Keshav lashes out at Jagan for his remarks on NDA govt.

The Hindu23-05-2025

Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav has alleged that the previous YSRCP government led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is involved in 'wine (liquor), mine (mining), land, and sand scams,' and the economic destruction caused by it is forcing the NDA government to incur debts.
Responding to the allegations made by Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday that the NDA government was involved in various scams and scandals, Mr. Keshav told the media that 'the former Chief Minister's remarks are aimed at derailing the development of the State and Amaravati, and terrorise industrialists so that they do not invest in the State.'
'Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy is trying to divert the attention of the people from the liquor scam in which he is involved,' Mr. Keshav said on the sidelines of the Mini Mahanadu held in Anantapur.
Mr. Keshav said it was highly objectionable that Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke about deteriorating law and order in the State. 'He should not forget the fact that people of the State got vexed with the poor law and order situation during his term, which led to his debacle and confined his party to 11 Assembly seats,' Mr. Keshav added.
Refuting the allegations of a 'major scam in the NDA government's liquor policy,' the Finance Minister said the government was implementing the policy that had been in vogue for six to seven decades.
'Former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had implemented the same policy,' Mr. Keshav said, and added that the government had not introduced new brands such as the previous YSRCP dispensation.
With regard to the sand policy, he said the government was providing sand free of cost to the consumers. Mr. Keshav said the reverse tendering system brought by Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy had increased the cost of the Polavaram project by three times.
'Development of Visakhapatnam had come to a standstill and industrialists stopped investing in the State during Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy's term. Big companies such as Amar Raja and Jockey left the State. We are now finding it difficult to attract industries because of the policies of the previous government,' Mr. Keshav alleged.
'We are forced to go for debts to pay interest on loans availed and clear bills kept pending by the previous government,' he said.

Govt forms ministerial panel to oversee Puri Rath Yatra arrangements

Bhubaneswar: State govt has formed a high-powered ministerial committee, headed by deputy chief minister Pravati Parida, to supervise the arrangements for the June 27 Rath Yatra in Puri, according to a law department notification released on Friday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The committee comprises four cabinet ministers as members — Prithiviraj Harichandan (law), Mukesh Mahaling (health), Krushna Chandra Mahapatra (housing and urban development) and Bibhuti Bhusan Jena (commerce and transport). Law secretary Manas Ranjan Barik has been appointed as the convener, with Parida serving as the chairperson. "The committee's mandate includes supervising and guiding government-level arrangements for Rath Yatra, which anticipates attendance exceeding 10 lakh devotees. Smooth conduct of rituals, proper crowd management and convenience of devotees will be the focus areas," a senior govt official said. The govt is taking comprehensive measures, including plans to extend invitations to the President, Prime Minister, Union ministers and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states for the annual festival. The celebrations will take place two weeks after the BJP govt in Odisha marks its first anniversary on June 12, an occasion expected to draw prominent BJP members, including PM Narendra Modi. "We will leave nothing to chance to ensure inter-departmental coordination for an incident-free Rath Yatra celebration," the official said. Sources said the committee is likely to visit Puri in a day or two to oversee the preparations and discuss with various stakeholders as well as servitors of the Jagannath Temple.

NCP members' involvement in crimes will be discussed at anniversary event, says Sunil Tatkare

Pune: The dissolution of NCP's entire Beed district unit, the resignation of former Pune city unit chief Deepak Mankar, and the expulsion of Rajendra Hagawane, who was arrested in connection with his daughter-in-law's death, will be on the agenda for discussions when deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar-led party celebrates its 26th anniversary in Pune on June 10. Confirming this, state NCP president Sunil Tatkare on Friday said it is quite unfortunate that some office bearers were found to be involved in criminal activities, and police cases were also registered against them. "We have acted against such members but I feel that a person involved in crimes should not be associated with the party." After the split in 2023, both factions have been organising separate conventions to mark anniversaries in Pune since last year. This time, Ajit Pawar 's camp will hold its event at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, while NCP(SP) headed by Sharad Pawar has chosen Balgandharva Auditorium for its convention's venue. Tatkare said senior leadership has taken cognisance of all criminal cases involving party functionaries, and on June 10, they will reflect on them. "All members will be told not to indulge in any criminal activity, or they will face action even within the party." Amidst speculations of a possible merger of both factions, Tatkare said, "I am categorically saying that we have not received any such proposal. We have a core group within NCP which makes all the important decisions, and there has been no discussion on this topic." He further said his party is not deviating from its stand of being within NDA. "The discussion of joining NDA had been going on since 2014, and finally, the party collectively took a call to be part of the alliance under the leadership of Ajit Pawar. Now, those who support our stand and want to join us, we will welcome them." Earlier this year, NCP had to disband its Beed district unit after it came to light that some of the officer bearers were named in the FIR registered in connection with the Massajog sarpanch murder case. Mankar recently resigned from his post after a case of forgery was registered against him in Pune. The top brass expelled Hagawane from the party after he was named in the FIR related to the death of his daughter-in-law Vaishnavi. Later he was arrested. Home Minister Amit Shah's upcoming Madurai visit sparks speculation of possible NDA expansion in T.N.

Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah's upcoming visit to Madurai on Sunday has stirred speculations over the party's renewed outreach in southern Tamil Nadu and the potential expansion of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the State. According to party sources, Mr. Shah is expected to arrive in Madurai late on Saturday. He will participate in the BJP's State core committee meeting and hold discussions with senior Tamil Nadu BJP leaders the next day. He is also slated to address party office-bearers from the State, district, and mandal levels. Mr. Shah's visit has drawn attention amid ongoing discussions over the NDA's expansion in Tamil Nadu, as his previous visit to the State in April marked the revival of ties between the AIADMK and the BJP. BJP national co-in-charge for Tamil Nadu P. Sudhakar Reddy told The Hindu that Mr. Shah's visit would focus on strengthening the party's organisational machinery. 'He will address office-bearers on a range of subjects, including the achievements of the Modi government in the last 11 years. He will also lay out a roadmap for the party of face the 2026 Assembly elections,' Mr. Reddy said. Seen as a strategic outreach to the southern districts, his Madurai visit aligns with the party's broader efforts to build a stronger presence in the region. The BJP, in association with the Hindu Munnani, is also organising 'Lord Muruga Devotees Conference' later this month in Madurai. Asked about the choice of Madurai to host Mr. Shah, BJP State vice-president Narayanan Thirupathy downplayed any specific political motive. 'The Home Minister had chaired meetings in Chennai and Coimbatore. This time, it is Madurai,' he said. On the question of an NDA expansion, party sources played their cards close to their chest. When asked about whether the BJP is playing any role in mediating the rift between PMK founder S. Ramadoss and party president Anbumani Ramadoss, Mr. Thirupathy said: 'It is entirely their internal matter and there is no need for the BJP to interfere into it,' he added.
