Man at center of Spivey wrongful death claim wants civil suit halted amid SLED probe
An attorney for Kenneth Williams on Monday filed a motion to stay until the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division offers more information.
Williams and his friend Weldon Boyd — a well-known North Myrtle Beach businessman — killed the 33-year-old Spivey on Sept. 9, 2023 along Camp Swamp Road in Horry County. Within hours of the shootout, authorities said the men had acted in self-defense.

Foley uncovered a trove of evidence after filing her lawsuit last summer including phone calls and dashcam footage showing high-ranking Horry County police officers either coaching Boyd on the scene or telling him they were working in the shadows as the investigation unfolded.

'There is no indication from SLED when their investigation will be concluded, and the possibility of prosecution removed from this defendant,' Williams' attorney Robert E. Lee wrote in the motion. 'While it has been alleged the investigation involves the way the shooting death of Mr. Spivey was investigated, SLED will not confirm or deny officially this defendant is not a subject or target of the investigation.'
A judge's ruling next month could play a critical role in what happens next.
Horry County Circuit Court Judge Alex Hyman will preside over four motions tied to Foley's lawsuit, including whether Boyd and Williams are immune from criminal charges under the state's Protection of Persons and Property Act, commonly referred to as the 'stand your ground' law.
A court roster shows the hearings are set for June 9.

Fire destroys multiple houses on Fripp Island; SLED investigating
State law enforcement officials are investigating a fire that raged across a row of side-by-side two-story houses on the gated community of Fripp Island Saturday, destroying three and damaging others, according to residents and fire officials. When reached at about 4 p.m., Fripp Fire Chief Joshua Horton said The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was investigating the blaze. Any details about the fire, Horton added, would need to come from SLED. A SLED spokesperson was not immediately available for comment. SLED has an Arson Unit, which can be asked by local authorities to investigate what it refers to as 'incendiary' cases. SLED's Lowcountry office said at around 4:45 p.m. that a SLED agent was on the way to the scene. As of 3 p.m. the flames had been extinguished but first responders were still on the scene mopping up and investigating. Christine Denney, who owns a maintenance company and works for Sand Castle Property Management, arrived on the scene at 10:46 a.m. and saw three houses engulfed in flames. 'They are very close together,' Denney told the Beaufort Gazette and Island Packet. 'Two of them had already collapsed by the time I got there.' Denney said the houses were two-stories tall with parking underneath. She was not sure if they were rental units but the houses are located on the way toward the marina. Firefighters, she said, were 'working their tails off' trying to put the fire out. 'It was sad to watch fires burn the three houses,' she said. Among the fire departments on the scene were Fripp, Burton, Lady's Island-St. Helena and Beaufort-Port Royal. The fire impacted multiple properties. Scott Harris, a spokesman for the Lady's Island-St. Helena Fire Department, confirmed with the newspapers at 3 p.m. that three homes were involved at least. The fire was out but firefighters remained on the scene for 'overhaul and investigation.' 'The cause and the extent of damage are still undetermined,' Harris said. As the fire raged, residents of the area reported the news online, sharing photos and video of the houses on Bonito Drive in flames. 'Fripp Island Near The Boathouse. 4 Houses On Fire Right Now,' Aldrena McKinnon reported on Facebook. 'Keep praying.' 'The sirens continue to scream by as Fripp Island has just experienced a tragic event with the loss of 3 Bonito Rd. houses and two more houses being damaged,' Kathy Folds, a real estate agent company owner, said on Facebook. She reported that a house 714 Bonito Drive was damaged and the houses at 716, 718 and 720 were burned down. She added that the house at the address of 722 was on fire but not burned down. Fripp Island is a private, gated community located 20 miles east of Beaufort on the Atlantic coast. 'Out of respect for the families involved, I am going to pause messaging for the weekend,' the 'Fripp Uncensored' Facebook page messaged members at 3:30 p.m. This is a developing story. 'I'm right here — come here, baby,' Charles Williams, 45, told his American Bully puppy as PIX11 News caught their reunion Thursday outside the 44th Precinct stationhouse in the Bronx. The Latest MAGA Conspiracy Theory Just Hilariously Unraveled
A fake story from a Brazilian fugitive accusing former Trump Attorney General Bill Barr of colluding with Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis and Armstrong Williams to indict President Trump swept through MAGA world this summer. How did a lie from a Brazilian woman being actively pursued by the FBI dominate the right's media landscape and turn them against a longtime Trump ally? The Bulwark reports that it originated from Patrícia Lélis, a woman who was indicted last year in a wire fraud case after stealing around $700,000 and using it for her house's down payment and credit card bill, among other things. She fled the country before serving any time and was last seen in Mexico. In Brazil, Lélis is infamous for a false rape accusation against Brazilian pastor and politician Marco Feliciano, which led to her being arrested, with Brazilian law enforcement ultimately releasing a report that claimed she had a mental condition that caused her to lie impulsively. In 2021, she claimed that then-President Jair Bolsonaro's son Eduardo threatened to kill her over text. Police determined she forged the messages and arrested her instead once again. She was kicked out of the Brazilian Workers' Party for being extremely transphobic, and even made posts falsely claiming she was pregnant. Lélis is essentially a professional international charlatan. How did she become the point person for the accusations of treason against Barr? It's all Armstrong Williams's fault. The Black conservative talking head hired Lélis without verifying anything about her background or history, as she claimed to be an immigration lawyer to get the job with Williams. She worked for him for two years, 2021 to 2023, stealing money from his organization in the process. Lélis concocted a story based on her time working for Armstrong, in which she alleges that, while sitting in as a notetaker during meetings, she witnessed Armstrong, Barr, and Willis coordinating Trump's prosecutions, which doesn't make much sense given that Barr was not attorney general while Lélis was working for Armstrong. None of the conservative pundits who took up Lélis's story seemed to care. And neither did Project Veritas, which featured Lélis multiple times as a brave whistleblower whose life was in danger as Barr was trying to silence her. 'One thing that I understood very well is like Bill Barr and Armstrong and all the politicians too, they're very focused like in how they go to stop Trump,' Lélis said in a Project Veritas article. Brazilians tried to warn Project Veritas. Now no one knows where Lélis is. Let this be a lesson to at least google someone before you platform their allegations of plots against the president.
