Parma part ways with manager Pecchia after dismal Serie A run
Feb 17 (Reuters) - Parma have parted ways with manager Fabio Pecchia, the Serie A club said on Monday, after a fourth consecutive defeat kept the promoted side in the relegation zone.
Sunday's 1-0 loss at home to AS Roma extended Parma's winless run to seven games which has seen the club drop to 18th place in the standings, having won just four of their 25 league games.
Pecchia took charge in 2022 with Parma in Serie B, and in his first season the club lost out in the promotion playoffs before winning the second tier championship last season to secure automatic promotion to the Italian top flight.
In October, Parma renewed Pecchia's contract until 2027, but the side's descent into the bottom three has brought a premature end to his time at the club. Parma host Bologna on Sunday.

'Obviously I cannot go into the merits of the explanations I have provided regarding the dynamics of the events, which I believe to be conclusive,' he wrote. 'I reiterate that I have not committed any aggressive or violent acts against anyone, but that I was the target of unjustified insults and provocations by some AS Roma members; nevertheless, I recognize that I did not react in the most appropriate way given my role and experience. 'I have always believed in the values of sport and in the importance of providing young people with positive role models: I am sorry that I have failed in this responsibility and I promise to treasure this unpleasant experience for the future.' In a statement last month, alleged that Zaniolo 'engaged in provocative behaviour' and physically struck two of their players. They later doubled down on the claim and provided details on the alleged altercation, with the club accusing Zaniolo of being 'visibly intoxicated' and urinating on their property. Roma's statement read: 'On the evening of May 26, following the Primavera semi-final match Fiorentina vs AS Roma at Viola Park, Nicolo Zaniolo (Fiorentina first team) unlawfully entered the Roma dressing room area accompanied by an associate, despite lacking accreditation. Witnesses report Zaniolo appeared visibly intoxicated. He urinated in Roma facilities, provoked players, and, without verbal exchange, physically struck Mattia Almaviva and violently pushed Marco Litti against a bench. 'Litti had recently undergone shoulder surgery. Both players required hospitalization: Almaviva received a 10-day recovery prognosis, Litti 21 days. 'AS Roma stands firmly by its youth players and is appalled by the violent and unjustifiable behavior witnessed at Viola Park. 'We trust that the institutions will act decisively to ensure accountability and protect the values of Italian football.' The FIGC - Italy's football federation - launched an investigation, which could see Zaniolo handed a lengthy ban if found guilty of any wrongdoing. Zaniolo, who spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Aston Villa, denied the allegations made against him after Roma's statement. He has now revealed that he has given evidence to federal prosecutors in the case.

The German has been at the Allianz Arena ever since he left Manchester City for just over £50million back in 2020. He's remained a regular but has been unable to iron his out his future in Bavaria which could leave him on the lookout for a new club. Arsenal are among those linked with the winger, who was a big hit during his time in the Premier League. He won several titles and, on a personal level, was named the PFA Young Player of the Year back in 2018. Throughout his time in Manchester Mikel Arteta was Pep Guardiola's No 2 and worked closely with the German. A reunion could now be on the cards as Arsenal look to bolster their forward line with a winger on their radar over the coming months. Sane is also aware of interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, who are both ready to make lucrative offers to tempt him to Istanbul. German outlet Bild claim that Sane is yet to make a final decision on his future despite the fact he is set to become a free agent on July 1. But a move to London is 'appealing' to him and his wife Candice, which could put the Gunners in pole position to sign him. Sane's other options include a move to Saudi Arabia or Serie A champions Napoli but it is understood those are not overly tempting for the player. Bayern bosses are keen to keep hold of their player and have already offered him a new three-year contract, but on reduced terms. Sane rejected the offer as he is unwilling to take a pay-cut which has seen rival clubs circle. Sane has scored over 60 times throughout his time on Bayern's books - hitting double figures every season - and could add another dynamic with pace one of his great assets. He previously scored against Arsenal in his City days. Arsenal's priority this summer is on adding a new No 9 and they've made Benjamin Sesko their preferred target. They want to sign the Slovenian, who has continued his progression at RB Leipzig with the German club often selling their top talent for the right fee.
