Chad Michael Murray recalls life-threatening illness at age 15: 'I was on my deathbed'

Actor Chad Michael Murray is opening up about a harrowing health crisis he experienced as a teenager, revealing that a two-and-a-half-month hospital stay at age 15 nearly took his life.
During a recent appearance on the Great Company podcast (August 8), the 43-year-old actor shared that his medical emergency began when his intestines twisted unexpectedly. 'I was 15, and my intestines had twisted,' Murray explained. 'I was hospitalized for two and a half months. It was a lot.'
The situation quickly turned life-threatening. Murray suffered internal bleeding, resulting in the loss of 50 percent of his blood. 'I was on my deathbed,' he said, adding that his memories of the ordeal are limited due to being 'in and out of consciousness.' He vividly recalled seeing his father and a priest at his bedside while a nurse administered a life-saving blood transfusion.
Doctors performed multiple surgeries during his hospitalization, including one to stop the internal bleeding and another to clean out coagulated blood around his organs. 'My organs shut down because you have blood all coagulated around them,' Murray said.
While the experience was physically and emotionally traumatic, it also became a turning point in his life. Two nurses who cared for him, Sandy and Alana, played a pivotal role in inspiring his future career. Alana suggested he try modeling, which eventually led to acting. 'I love film and television,' Murray recalled telling her. 'I want to give this gift to other people.'
Upon discharge, Murray had lost over 60 pounds and struggled with his appearance, remembering the shock of seeing his frail reflection for the first time. 'I cried. I couldn't believe that I was looking back at that guy,' he said.
The experience also deepened his faith and strengthened his relationship with his father, who visited him daily despite raising five children alone. 'That's when our relationship really bonded,' Murray reflected.

Chad Michael Murray's kids make red carpet debut with Sarah Roemer at Freakier Friday premiere

Chad Michael Murray and his wife, actress Sarah Roemer, made a rare family appearance on July 22, walking the red carpet with their two eldest children at the Freakier Friday premiere in Los Angeles. The couple, who are typically private about their family life, brought along their son and daughter for their first major public outing. Murray wore black pants, a white shirt, and a light pink jacket. His son, estimated to be around nine years old, wore a baby blue suit with sneakers. Roemer chose a mint green halter gown and held a clutch, while their daughter wore a green tulle dress with floral embroidery that coordinated with her mother's look. The youngest of their three children, born in 2023, did not attend the event. Murray and Roemer, married since 2014, share three children born in 2015, 2017, and 2023. They have largely kept their family life out of the spotlight, opting for privacy while raising their children, including homeschooling. This public outing marks a significant moment for the family, offering a glimpse into their lives while promoting a film in which Murray appears. Despite the attention, the couple has not shared their children's names or faces in media coverage, continuing their approach to maintaining their children's privacy.

Alana 'Honey Boo Boo' Thompson reveals reality TV earnings and financial struggles

Alana Thompson, better known as "Honey Boo Boo," recently spoke out about her reality TV earnings and financial difficulties. Despite her long-running presence on shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Toddlers & Tiaras, and Dancing with the Stars Juniors, Alana revealed in an interview with People that she has never seen the money she earned from her initial TV success. Alana stated, "I have never, ever received the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo money. I don't know what happened to it." She also accused her mother, Mama June Shannon, of taking $35,000 of her earnings from Dancing with the Stars Juniors in 2018. Although June reportedly returned the money, Alana claims she never received an apology. The issue of Alana's earnings has been a major storyline on Mama June: Family Crisis, where the family drama surrounding the money continues to unfold. Alana mentioned she considered suing her mother but hesitated because 'by law, she did what was right,' explaining that 20% of her earnings were placed in a Coogan account—a trust designed to protect minors' earnings. Alana is currently working on a Lifetime film, I Was Honey Boo Boo, which she says has helped her pay for college. Since her sister Pumpkin gained custody in 2022, Pumpkin has set up a Coogan account for her, though Alana has yet to access the funds, preferring to save them for future needs. Fans can watch I Was Honey Boo Boo to learn more about her rise to fame and ongoing journey.
