Four Youths Killed in Truck-Car Collision in Hisar; Bodies Retrieved After Cutting Open Mangled Car.
The impact of the crash squashed the car to a mangled shell, with the victims trapped inside.
Locals came on the scene around 1 am and alerted emergency services. Police and rescue teams had to cut open the vehicle's doors to extract the bodies. The victims were Rammehar Poonia (27), Praveen Bhadu (28), and Ravindra Sharma (24), all from Kirori village, and Raju from Rajli village. Rammehar and Raju were brothers-in-law.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the four were travelling toward Agroha when their vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming truck.
The bodies were taken to Agroha Medical College, where doctors confirmed the deaths. Identification was made through Aadhaar cards recovered from the victims' pockets, and families were informed promptly.
Their relatives said Raju had travelled to Kirori with his sister to attend a family function known as the Kothli ceremony.
The group of four had gone out for a drive when the accident occurred. Only Praveen Bhadu among the victims was unmarried. Raju, married recently and a father to a five-month-old daughter, was the only son in his family. He leaves behind his wife, child, and parents. The tragedy has plunged both villages, Kirori and Rajli, into mourning.
Police authorities, who are investigating the cause of the collision, have not yet confirmed any action against the truck driver. The accident highlights ongoing concerns about late-night driving safety and vehicle speed on rural highways.

Calcutta HC commutes death sentence, says justice must not be 'bloodthirsty'
KOLKATA: Calcutta high court's Jalpaiguri circuit bench has commuted the death sentence of 22-year-old Aftab Alam to life imprisonment without parole for 20 years, ruling that justice must not be "bloodthirsty" and punishment should focus on reform, not revenge. Aftab had been convicted of murdering his maternal uncle Mehtab during a robbery attempt at the victim's Dhupguri home in north Bengal on July 28, 2023. The trial court sentenced him to death, calling his act a "betrayal" against the man who had sheltered him after his father's death. Trial court relied 'more on emotion than facts': Cal HC But Justices Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya and Uday Kumar said in a 47-page ruling issued Aug 1 the trial court relied "more on emotion than facts" and failed to prove that Aftab's conduct met the "rarest of rare" threshold required for capital punishment. "The recent alteration in the names of jails from 'prisons' to 'correctional homes' is for a reason," the bench wrote. "It reflects the transition from the basic bloodthirsty instinct of society to take revenge to a more civilised policy. .. One should hate the offence and not the offender." HC said Aftab had not lived with his uncle for years, having moved to New Delhi before returning to Dhupguri. "The 'position of trust' approach cannot be applied," the judges wrote, adding that the trial judge's assumptions about betrayal lacked evidence. "At the time of the offence, the appellant was long gone from the shelter of his uncle and was no longer under his tutelage." Mehtab was stabbed to death in his sleep while wife Moumita survived the attack. Aftab was joined by five alleged co-accused, all minors. The court said the killing appeared to be "a spontaneous reaction" rather than a premeditated act of vengeance, citing the use of Aftab's Aadhaar card to check into a hotel nearby before the robbery. Rejecting the trial court's claim that Aftab was a "veteran criminal", the bench said his actions showed "unprofessionalism" typical of immature offenders. "Lack of remorse in gestures & postures of the accused at trial cannot be an indicator that he cannot be reformed," the court said.

Act on plea for database of repeat sexual offence complainants: HC to authorities
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the police and other authorities in the Capital to expeditiously decide on a plea seeking the creation of a database of individuals who have filed multiple complaints of sexual offences. A Bench of Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela observed that the petitioner had already submitted a representation to the Delhi police and other authorities concerned. Responding to the petitioner's request for a judicial direction to create and maintain such a database, the court said that the matter falls within the domain of the authorities, adding, 'They know better how policing is to be done.' 'Without expressing any opinion on the merits of the issues raised, the petition is disposed of with the direction to the authorities to take an informed decision on the petitioner's representation with expedition,' the court noted. The petition was filed by Shonee Kapoor, represented by advocate Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh, seeking a directive to the government and the Delhi police to maintain a record at each police district headquarters of complainants who have filed more than one allegation of rape or sexual offences. The plea also called for the mandatory collection of identity proof, preferably Aadhaar, from such complainants. The petition alleged rampant misuse of rape laws by some complainants.
