Dhruv Rathee does a Mark Zuckerberg, rides surfboard minus the beer on Independence Day
For the unaware, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg marked the American Independence Day last year with a video that showed him wakesurfing while wearing a tuxedo and holding the US flag. The billionaire casually sipped a beer as he rode the waves.
Rathee replaced the tuxedo with a traditional Indian kurta-pyjama. The star-spangled banner became the Indian national flag. The beer was omitted completely. And then, like Zuckerberg, he rode the waves.
Zuckerberg's wakesurfing is on its way to becoming something of a 4th of July tradition. This year, too, he wore an inflatable suit on July 4 as he went wakesurfing. Before that in 2021, he rode the surfboard in slippers, holding the US flag, with a scenic view in the background.

Through the caption accompanying the video, Rathee sought to draw attention to the Opposition's 'vote chori' charge against the ruling government.
'Happy Independence Day! We must protect the freedom and democracy that our freedom fighters fought so hard for. Speak up against Vote Chori! Speak up for the Nation! Jai Hind!' he wrote.

The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday hit out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission (ECI) for "manipulating" voter lists, alleging that votes were being stolen in the name of "Special Intensive Revision" (SIR). The Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD Leader Tejashwi Yadav today held a 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Aurangabad district. Addressing the public at the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Aurangabad, the Congress MP said, "SIR means stealing votes from the people of Bihar. Earlier, they used to do it secretly. Now they are doing it openly in front of everyone." He launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP, stating that neither he, nor Tejeshwar Yadav, nor the people of Bihar are afraid of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and the Election Commission. "The people of the election commission say that yes, we will cut voters, and we will not tell you, we will not show you the voter list. What will you do? I will tell you what we will do. We are going to show you the power of the people. We are going to show you the power of Bihar. Modi ji, Amit Shah ji and people of the Election Commission should understand that I am not afraid of you, neither Tejeshwar Yadav nor Bihar. I am saying this as a guarantee, the truth of vote theft. We will put it in front of every citizen of India, in front of their eyes," he later added. But when Anurag Thakur says the same thing that I am saying, it does not ask for an affidavit from him." The Leader of Opposition further claimed that in Maharashtra, the INDI bloc won the Lok Sabha elections, but the BJP swept the Vidhan Sabha elections held four months later. "Wherever new voters came, the BJP won there. Our votes did not decrease. The INDIA alliance got as many votes in the Vidhan Sabha as it had in the Lok Sabha. BJP got all the new voters. 3,00,000 jobs at risk? Experts say THESE sectors likely to get impacted due to Trump tariffs on India
There are concerns among experts that increased tariffs announced by President Donald Trump on Indian imports into the United States, will have a negative impact on jobs in the affected sectors, PTI reported. According RP Yadav, founder and CMD of workforce solutions and HR services provider Genius HRTech, the hiked US tariffs are expected to significantly impact India's employment landscape in industries heavily dependent on the US market for growth and continuity. Sectors such as agriculture, auto components, gems and jewellery, and textiles are likely to be among the worst impacted, as per Yadav. He added that even within these sectors, it is the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) who will bear the brunt. Yadav estimates that between 2,00,000 to 3,00,000 jobs are at immediate risk. Further, the labour-intensive textiles industry alone could potentially lose 1,00,000 jobs, if the tariff regime continues beyond the next six months, he added. He added that in the gem and jewellery sector, including units in Surat and SEEPZ in Mumbai, 'thousands of jobs are at risk due to reduced demand and cost escalation in the US market', he added. However, not all agree. Balasubramanian Anantha Narayanan, Senior VP at TeamLease Services, feels that unlike China, India is largely a domestic consumption driven economy. Thus, any impact from the US tariffs would not impact jobs. 'At this point in time, we aren't seeing any signs of a slowdown or loss of jobs. This also by extension means that our jobs are largely in service of domestic demand too, with the exception of some sectors like ITeS among others,' Narayanan said. He added, 'Our exports to the USA are $87 billion, which is roughly about 2.2 per cent of our overall GDP. Largely pharma, electronics etc. won't be affected for now, which will further limit the export exposure to industries such as textiles, gems and jewellery among others.' Further, Narayanan noted that the full 50 per cent tariff hike comes into effect later this month on August 27, and it is possible that some negotiations could happen before that. He added that positives from the recently announced free trade agreement (FTA) with the UK and other countries, could possibly make way for the redirection of Indian goods, rather than a complete shut down of the exports. 'Even if these US tariffs do come about, we'll definitely figure out a way of redirecting or diversifying our trade to other markets. Therefore, at this point in time, we aren't seeing any signs of a slowdown or loss of jobs. It's an evolving situation and we'll get to know more in due course of time,' he feels. Aditya Mishra, MD and CEO of CIEL HR also feels that while the US tariff scenario is unsettling for Indian exporters, especially those in the auto components, electronics, engineering goods, footwear, gems and jewellery, leather, shrimp, and textiles, widespread layoffs appear unlikely at this stage. 'Companies are already in cost-containment mode, reducing discretionary spending, streamlining production, and freezing hiring. The immediate pressure will be on temporary and contract roles, particularly shop-floor workers, artisans, sales and logistics staff, and some mid-level managers in export-led units. This will have a cascading effect on thousands of MSMEs in the supply chain, which collectively account for a large share of employment,' Mishra felt.

"Said It Before PM Modi": Rahul Gandhi Jabs At BJP Over Caste Census
Sasaram: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday claimed that the Modi government announced a caste census only under pressure and it would neither get a "true" caste census done nor remove the 50 per cent cap on reservations. He made the remarks at the launch of the Voter Adhikar Yatra that started from poll-bound Bihar's Sasaram and saw the participation of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, Vikassheel Insaan Party's Mukesh Sahani. CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, CPI(M)'s Subhashini Ali and CPI's P Sandosh Kumar also joined the launch ceremony of Gandhi's 1,300 km-long yatra. "We had said in Parliament, that we want a caste census and that the wall of 50 per cent cap on reservation should be brought down. I said it before PM Modi. "But the BJP and Narendra Modi, under pressure, announced a caste census but I know that they will not conduct a true caste census and will never bring down the wall of 50 per cent cap on reservations," Gandhi said in his address at the launch event. The Congress and INDIA bloc will get a caste census done in the whole country and remove the 50 per cent cap on reservations, Gandhi said. The Centre announced in April that caste enumeration will be part of the next population census, with the inclusion of caste details for the first time since independence. Opposition parties, including the Congress, have been demanding a nationwide caste census for long. Following the Union government's announcement, the Congress said many questions arise about the government's caste census decision, especially, the intention of the government, and the deadline for conducting the census. The Voter Adhikar Yatra will cover over 20 districts in Bihar to step up the Congress's campaign against what it claims to be "vote chori". It began on Sunday with Tejashwi driving a jeep which had Gandhi, Sahani, Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar and Bhattacharya in it.
