Oblivion remastered update 1.2 with performance fixes released, Bethesda confirms update 1.3 in development

Bethesda has released Update 1.2 for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, rolling out first to Steam 's beta branch. The patch includes critical performance improvements, bug fixes, and expanded gameplay options, as the developer continues to respond to widespread user feedback following the game's March launch. Available now for PC players through Steam Beta, the update addresses several technical issues that have affected game stability across all platforms. Bethesda confirmed the update will be released on consoles and the Microsoft Store in the coming days. 'In Update 1.2, we focused on fixes related to quests, gameplay, and performance,' the studio said in its official patch notes. 'We've also added several damage scaling adjustments to let you better tailor your game experience.' The update introduces a new "Journeyman" difficulty setting, bridging the gap between the existing "Adept" and "Expert" levels. Players can now customize both Player Combat Damage and Enemy Combat Damage, allowing for more control over the game's challenge level. Patch 1.2 also delivers significant performance upgrades, fixing frame rate drops in areas such as Deepscorn Hollow, Skingrad, and Bravil Castle. Open-world stuttering has been reduced, and several GPU-related crashes have been addressed. The patch also improves water rendering, weather effects, and character animations. Live Events On the user interface, the update fixes disappearing map markers, corrects issues with UI scaling at lower resolutions, and resolves keybinding problems on non-QWERTY keyboards. Controller users will also see improvements in spell creation and enchanting menus. Several quest-related bugs have been resolved, including missing NPC animations, crashes during certain missions, and visual glitches tied to specific locations and cutscenes. Oblivion Remastered, which uses Unreal Engine 5, has been one of the year's top-selling games but received criticism for performance instability, especially on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Tech analysts like Digital Foundry described the console experience as 'dire,' citing frame rate drops and memory leaks. Bethesda has confirmed that a future Update 1.3 is in development, with continued emphasis on platform stability and performance. In the meantime, players can access the 1.2 patch by opting into the Steam beta version via the game's properties menu. Economic Times WhatsApp channel )

The Last of Us Part II debuts first-ever chronological mode as Naughty Dog reimagines the story; what else is new?

Naughty Dog has quietly released a free update for The Last of Us Part II Remastered , giving players an entirely new way to experience its acclaimed story. Available now on PlayStation 5 (Patch 2.1.0) and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store (Patch 1.5), the update introduces Chronological Mode , which reorganises the game's famously non-linear narrative into a single continuous timeline. For the first time, Ellie and Abby's intertwined journeys unfold in proper sequence. According to Naughty Dog, this reordering offers a fresh emotional arc and may reveal narrative parallels that were less apparent in the original structure. Live Events However, the studio stressed that this mode is intended as a supplementary experience for returning players, not newcomers. 'The non-linear storytelling was very intentional and core to how we wanted Part II's themes to resonate,' the team explained on the PlayStation Blog. First-time players are still encouraged to start with the original format to appreciate the story as it was designed. Last of Us Part II: What else is in the update? Beyond the new mode, the update includes additional features to mark Naughty Dog's 40th anniversary. Players can unlock special costumes for No Return, the game's roguelike survival mode, dressing Joel as Nathan Drake and Tommy as Sam Drake in a nod to the Uncharted series . There are also new PlayStation trophies tied to completing Chronological Mode, along with various performance improvements and bug fixes. Editorial Content Manager Jonathon Dornbush noted that implementing this seamless chronological experience required extensive collaboration between Naughty Dog and Nixxes, the development partner behind the PC version. HBO finale & what's next for Last of Us The release of this update closely follows the Season 2 finale of The Last of Us on HBO, reigniting fan interest in the story—particularly Abby's arc, which is expected to play a major role in the show's next season. Meanwhile, series creator Neil Druckmann recently announced he'll be stepping back from the show to focus on upcoming projects, including a new title, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Whether you're exploring Seattle again or unlocking every hidden detail, Chronological Mode promises to be a compelling reason to return to one of gaming's most celebrated narratives.

Krafton Delays ‘Subnautica 2' Game Ahead of $250 Million Payout

(Bloomberg) -- South Korean video-game publisher Krafton Inc. is delaying the release of the highly anticipated survival game Subnautica 2, according to people familiar with the company's plans, just months before it was due to pay a $250 million bonus to the development team. Subnautica 2, the second-most-wished-for upcoming game on the PC platform Steam, was originally set to offer early access to players later this year. The schedule changed last week after Krafton pushed out the leadership of its Unknown Worlds Entertainment studio, said the people, who asked to not be identified because they weren't authorized to talk to press. A representative for Krafton didn't respond to a request for comment. You may be interested in The first Subnautica, released in 2018, was a smash indie hit, selling more than 6 million copies. Three years later, Krafton purchased Unknown Worlds at an enterprise value of $500 million and said afterwards that a sequel was in the works. The sequel's delay to 2026 was against the wishes of the studio's former leadership, according to the people. The $250 million bonus was due to kick in if Unknown Worlds hit certain revenue targets by the end of 2025, according to the purchase agreement, which was reviewed by Bloomberg. By delaying Subnautica 2 into next year, the company is unlikely to hit those targets and therefore the employees may not be eligible for the payout, the people said. Unknown Worlds' leadership planned to share the additional money with all of the studio's employees, which number around 100. Staff who were at the company at the time of the acquisition were told they were eligible for bonuses ranging from hundreds of thousands of dollars to seven figures, the people said. Last week, Krafton announced that it had fired Unknown Worlds founders Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire, as well as Chief Executive Officer Ted Gill. It said Striking Distance Studios CEO Steve Papoutsis would take that role, overseeing the studio's overall management and creative direction. Krafton didn't say why it made a leadership change, but said in a press release that 'we owe our players nothing less than the best possible game, as soon as possible.' In a statement on social media several days later, Cleveland wrote that 'the events of this week have been quite a shock' and that Subnautica 2 was 'ready for early access release.' During a company town hall this week, Papoutsis told employees that Krafton didn't believe Subnautica 2 was ready to be released this year and that the delay was to add more content to the game. When asked whether Subnautica 2 was delayed so Krafton could avoid paying the $250 million bonus, Papoutsis said he was not familiar with the specifics of the contract. 'It's a good question, and I would appreciate patience on this particular topic,' Papoutsis said, according to audio of the town hall reviewed by Bloomberg. He added that the specifics of the acquisition were 'beyond my current understanding at the moment.' 'The desire of Krafton is to have the very best version of Subnautica 2 available for its early access,' he said. 'While yes, the software that everybody worked on is in a great spot and it felt like, 'Hey we should launch this,' that wasn't where both parties aligned around.' He added that 'it's never been told to me that we're making this change specifically to impact any earnout or anything like that.' More stories like this are available on
