'Law & Order': Christopher Meloni explains Mariska Hargitay friendship
"Law & Order: Organized Crime" star Christopher Meloni chats with USA TODAY's Ralphie Aversa about the friendship he has with Mariska Hargitay.
A few detectives will be clocking out after the upcoming "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" season finale.
Octavio Pisano and Juliana Aidén Martinez will not return for Season 27, a person with knowledge of the situation who was unauthorized to speak publicly confirmed to USA TODAY on May 7. The Season 26 finale for "SVU" (Thursdays at 8 p.m. on NBC) is due May 15.
Deadline was first to report the news.
Pisano has been with the show since his 2021 debut as undercover officer Detective Joe Velasco. Martinez's Det. Kate Silva was a new addition this season.
Silva's on-screen debut in 2024 saw her befriending Velasco, and the two went on to join forces with Capt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) to address a hostage situation involving ADA Dominick "Sonny" Carisi (Peter Scanavino).
Martinez also appeared in the "Law & Order" crossover episode alongside Hargitay, Scanavino, Kevin Kane (Det. Terry Bruno), and Reinaldo Faberlle (Lt. Paul Gomez) in April.
In his four seasons, Velasco has busted sex-trafficking rings, helped victims of sex crimes and gotten to the bottom of a revenge-for-hire enterprise on the dark web.
The sprawling 'Law & Order' universe: Everything to know about the long-running franchise
TV's longest-running primetime drama, which began with "Law & Order's" premiere in 1990, has not yet been officially renewed for a 27th season.
Even after more than two decades as Olivia Benson, Hargitay said at the franchise's 25th anniversary celebration in 2024 that she was still "sort of madly in love with the experience of playing this character."
"There's such intimacy in this group of people that only builds over a long period of time," she told USA TODAY. "Such mad respect, but also such love, and everyone has an incredible sense of humor, and there's so much trust and freedom, that it's a magnificent experience."

Gary Busey pleads guilty to criminal charge for unwanted touching
Actor Gary Busey is pleading guilty in a sexual misconduct case in New Jersey. Busey, 81, made a virtual appearance in New Jersey Superior Court Thursday, July 31, and entered a guilty plea to one charge of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, Busey's attorney Blair R. Zwillman confirmed to USA TODAY on Aug. 1. With the plea, Busey has admitted to "touching the buttocks of a woman without her permission," Zwillman said. The case stems from his August 2022 appearance at the Monster-Mania Convention, where several woman accused him of inappropriately touching them. The "Buddy Holly Story" actor initially faced five criminal charges in the case and pleaded not guilty during a March arraignment, court records show. Prosecutors have since dismissed the other charges. The actor was "overcharged" by county prosecutors due to his "celebrity status," Zwillman said, adding that his client should have faced a lower-level charge such as a disorderly persons offense for harassment. USA TODAY has reached out to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office for comment. Busey was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Buddy Holly in 1978's "The Buddy Holly Story." Aside from his film credits, which include "Point Break" and "Lethal Weapon," he's also forayed into reality television. In 2014, he won Season 14 of the U.K. show "Celebrity Big Brother." Busey also competed on Season 21 of "Dancing with the Stars" and in 2011 on "The Apprentice." In 2023, Busey was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run collision in Malibu. According to Entertainment Weekly, the unidentified woman whose car he collided with did not press charges against the actor.

'Sex and the City' spinoff 'And Just Like That' to end with Season 3 just like that
"And Just Like That" is over, just like that. Michael Patrick King – an executive producer of the "Sex and the City" spinoff, which airs on HBO Max – revealed the show will abruptly end at the end of the current season, in a note posted to the show's social media pages Aug. 1. "And just like that... the ongoing storytelling of the 'Sex And The City' universe is coming to an end," King wrote. "While I was writing the last episode of 'And Just Like That...' season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop." He said that he and franchise star Sarah Jessica Parker "held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season." King said, "It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years." 'And Just Like That' Season 3: Date, time, how to watch new episodes The "SATC" revival premiered on HBO Max in late 2021, featuring three out of the four original stars, minus Kim Cattrall's promiscuous Samantha Jones. However, the fan favorite Manhattanite made an offscreen appearance through a text conversation with Parker's lead character, Carrie Bradshaw. In the spinoff, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) were back on the New York City streets and fans' TV screens. 'And Just Like That' finale to end Season 3 The show is set to end with a two-part finale on Aug. 7 and Aug. 14 on HBO Max. Sarah Jessica Parker speaks out on 'AJLT' ending In an Instagram post after the news broke, Parker said a heartfelt goodbye to a character she's loved for nearly 30 years. "Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all. I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her," Parker wrote. "The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all." She echoed King's earlier message, writing,"MPK and I together recognized, as we have in the past, this chapter complete." "AJLT was all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us," Parker said. "I am better for every single day I spent with you." Davis added in her own Instagram post: "I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever." Despite a loyal following of "SATC" fans and new viewers, the show has drawn criticism for its confusing plotlines and character development since Season 1. Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Maroon 5 performed on Today Friday, ahead of their eighth studio album's release Aug. 15. Frontman Adam Levine and lead guitarist James Valentine also discussed the album, titled Love is Like, on the show. "You said, Adam, recently that this album, Love is Like -- this one that's about to come out -- is deeply personal and you're going back to your roots. How so?" co-host Craig Melvin asked Levine. "We came up in a time when like you didn't really have any outside help with writing songs," Levine said. After a long time of collaborative work, this album represented an opportunity "just to come back to, 'Hey, you know, lemme see if we can do this again, and do this just with us and let's see if it still works.'" The album will feature the previously released tracks "All Night," "California" and "Priceless" with Blackpink's Lisa. Other songs include "Hideaway," "Love is Like" with Lil Wayne, "Yes I Did," "I Like It" with Sexyy Red, "Burn Burn Burn," "Jealousy Problems" and "My Love."
