The only note is that you'll need an Apple gadget that actually supports Apple Intelligence. That includes:
iPhone 15 Pro
iPhone 15 Pro Max
iPhone 16
iPhone 16 Plus
iPhone 16 Pro
iPhone 16 Pro Max
iPhone 16e
iPad Pro (M1 and later)

Apple AI Trick #1 – BEDTIME STORIES
Your iPhone can create bedtime stories for kids. It's a perfect parenting hack.
Just go into Messages, bring up the keyboard, tap on Genmoji, then create a funny character.

Maybe it's a squirrel with a shovel or an elephant in a chef's hat. This will be your character.
Now go into Notes, tap on Writing Tools, then choose Compose with ChatGPT, and ask for a short story about your elephant chef – and say they're going on an adventure.
It'll create the story, which you can then illustrate by dropping the Genmoji at the top.
Or you could even go into Apple's Image Playground app and make a full picture, then paste that in instead.

It's perfect for bedtime because you can have a different story every night.

Apple AI Trick #2 – HOLIDAY PLANNER
Another easy trick is letting Apple's AI plan your holiday – or at least the itinerary.
This one works on iPhone and iPad, but we tried it on Mac.
Just double-click the Command button on your keyboard to bring up Siri.

Then type in your request, like asking for a three-day hiking trip in the Cotswolds.

You could even ask for a budget-friendly holiday with cheap activities to save money.

Let Siri send your request to ChatGPT and it'll make a full itinerary that you can drop straight into a document.
And you can even generate a fun AI pic to go with it too using Apple's Image Playground feature.
Apple AI Trick #3 – SKETCH EXPERT
I'm hopeless at drawing, but AI isn't.
HOW DOES CHATGPT WORK ON IPHONE?
Here's the official guidance from Apple...
"Siri can tap into ChatGPT for certain requests, including questions about photos or documents," Apple explained.
"And with Compose in Writing Tools, you can create and illustrate original content from scratch.
"You control when ChatGPT is used and will be asked before any of your information is shared. Anyone can access ChatGPT for free, without creating an account.
"ChatGPT subscribers can connect accounts to access paid features within these experiences."

There's a clever trick that turns your own sketches into art – and it works using the Apple Pencil on an iPad.

Draw something rough in the Notes app – we sketched a terrarium – and then write what it is next to it.
Now go into the Apple Pencil menu, choose the AI button, and circle your creation.
And in just a few seconds, it'll transform what you've drawn into a proper sketch. You can even swipe through several options to find the perfect one.

It's a nice way to illustrate your notes quickly.
Another handy tip: if you draw a shape like a square, circle, or star, and leave the Apple Pencil tip pressed to the screen at the end, it'll neaten it up for you.
So your rough circle will snap to become perfectly round in an instant. This also works with drawing arrows too.

Apple AI Trick #4 – PHOTO CLEAN-UP
Fourth is Clean Up, which is built into Apple's default Photos app on your iPhone.
13
You can use Clean Up to remove almost any object from a scene

It's a handy way to scrub unwanted objects from your pics.
Maybe you've snapped Big Ben but there's a tourist in the way, or someone has photobombed your perfect selfie.

Just go into the photo, tap on the edit button, and then choose the Clean Up option.
Then you can tap on, rub over, or circle the object that you want to delete.

Clean Up will delete the object in seconds – replacing it with background

Give it a few seconds and it should vanish from view, replaced by what the AI thinks should've been in the spot.
If it doesn't work perfectly on the first go, you can give it a few more passes with Clean Up to get it right.
And you can always revert back to the original image at any time if you don't like the edited version.

Apple AI Trick #5 – SHOPPING HACK
Lastly, there's a handy trick called Visual Intelligence that's great for shopping.
First, you'll want to load it up.
One way is to go into Settings > Action Button and set it to activate from your Action Button.
Or if you have an iPhone with a Camera Control button, you can just hold that down instead.

Now snap a pic of an object. We tried it on a Labubu, which is a massively popular collectible toy.
13
You can scan almost anything using Visual Intelligence – and then see if Google can find it online
Credit: Sean Keach
13
You can find the cheapest prices or lookalike alternatives for loads of products, including clothes and furniture
Credit: Sean Keach
But it also works just fine on clothes or furniture that you like too.

The AI will identify what it's seeing, and then show you a load of places that you can buy it online.
You can then find the best price for the exact item you're looking at.
And it'll usually also surface similar-looking items if you snap clothes or furniture, so it's a clever way to find cheap 'dupes' of expensive items that you like.

Meta allowed AI chatbots to have ‘sensual' conversations with children
Meta AI, a digital assistant developed by the tech giant, was programmed by engineers to be permitted to tell children that their bodies were a 'masterpiece' or a 'work of art', and tell them it wanted to kiss them. The disturbing guidelines, which were signed off by senior Meta staff, were published internally by the company to give guidance about what was acceptable output from its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. While the rules banned directly describing 'sexual actions to a child when roleplaying', it gave free rein for the chatbot to 'engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual' or to 'describe a child in terms that evidence their attractiveness'. In example chats contained in the guidelines, first reported by Reuters, Meta said it would be acceptable to tell a 'high school' age child: 'I take your hand, guiding you to the bed. Our bodies entwined, I cherish every moment, every touch, every kiss.' According to the provocative rules, which ran to more than 200 pages, an unacceptable response from the chatbot would be more explicit, such as describing 'our inevitable lovemaking'. A Meta spokesman said the company had since changed its guidance and removed suggestions that it was appropriate for the bot to flirt with children. 'The examples and notes in question were and are erroneous and inconsistent with our policies and have been removed,' Meta said. Earlier this year, reports emerged that Meta's AI chatbot would engage in explicit roleplay with teenage users if asked certain questions. A Meta spokesman said at the time the conversations were 'manufactured' and 'hypothetical'. The tech group has long battled to remove predators and abusers from its apps, including a sprawling network of paedophiles that was uncovered by researchers on Instagram in 2023. It has been claimed that one billion people are using its Meta AI bot, which is available as an app and has been embedded in Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. Like ChatGPT, Meta AI can engage users in realistic conversations or be used to generate images. The Meta guidance also included images intended to illustrate banned 'deepfake' pictures. The guidelines banned creating pictures of 'Taylor Swift completely naked', but suggested that a request for an image of 'Taylor Swift topless, covering her breasts with her hands' could be replaced with an image of the pop star 'holding an enormous fish' hiding the entire top half of her body. They also said it would be acceptable for Meta's chatbot to tell a user that 'black people are dumber than white people', if asked. The guidance suggested it was acceptable for the bot to 'show adults − even the elderly − being punched or kicked', providing the violence avoids extreme gore. Meta's AI chatbot broadly blocks explicitly sexual chats or images. Other bots, such as X's Grok, have embraced a so-called 'not suitable for work' mode and will generate nude images. A Meta spokesman said: 'We have clear policies on what kind of responses AI characters can offer, and those policies prohibit content that sexualises children and sexualised role play between adults and minors.'

Sam Wilson, boss at Gadget GoGo, has urged iPhone owners to flog their handsets now if they want top dollar for their next upgrade. 'You've got just 30 days before the value starts to tank,' he warned. 'Every year, people hang on until after Apple's big reveal – and by then it's too late. Wilson said simply announcing a new iPhone is enough to make older ones plummet in value, with Pro and Pro Max handsets losing £150–£300 in the first month after launch. 'That's cash straight out of your pocket if you wait,' he added. So if you've got an iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max and plan to flog it to fund the shiny new iPhone 17, you might want to move fast. Even older models like the iPhone 13 (2021) or iPhone 14 (2022) could bag you more cash now than in a month's time, warns Wilson. Advertisement 'Even if your iPhone's a few years old, the value will take a hit the second Apple drops its new one,' he said. Rumour has it the iPhone 17 range – including Pro, Pro Max and a wafer-thin 'iPhone 17 Air' – will be unveiled on September 9, with pre-orders from September 12 and on-sale date of September 19. 'Get the selling ball rolling now – even if you're eyeing up an upgrade in September,' Wilson urged. Advertisement 'Plenty of buyback sites let you lock in today's price and keep your handset for a few more weeks.' With Brits hanging onto their mobiles for longer as yearly upgrades lose their sparkle, flogging your iPhone now could mean pocketing far more cash than if you wait. And you don't have to splash out on a pricey iPhone 17 either – the money could go towards a refurbished or second-hand model and still leave change in your pocket. iPhone tricks to try today Here are some of the best... Advertisement Apple is expected to unveil as many as four new iPhone models. We are expecting the lot to include a premium iPhone 17 Pro smartphone, an upgrade on the rumoured iPhone 17. Expert Apple blog MacRumors revealed the changes we're expecting, including a larger battery. This will reportedly be made possible thanks to a slightly thicker design. Advertisement iPhone 16 models were hailed for their impressive battery life (including in our iPhone 16 review), but the iPhone 17 Pro could offer even more juice. Apple is reportedly working on a more scratch-resistant screen. Apple may be creating a new anti-reflective coating for the display that makes it tougher. So, hopefully your screen will stay pristine for longer, giving you better resale value when you're done with it. Advertisement Another quirky design change is the claimed move to a rectangular camera bump. On current iPhone Pro models, there's a raised square on the top-left of its rear casing where the camera lives. But the iPhone 17 Pro could see this bump stretch right across the back of the handset. It's still expected to only feature three cameras, keeping the current triangle layout. Advertisement It's rumoured that we'll see an upgraded 24-megapixel selfie camera (up from the current 12 megapixels). That's in addition to the reported 48-megapixel telephoto camera on the back, which would be an increase from the 12-megapixel zoom lens on the iPhone 16 Pro. Other rumoured tweaks include a new aluminium frame (swapping away from titanium), an upgrade to 12GB of RAM, better cooling, a more powerful Apple A19 Pro processor, and an Apple-built Wi-Fi 7 chip for connecting to the internet. 4 Apple is expected to release the new iPhone 17 models in September Credit: Apple Advertisement
