 to 10 dedicated routes for their movement across the city. Additional regional transport officer (administration), Rajeev Chaturvedi, confirmed the rapid growth of e-rickshaws on city roads. 'An estimated 30,000 e-rickshaws are currently operating in the city. Their number is steadily increasing, as they offer a relatively easy source of income,' he said. Currently, there are no designated parking slots for these electric vehicles. The business behind the boom The rising number of e-rickshaws is largely driven by unemployment and the promise of steady income, with minimal regulatory oversight. According to Augustya Shukla, owner of Mahi Enterprises—who has been selling e-rickshaws in Prayagraj for nine years—graduates, students preparing for competitive exams, and the unemployed are increasingly turning to e-rickshaw driving as a livelihood. 'E-rickshaws are available in lead-acid and lithium battery variants, costing between ₹1.40 lakh to ₹1.70 lakh. Private financiers offer loans with down payments as low as ₹20,000–25,000. Drivers earn around ₹800–1,000 per day, translating to monthly earnings of ₹24,000–30,000. After paying EMIs of ₹7,500–8,500 for 24 months, drivers still manage to save around ₹20,000 a month—enough to cover basic expenses,' he explained. Shukla added that the e-rickshaw trade has also become a profitable enterprise for mass operators. 'Some private operators own up to 60–70 e-rickshaws, renting them out at ₹300 per day. A driver making ₹800–1,000 per day pays the rent and still takes home ₹500–700. It's a win-win business model,' he said. The rise of illegal charging hubs The sharp increase in e-rickshaw numbers is also fueled by their low operating costs. However, many are reportedly running on electricity pilfered from the grid. Illegal charging hubs have mushroomed across areas like Katra, Teliyarganj, and other localities, charging ₹50 per vehicle for a five-hour overnight recharge using stolen power.

Fancy number plates set for a turbocharged price hike in Telangana
1 2 3 4 Hyderabad: Soon, motorists will have to cough up a much heftier fee to drive home with a fancy number plate, thanks to the transport dept's proposal to jack up these rates by 200% to 300%. While the most popular '9999' number previously came with a base fare (for auctions) of 50,000, it has now been revised upwards to 1.5 lakh. Similarly, the 'auspicious' number of 6666 will now have a base price of 1 lakh — a 70,000 jump from the earlier 30,000 — while other sought-after numbers such as 1 and 9 will be available for 1 lakh, as against the earlier 50,000. According to road transport officials, these are among over 100 special numbers whose prices have been increased. Incidentally, fancy numbers are a huge revenue generator for the dept as they collectively fetch over Rs 100 crore every year. In fact, 9999 alone earned RTA up to 12 lakh during previous auctions. Officials believe the proposed hike may push this figure up to 20 lakh or more. Biggest IKEA retailer names veteran Juvencio Maeztu CEO as Brodin steps down
By Helen Reid The world's biggest retailer of IKEA furniture said on Wednesday CEO Jesper Brodin was stepping down after eight years, to be succeeded by Spaniard Juvencio Maeztu , the first non-Swede to lead the group. Maeztu takes the top job at Ingka Group as the Swedish retailer grapples with U.S. tariffs, wars and geopolitical tensions that risk disrupting its operations spanning 31 countries from Europe to China, India and the United States. Brodin, CEO since 2017, said his decision to step down was not easy, but that it was the right time to do so. Maeztu is to start in the new role by November 5, with Brodin staying at the company until the end of February to ease the transition. Deputy CEO and chief financial officer since 2018, Maeztu, 57, started at IKEA in 2001 as manager of the Alcorcon store in Madrid, later managing the Wembley store in London, before a six-year stint as CEO of IKEA India. "We've been riding through quite some storms together - pandemic, geopolitical issues, war, etcetera," Brodin, 56, told Reuters. "So in a way I feel proud of the things we have achieved but also super confident that the IKEA house is in good order and we'll be able to take off for the future with Juvencio." Under Brodin, Ingka Group invested heavily to improve online shopping for IKEA, driving the retailer's online sales up. Ingka also set new emissions reduction targets and reported in January that emissions fell by 30.1% from its 2016 baseline. Brodin said the appointment of Maeztu, who grew up in Cadiz and does not speak Swedish, shows IKEA's global culture works. The incoming CEO is setting off on a "listening tour" of its big blue stores around the world, starting in Asia, as he builds his strategy to grow the company which last year reported weaker net profit and revenue after slashing prices. "I am fully determined to make IKEA grow and to really be relevant for many millions more consumers around the world," Maeztu told Reuters. He has said tariffs make it harder for IKEA to keep prices low.
