Ludhiana: House of drug trafficker demolished in Khanna's Malaud
The Khanna police, along with Malaud Nagar Panchayat, demolished the house of drug trafficker Amrik Singh, a resident of ward number 2, in Malaud on Friday. The accused had been bailed two days ago. The house was illegally constructed without the approval of the Malaud Nagar Panchayat, officials said, adding that the action was taken under the Punjab government's Yudh Nashya Viruddh (anti-drug war) campaign. Nagar panchayat's executive officer Harnarinder Singh Shergill said Amrik Singh, alias Rinku, had violated the Municipal Act by constructing the house without obtaining approval. He added that four notices were issued, and the demolition was carried out with the police assistance.
Superintendent of police (headquarters) Tejvir Singh Hundal said the Punjab government adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs, with strict action being taken against traffickers. He noted that Amrik Singh alias Rinku was facing three NDPS cases and was released from jail just two days ago.
Hundal said, 'The government is fully committed to saving the state's youth. People should report drug-related activities to their nearest police station.'
Payal DSP Hemant Malhotra, Khanna DSP Karmvir Toor and other officials from the civil and police administration were also present.

A woman was arrested after 13.3 kg of hydroponic ganja valued at ₹13.3 crore was seized from her at the international airport here, the DRI said on Tuesday. The seized material was identified as 13.3 kg of hydroponic ganja, it said. The passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is in progress.

Thane police seize mephedrone worth 32 crore on Nashik-thane Highway, two arrested
Thane: The Thane Crime Branch Unit-2, Bhiwandi seized 15.9 kg of Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 31.84 crore in a meticulously planned operation on the Nashik–Thane highway near Ranjanoli, Bhiwandi. Two history sheeters were arrested along with their vehicles and other valuables. Ansari is linked to Bhiwandi crime, while Desai faces multiple cases in Kolhapur, including under the NDPS Act and MCOCA. Ansari is also a wanted accused in a case of NDPS registered with the Byculla police station, and a crime has also been registered against him with the Mumbra and Daighar police stations. "Preliminary investigations suggest the drugs were meant for distribution in Thane and Mumbai. We are probing the supply chain to identify the source and wider network," he said. Further investigation is underway into the origin of the consignment and the BMW linked to Desai, while the Swift Dzire used by Ansari has been confirmed as stolen. ABVP conducts rally against drug abuse in Mysuru
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) conducted a rally in the city to create awareness against drug abuse, on Tuesday. It has urged the Mysuru District Police to take stringent legal action to curb the illegal manufacture, sale, and use of narcotic substances in the city and surrounding areas. Hundreds of ABVP activists gathered near the Gun House circle carrying placards stating 'say no to drugs', and sought the strict implementation of the COTPA Act. In a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, ABVP Secretary H.K. Praveen expressed concern over the recent bust of a large-scale drug manufacturing unit in Mysuru, calling it a serious wake-up call. Mr. Praveen said that synthetic drug production and consumption were spreading from cities to rural areas, trapping thousands of youth and making them addicted to it. At a time when the youth have to be engaged in the task of nation building as envisaged by Swami Vivekananda, they were engaged in drug abuse, which is dissipating their energy and talent, according to ABVP. Citing data from recent police operations, ABVP noted that within just four days, 189 out of 541 individuals tested were found to be drug users, underscoring the extent of the problem among young people. The memorandum also highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse on students, women, and society at large, including academic decline, behavioural issues, accidents, crime, and severe health consequences. The student body demanded strict enforcement of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), enhanced intelligence-gathering, and severe punishment for drug peddlers, manufacturers, and their backers, and pledged to intensify anti-drug awareness under the 'Nasha Mukt Campus' campaign, covering colleges across Karnataka.
