
Police find car that fatally struck Edmonton teen, driver still at large
Tips from the public helped Edmonton police find a vehicle involved in a 2024 fatal hit-and-run in southeast Edmonton, but the suspect is still at large.

Police were called at roughly 4:05 a.m. on May 29, 2024, to help paramedics with a hit-and-run collision near 48 Street and 34 Avenue between a young cyclist and a vehicle. EMS attempted to treat the 13-year-old boy's injuries, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

EPS' major collision investigations section (MCIS) took over the investigation and released footage of a suspect vehicle on July 2, asking the public for assistance in identifying it.

Thanks to tips from the public, EPS were able to locate the vehicle, a 2017 blue Mazda 3, at a vehicle repair shop in Edmonton.
'As our investigation into this fatal hit-and-run collision continues, we are encouraged by the new evidence we have obtained through locating and seizing the suspect Mazda 3,' says Acting Sgt. Chris Deslaurier with MCIS in a Friday news release.
Police are still on the hunt for the owner of the vehicle. They are once again asking anyone with information to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

'We believe there are members of the public who have valuable information that will continue to assist us with our investigative efforts. A 23-year-old man is dead after his car crashed into a light post and caught fire early Saturday morning on Anthony Henday Drive, Edmonton Police Service (EPS) say. Around 1:30 a.m., police responded to reports of a Chevrolet Cruze that had crashed on the southbound portion of Henday Drive near the highway 14 overpass. The car had hit a light post and caught on fire. Police said witnesses to the crash pulled the driver, a 23-year-old man, out of the car and attempted lifesaving measures. He died on scene. Police said they received reports of a suspected second vehicle that had been seen going north in the southbound lanes that they believed may have caused the crash. A 23-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Cavalier was found by Strathcona County RCMP near Sherwood Park Freeway and arrested. She is now facing charges of dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving. EPS say they are still investigating the collision. Anyone with dash camera footage of the crash or events leading up to it are asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 of #377 on a cellphone.

A young man was killed in an overnight crash the Edmonton Police Service said was caused by another driver going the wrong way on the city's ring road. The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the southeast corner of Anthony Henday Drive. Police said they responded to a single-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes near the Highway 14 overpass, where a Chevrolet Cruze reportedly hit a light pole and caught fire. Witnesses to the collision pulled the 23-year-old man driving the car out of the burning vehicle and attempted lifesaving measures, but police said he died on scene. Then, police received reports of a suspect vehicle driving the wrong way on the Henday and was believed to have caused the fatal collision. 4:08 EPS trying to stop traffic fatalities The suspect car, a Chevrolet Cavalier, was intercepted by Strathcona County RCMP going north in the southbound lanes of Anthony Henday Drive, just south of the Sherwood Park Freeway.
