
Gempak Starz Set To Adapt Iconic Malaysian Comic 'Under 18' Into Live Action Movie
If you haven't read the iconic Malaysian comic 'Under 18' when you were younger, then you're probably missing out. Published in 2002, 'Under 18' follows a band of three friends, Axe, Kaio and Yosi, as they navigate the chaos of adolescence through the lens of Malaysian youth culture. The comic series has a cumulative of 30 volumes to date, with a surprise project on the way!
On Sunday (1st June 2025), Gempak Starz announced an exciting project for a live-action adaptation of the iconic 'Under 18' franchise. The news was announced at the Pesta Buku Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur (PBAKL) 2025 during the 'Under 18 x Klepet' launch event. Gempak Starz also revealed the movie will premiere in 2026.
The announcement event was also attended by 'Under 18″'s creator, Zint Lu, who was also hosting a meet-and-greet at the time. Unfortunately, the new project has no exact release date or cast in sight yet. The project correlates with the launch of the 'Under 18 x Klepet' exclusive box, which contains a special prequel to the 'Klepet' movie, in the style of the comic of 'Under 18'.
Netizens have mixed reactions to the announcement, with some commenting that an animation would be a better option than a live-action adaptation. Twitter user, @/djoyboyb commented, 'Don't do this Zint, please. I'd prefer animation. Look at it this way, live action can't be popular internationally, but animations yes'. Netizens also pressed on how castings should be done with more thought, with Twitter user @/YnwaPaan commenting, 'REALLY! I hope they choose the right actors for the casting'

Fans Amused By The Height Difference Of Selangor's Princess Tengku Zatashah & ATEEZ Members
Last weekend, K-pop group ATEEZ (에이티즈) held their first performance in Malaysia, drawing a crowd of fans to their show. One of those fans was the Princess of Selangor, HRH Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. The Selangor royalty wrote in her captions, 'Delighted to have met ATEEZ and seen them perform live: they were total fire.' Tengku Zatashah also thanked the group for performing in Malaysia. She also previously shared several videos of ATEEZ's performance during the night, expressing her excitement at seeing them live in Malaysia. Netizens have reacted to Tengku Zatashah's post and were happy to see her fangirling over the K-pop group. However, the princess' photo with the ATEEZ members also went viral for another adorable reason. As it turns out, many ATINYs (ATEEZ fans) were amused by the stark height difference between Tengku Zatashah and the eight idols. Sure enough, in the group photo, the members appeared to tower over the Princess of Selangor, who confirmed her height as 156cm. Adding to fans' amusement, Tengku Zatashah even stood in between the two tallest members of ATEEZ, Yunho (윤호) and Mingi (민기), who are 186cm and 184cm, respectively. Some fans even quipped that Tengku Zatashah made leader Hongjoong (홍중), the shortest in the group at 172cm, look tall by comparison. Others even said the photo allowed them to imagine their height differences with the idols. Meanwhile, a few fans thanked the royalty for their support for ATEEZ and asked if she could help bring the group back for a solo concert in Malaysia. We're glad that Tengku Zatashah had a great time at the 'K-Pop Masterz 2025' concert, and we also hope she'll have another chance to see the group live in Malaysia. M'sian-Born Actor Zhang Yaodong Spotted Taking Shifts At Hawker Stall In Singapore
Spotting your favourite celebrity in public is like spotting a rare Pokémon in the wild, especially when they're doing some pretty mundane tasks. As most celebrities prefer to keep out of the public spotlight, it's easy to forget that these individuals are just regular people like us. Malaysian-born actor Zhang Yaodong (张耀栋) was spotted yesterday (4th June 2025) at a kopitiam in Singapore, where he looks to be manning a steamed seafood stall. It was revealed by a user on Xiaohongshu that the stall belonged to Zhang Yaodong and the actor was taking an employee's shift who had resigned. Clad in a basic white tee and glasses, the actor looked to be taking orders from customers while standing behind the cash register of the stall located at Tampines Industrial Park Kopitiam. Despite the crowd, the original poster noted that Zhang was polite and praised his actions. Some also brought up his recent scandal, saying that there is nothing better than fixing one's behaviour after committing a mistake. Zhang Yaodong isn't a stranger to the hawker stall business as he has ventured into multiple F&B businesses since his parents used to be hawkers. The actor used to run a catering business, a roast meat stall, as well as a bee noodle store in Kuala Lumpur. Additionally, he opened an Asian fusion restaurant called 'Maru' in Tanjong Pagar in in 2017, but it has since closed down. Almost a year prior to this, Zhang Yaodong was caught up in messy allegations where he impregnated multiple women. The actor has never denied nor confirmed these rumours. The actor has since revealed in November that he has two daughters (as shown above), and deeply regrets not having been there for them earlier in their childhood. #SHOWBIZ: Amir of Ukays victim of Hajj fraud, lodges police report
KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Amir, from the legendary Malaysian pop-rock band UK's, has spoken of his deep disappointment after becoming a victim of alleged fraud by a company that had offered to sponsor his Hajj pilgrimage. Amir, whose full name is Mohd Azmir Muhammad Yusof, 56, expressed his sorrow, saying that after a long wait to fulfil the Hajj, it had ended in sadness. He added that despite all his efforts coming to nothing after being deceived by those involved, he and his wife, Sarimah Ahmad, 51, still accepted the unfortunate turn of events. The renowned singer of 'Di sana Menanti Di Sini Menunggu' was scheduled to depart for the holy land on June 1 with 77 other pilgrims. He has now left the matter entirely to the authorities for investigation. He also noted that the fraud case was already on the authorities' radar after a report was filed by the affected congregation. "I was supposed to fly to Jeddah via Singapore Airlines last Sunday with my wife and other pilgrims after receiving sponsorship from a company," Amir explained. "However, I have not yet departed for the holy land as it became clear that my flight visa had not been approved. "Now, this has become a police case concerning the fraud. I have lodged a police report at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). "So, let the police investigate the case in more detail so we can uncover the truth. "Honestly, I had such high hopes of performing the fifth pillar of Islam after all the preparations had been made," said Amir, visibly emotional when contacted. Previously, Amir had expressed immense gratitude that his long-cherished dream of performing the Hajj with his wife was finally to be fulfilled after securing sponsorship. The singer, who has released six albums featuring 60 songs, had even shed tears of joy when his and his wife's names were included among thousands of pilgrims approved for the holy journey.
