Laad Bazar to Chowmahalla: Hyderabad rolls out red carpet for Miss World contestants
The 400-year-old monument came alive as the beauty queens arrived to a red carpet welcome, accompanied by the beats of Marfa music—a rhythmic, percussion-heavy genre popular in the Old City.
The atmosphere turned celebratory as some of the contestants joined in, dancing joyfully to the music. The group attended a special photo shoot with the historic Charminar serving as a stunning backdrop.
They also waved to the crowd from a specially-erected stage, drawing cheers from onlookers.
As part of a heritage walk through the Old City, the contestants visited Laad Bazar for a curated shopping experience.
They witnessed live demonstrations of traditional bangle-making techniques and expressed admiration for the craftsmanship of the local artisans.
Shopkeepers at Laad Bazar welcomed the Miss World participants with roses and, in a generous gesture, did not accept money for the purchases, official sources said.
They also urged the contestants to speak about the uniqueness of Hyderabad, Charminar, and Laad Bazar in their home countries.
Later, the Miss World participants proceeded to the Nizam-era Chowmahalla Palace, also located in the Old City, where a specially-arranged cultural evening was held in their honour.
The Telangana government made elaborate arrangements—including tight security and traffic management—to ensure the smooth conduct of the visit.
The Miss World 2025 contest began with a glittering ceremony in Hyderabad on May 10 and will continue until May 31.
As part of its broader vision, the Telangana government has drawn up an action plan to leverage the global event to enhance the state's international profile and attract investments.
During their stay, the contestants will tour several key tourist attractions across the state, including heritage sites from the Nizam era and the UNESCO-listed Ramappa temple in Warangal.

It runs between Mettupalayam Railway Station and Udagamandalam Railway Station in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, which is why it is also called the Ooty Toy Train. The train travels at about 9 kilometres per hour, meaning that it takes roughly 5 hours to cover the 46-kilometre distance. This makes it nearly 16 times slower than the fastest trains in the country. The train journey takes you through beautiful hill stations such as Keller, Coonoor, Wellington, Lovedale and Fern Hill. The railway was completed in 1908 and is the only operational rack railway in India today. The train is powered by old-fashioned steam locomotives that keep the old way of travel alive. It is operated by Southern Railway and remains a nostalgic ride for many passengers. In 2005, UNESCO declared the Nilgiri Mountain Railway a World Heritage Site. It was added as an extension to the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. Train Details And Timings The train starts from Mettupalayam railway station, located at the foothills of the Nilgiris and ends at Ooty station, Tamil Nadu. The coaches are painted blue and cream, made mostly of wood, and have large windows so passengers can enjoy the views. There are two types of coaches: First Class with 72 seats and General Category with 100 seats. Due to growing tourist demand, a fourth coach was added in 2016. The train leaves Mettupalayam at 7:10 AM and reaches Ooty by around 12 noon. It returns from Ooty at 2 PM and arrives back by 5:30 PM. Tickets can be booked online through the IRCTC website. I was working with a charity called Beauty With A Purpose and we were constantly traveling to the remotest areas of different parts of the world and that's not a very glamorous job.
