Perhaps, the word "elite" gets thrown around too loosely these days when talking sports, but New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart used it to describe one of his teammates this week.
Following another Giants practice session, Dart had a positive description for his fellow rookie, Cam Skattebo, who has seemingly had an impressive first training camp so far.
"He's been elite out there," Dart said on 'Up & Adams' following practice on Tuesday.
"I knew coming into it, when you watch the Texas game, he caught the fade against a really good safety against Texas. He kind of was able to shield him off and catch that over his outside shoulder, so that was already super impressive from what I saw."
Skattebo enters a backfield situation in New York where carries are available to those who earn it during tough training camp days. With the Giants living in the post-Saquon era, they don't have a superstar back who will take up league-leading carries when healthy.
The 23-year-old rookie might be a mid-round pick, but he has a real chance to play a big role for the Giants' offense in 2025.

He's my locker buddy, so he has a ton of energy every single day," Dart added.
Skattebo just wrapped up a four-year career in college after playing with two different teams. He started his run with Sacramento State before moving to Arizona State for the 2023 NCAA season.
During his first run at ASU, Skattebo took on 164 carries for 783 yards. He caught 24 passes for 286 yards. The running back totaled 10 touchdowns.
In his second and final season at Arizona State, Skattebo started all 13 games he played. He took on 293 carries to produce 1,711 yards. He scored 21 touchdowns on the ground. In the receiving game, Skattebo caught 45 passes for 605 yards. He added three touchdowns to his total for the season.
The Giants called on the 23-year-old running back with their fourth-round pick. He enters the organization in a strong rookie class, which includes Dart and the other first-rounder, Abdul Carter. Skattebo might have a chance to get more regular-season reps than Dart this year, but they could be a key combo in the future for years to come.

David Peterson continues to be exception to the rule on Mets staff

Try it free The Mets bullpen was worn out for weeks by an inability by most of the starting staff to work deep into games, necessitating multiple moves before the trade deadline. All-Star lefty David Peterson has been the lone exception to that troubling trend lately, posting the Mets' last seven outings of at least six innings pitched over his past nine appearances. The latest came in the Mets' first game after acquiring three key relief arms after Thursday's deadline, a six-inning quality start in a 4-3 loss in 10 innings Friday night against the Giants at Citi Field. The last Mets starter other than Peterson to work at least six innings was Clay Holmes on June 7 against the Rockies nearly eight weeks ago. David Peterson gave the Mets another solid start on Friday night. JASON SZENES/ NY POST 'I think it's a focus for all of us. Everyone is going out there trying to give our best for the team,' Peterson said after the game. 'Baseball's gonna work out the way it does, but I think it's an emphasis for me to try to get as deep as I can, to get through six-plus and hand it off to the revamped and loaded bullpen. 'So it's definitely a huge thing for me to try to get as deep as I can.' Peterson allowed two earned runs in the second inning on an RBI double by Casey Schmitt and an infield out by Jung Hoo Lee, but none over the next four frames until the Giants made it 3-0 against reliever Ryne Stanek in the seventh. New York Mets pitcher David Peterson (23) reacts to giving up two runs during the second inning on Friday night. Robert Sabo for NY Post But Peterson succeeded in keeping the Mets close enough until they were able to mount a comeback with three runs in the seventh and eighth to force extra innings before falling short in the 10th. 'I felt good about it. I wish I would have left the game in a different spot,' said Peterson, whose ERA for the season remained 2.83. 'They had a little bit of room, but our offense was able to come back and tie it up. So I felt good about it, but I think there are some things to go back and work on for the next one.' With 127 innings pitched over his 21 starts, the 29-year-old lefty already has exceeded his previous career best of 121 innings from one year ago. 'Just in terms of being able to add more innings year over year, I think the goal is to make every start and go as deep as I can, and where we end up numbers-wise, we end up,' Peterson said. 'Being able to have a healthy season last year, I'm trying to build off that and be available every five days.'

Pinch-hitter Dominic Smith delivers RBI single in the 10th, lifts Giants to 4-3 win over the Mets

NEW YORK -- Pinch-hitter Dominic Smith hit a tiebreaking RBI single against his former team in the 10th inning leading the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 win over the New York Mets on Friday night. The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Giants, who dealt relievers Tyler Rogers and Camilo Doval, as well as outfielder Mike Yastrzemski, prior to Thursday's trade deadline. The Mets overcame a 3-0 deficit to force extra innings before losing their fourth straight game and falling out of first place in the National League East. New York is a half-game behind Philadelphia. Casey Schmitt and Patrick Bailey each had an RBI double and Jung Hoo Lee added a run-scoring groundout before Pete Alonso began the Mets' comeback with a homer in the seventh — the 249th of his career. Alonso is within three homers of Darryl Strawberry, who holds the franchise record at 252. The Mets tied the game in the eighth when Juan Soto had an RBI single and Alonso lofted a sacrifice fly. But, Ryan Walker (3-4) retired New York in order in the ninth and Smith, who spent the first six seasons of his career with the Mets, singled home automatic runner Willy Adames with one out in the 10th. Randy Rodríguez worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the 10th by striking our Ronny Maurcio to earn his second save. Giants starter Robbie Ray gave up one run in seven innings. Mets starter David Peterson allowed two runs in six innings. Smith's go-ahead single gave him his first pinch-hit RBI of the season and the 24th of his career. Francisco Lindor, who singled before Soto's RBI single, and Alonso had hits in the same game for just the 10th time in 42 games, dating to June 12. The two are batting a combined .191 (62-for-325) in that span.
