No water in these Cape Town areas for 10 hours on Thursday
According to officials, the outage is necessary to allow technicians to safely install a pressure reducing valve (PRV) and a water meter on the main supply line to the area.
'This critical maintenance work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers,' said the city, urging residents to prepare in advance.
The upcoming work aligns with the City's proactive approach to ensuring a reliable future water supply. As part of its infrastructure maintenance programme, the city aims to address unaccounted-for water by upgrading and modernising key components of the water system.
'The work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate's proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programme, which ensures the future continuity of water supply,' the city said.
Cape Town officials added that while the water shutdown may cause inconvenience, it is carefully scheduled to minimise household impact.
Residents of Kelderhof Estate are encouraged to store sufficient water before the outage. The city advises that water be stored in clean, sealed containers and that taps be kept closed during the interruption to avoid damage or water loss once the supply is restored.
'Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer,' the city cautioned.
Residents may also notice discoloured or milky water once the supply is back. This is a typical result of trapped air in the pipes and should clear up if left to stand in a glass.
All areas where water maintenance is taking place are considered construction zones and are off-limits to the public. For updates during the shutdown, including the locations of water tankers if deployed, residents can follow @CityofCTAlerts on X (formerly Twitter).

Cool day expected in Gauteng and morning fog
Gauteng will experience a cool day on Tuesday, with light showers possible in some areas and patches of morning fog expected to reduce visibility. Forecaster Mpho Rasimphi said cooler conditions will dominate the province. 'Johannesburg will see a high of 20°C to 21°C, while Pretoria remains slightly warmer,' Rasimphi explained. 'We are looking at a 30% chance of showers in parts of the province, but much of Gauteng will remain dry,' he explained. While parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga are forecast to experience drizzle and fog, Gauteng's conditions will remain relatively stable, with afternoon sunshine breaking through the clouds in some areas. Power outage sparks tension over tree removal in East Town
Residents of East Town have been left without power since August 8, following damage caused by a large tree that has become a point of contention between City Power and City Parks. Each entity is blaming the other for the ongoing issue, while frustrated residents bear the brunt of the situation, said Ward 88 councillor Nicolene Jonker. They do not understand. It's cold. It's winter.' She urged Johannesburg Water, City Power, and City Parks to come together to discuss the tree issue, emphasising the need for collaboration to resolve the problem. A City Power contractor confirmed that the tree had grown so large that its roots had damaged an underground medium voltage cable, leading to the prolonged power outage. Nadim Hassan, a resident of Waterval, praised Jonker for her efforts in addressing the situation, but lamented the challenges faced by residents. 'It's sad that we, as residents, have to come to a situation like this.' He noted that many in the area are irate over the lack of power. In a related incident, while work was being done to address the tree stump, a tractor-loader-backhoe (TLB) attempting to make a U-turn, driving over an island on De Wet Street, and colliding with a motor vehicle coming down the street. Two individuals in the vehicle sustained injuries, but refused medical attention at the scene. Officials from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), City Parks, SCP Security, and City Power were present to manage the situation.
