EastEnders legend needed time off after she was left 'exhausted'

Metro14-05-2025
EastEnders star Michelle Collins has admitted she felt 'exhausted' following a lengthy storyline with her soap character, and needed some time off as a result.
The actress returned to her role as Cindy Beale in 2023 in a massive twist. It was believed that Cindy died during childbirth back in 1998, but she had actually been living undercover.
With that period of her life coming to an end, Cindy was told she could move back to England if she wanted. She chose to do so, moving back into the Beale household with Ian (Adam Woodyatt), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) and Peter (Thomas Law).
What followed next was a long narrative that saw Cindy lie through her teeth practically every day. After we learnt about Cindy's connection to the Knight family, she started an affair with Junior (Micah Balfour), the son of her ex-husband.
The affair was revealed in spectacular fashion on Christmas Day in 2024. The episode ended with Cindy getting hit over the head with a shovel, with Kathy later being confirmed as the culprit.
In February of this year, Cindy left to stay with old friend Gita. In reality, this tied in with Michelle Collins' new theatre show, and it also allowed her to have some much needed down time.
The star recently opened up about this, admitting that she felt a bit 'exhausted with Cindy'.
Speaking during today's episode of This Morning, Michelle said: 'They gave me a bit of time off, you get a bit exhausted. I get a bit exhausted with Cindy, I needed some time off. I love playing her. She's unapologetic, a lawbreaker, bold and you just never know what she's going to do next.
'She's dysfunctional and interesting, but also kind of passionate and vulnerable. All those things are great to play as an actor.'

Cindy returned a few weeks ago and faced quite a lot of angry faces as she got back. She had to confront multiple Walford residents impacted by the Queen Vic explosion in February, which only happened as a result of Cindy pushing Ian in front of a car. More Trending
She also ended up helping Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) through her labour.
Michelle said: 'Even if somebody were to say to Cindy, 'I don't like you' she would think she would be able to change their minds. She also has unconditional love for her kids.
'Granted, she may not be the perfect mum, but she is still their mum and she has fought for her kids a lot over the years.'

Tillie, 22, is well-known for playing Stacey Neville in school drama Waterloo Road. The pair were snapped smiling and strolling together towards a waiting car. Bobby and Tillie reportedly dated previously on and off for a year. During his stint on Strictly Come Dancing in 2023, the star was said to be "besotted" with his former lover. At the time, a source close to the actor said he was hopeful he could rekindle his romance with Tillie. They told The Mirror: 'Bobby was really keen on her, but she decided to call time on the relationship, feeling they weren't compatible. "There was no big row and, as they have always been on/off, Bobby hasn't given up. "He is doing all the running at the moment. "Bobby is messaging Tillie constantly in between rehearsals and has also asked her to the Strictly studio." Huge EastEnders star to QUIT soap after four years 'to look for other opportunities' Last month, it was announced Bobby is leaving his role on EastEnders after four years. He joined the BBC soap in 2022, playing returning character Freddie Slater. Bobby scooped a National Television Award last year for rising star in the role. An EastEnders spokeswoman said: 'We can confirm that Bobby Brazier will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future.' A telly insider revealed: 'Bosses had a meeting with Bobby only recently as they had a plan in mind for a storyline, and it just so happened that Bobby was also thinking that now was the right time to look for other opportunities outside the show. Inside Bobby Brazier's burgeoning TV career Bobby Brazier has risen through the ranks to become a well known face on British TV. As the son of Jade Goody and Jeff Brazier, he has been well-known amongst the public from a young age. Bobby first embarked on a showbiz career when he was just 16-years old when he started modelling. The star made his catwalk debut in 2020 at Milan Fashion Week, but it wasn't long before he had his eyes on a TV career. He shot to prominence in 2022 when he was cast as Freddie Slater in EastEnders. The incredibly acting skills displayed on screen earned him the National Television Award in the 'Rising Star' category. His famous dad was in tears as Bobby accepted the award on stage in front of the likes of Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond. It wasn't long before BBC bosses wanted him to take part in the 21st series of Strictly Come Dancing. He clearly impressed the viewers with his dancing skills as he made the grand final and was a runner-up. Since then, viewers were delighted when he returned to his role in the long-running BBC One soap. 'The timing of the decision worked for both, but his final scenes are not for a while yet. 'The character has had a great run, but the time is now right for Bobby to look for other opportunities, and for EastEnders to wave goodbye to Freddie Slater.' Clair Norris (Bernadette Taylor) and Matthew James Morrison (Felix Baker) recently waved goodbye to Walford. In addition, Molly Rainford, who has played Anna Knight since 2023, is also set to depart. 5 The actor was previously said to be "besotted" with the Waterloo Road star Credit: James Curley
